District 42-Chapter 302: Gungnir part 1
When they saw their comrade getting killed like that, the Jarls that were gathered in that room couldn’t even make a single noise. They couldn’t take that something like that was happening.
The Ridires could absorb that situation in a better way, because they needed to be always prepared on the battlefield, fighting directly against the Frelsi. It was still inconceivable that they could invade the Castle, but their constant fight was something even natural for them.
Nonetheless, the Jarls couldn’t. They were still trying to understand how something like this could ever happen in their lives. The Castle should be the perfect place for anything. People inside there were privileged. It was impossible that those Frelsis could get enough power, men, and influence to invade such a perfect piece of art made by the own Forger himself, in order to create a totally distinct environment from the outside world.
Also, most of those Jarls never saw a single death happening in front of their eyes. Murderings or shootings were nearly inexistent inside the Castle, after all. Most likely, none of them ever needed to hold a firearm or saw one close enough. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
For example, while the Midwest Battle was happening, the only thing that the Castles’ folk could ever think of was to follow with their normal lives. Most of them just knew about that battle because of the news, if not for this they wouldn’t even hear a single shot.
But the situation was different now. Their convictions were all on the ground, being stepped on by a Frelsi woman who was looking coldly at them, and even shooting against them.
Once Camilla saw that they would stay quiet and be obedient, she smiled sarcastically.
"I knew since the start that people like you wouldn’t be a warrior. Never. You all are just shitty men of business who take advantage of those who are weaker than you. I pity for this. If you were real men, at least, you all should be enough to make me sweat a bit in a battle. But, since you just know how to put your dirty hands in the money of taxes and live an easy life, you will need to comply with everything I do. Got it?"
Camilla wasn’t just blabbering there. That talk was completely necessary if she wanted to do things right. Before asking what she really wanted, then she should make them kneel before her, understand that she was the one in control, and get them submissive to her desires.
For this sake, she was trying to diminish each time more their morale and confidence, saying those bitter words and remembering them that they were just a bunch of weaklings that couldn’t do anything to save themselves.
She let it clear that the Ridires and Aesirs out there were succumbing as well, also as the rest of their Castle.
"You see, there is just one last hope for you since all the main cities are destroyed and the Castle is crumbling slowly. You will need to cooperate with me and beg for my mercy if you want to leave this local alive. What do you think about it?"
They remained silent, but with concerned expressions all the time. Soon, someone raised his hand.
"You can talk, Jarl."
"You are a liar. You need us, don’t you? You wouldn’t kill us, I bet! You all are just a bunch of cowar--!" The man stopped to argue after the first shoot. The second, though, got him right on the head, which made him fall dead on the floor. His body convulsed, but it was clear that life no longer was inside his body.
The Jarls continued horrified with that situation. Camilla was killing all those people without any hint of hesitation, as normal as a normal stroll on the beach.
One of the women couldn’t hold on anymore and yelled in despair, crying like a kid. That guy must have been her husband, but not anymore, not now. The others around panicked once hearing her screams and made what they could to shut her.
They feared to trigger the fury of that crazy woman who could kill someone in cold blood.
Camilla, though, seemed to be ok for now and didn’t snap.
"I think I will be going with one of the favors you will need to do for me, ok? I expect a good response that won’t make me kill more of you."
They nodded in agreement. Nobody wanted to try their luck with that cunning and attentive woman.
She looked at their faces, just as if asking something for a kid.
"Ok, now, I need someone who is from the Royal Family. It can be someone of the bloodline right off the bat, but just a maid would be needed to do what I want to do, as long as they were well acquainted with the Royal Family at a certain degree, then it should be enough."
She waited patiently for the response, but one, then two, then three minutes passed and no one seemed to be willing to open their mouths. Camilla raised the pistol once more but got interrupted when someone raised from the ground, placing both hands behind his neck.
"I... I can help you with this. I have a wife and kids waiting for me in my home and I can’t just let my life end here!"
His despair was somewhat sweet for Camilla. She wanted more, but she wasn’t willing to play for too long with them. Just the necessary to make them cooperate was enough.
"Oh, okay. I see that there is someone here with a good sense. So, are you from the bloodline or do you know someone who is?"
The man pointed with his fingers trembling toward all those Jarls.
Quickly, Camilla made him get up, putting her gun at a safe distance, but still aiming at him.
"Good thing! The first favor is done. Now, the second one. Answer quickly, and if the response doesn’t satisfy me... Well, I will need to kill every single Jarl present here, then make you never move your legs again. Understood? Now, tell me, where is Gungnir?"
