District 42-Chapter 137: The escape part 1
Once Casper asked that question, both Alfar and Olaf got quiet and just glanced at each other.
The soldier was expecting that they wouldn’t have much to say about that, so he just sighed.
"Yeah, that’s the real problem here. I mean, it would be difficult to pull through this situation even with the men we have in our disposition before, but now with just the three of us, it will be one hundred times harder than before..." He rubbed his neck, thinking. Those words were more for himself than for his two partners.
He was listing every difficulty they could have during that operation and everything that could be wrong inside his mind, mumbling sometimes. Olaf and Alfar also were pensive about that matter.
If the three of them could reason together, a solution would appear for sure.
"For now, it’s a must for us to forget about fighting them, right?" Olaf spoke, finally.
"Yes. We have just two options that could work here. First, I use the master key to turn off their supplies of Indigo energy, but I don’t have access to the network or the System responsible for the Energy supply of the Third Lab, so it would be very unlike that I could do it."
Alfar was silent until then, but once Casper pointed the first possibility, something came to his mind.
"Well, I could use Deamhan... the Dark elf I mean, to fight with them. I am pretty confident that he is strong enough to pull through it."
The soldier nodded vigorously.
"Right. That was the second possibility. However, it would be just like sacrifice you. When you use your second personality, your body is pushed above its limits; your muscles tear, your bones crack, and your mind gets exhausted. After you finish with them, you would have your entire body destroyed."
Alfar realized what was the point, which left him thinking about what Anton said to him before about his power.
"I see... I would be a decisive trump card, but at some point I would end up as a burden, right?" Casper nodded to him. Even though those words were quite harsh, they weren’t lies.
When he fought Alfar for the first time, he ended up realizing how much of a time bomb the Dark elf could end up being.
"Don’t worry about it too much Alfar..." Olaf consoled him, although he wasn’t sure if those words were the best to be said to him.
Alfar seemed to be having hard times dealing with his own self. Feel worthless just because he couldn’t use his unique power certainly was difficult to be conformed with.
"Anyway, as I said," Olaf continued, "we can’t resort to fighting now, so, then, what we can do? I mean, is it even possible to just run away once we get there?"
Casper thought about that matter deeply. He had supposed that fight wouldn’t be good and was trying to reason how they could get out of there unharmed, or with the less damage possible. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t have too many outs once the elevator stopped and they faced a lot of Ridires in front of it.
"Damn it..." He cursed, without noticing that he said it out loud. He was getting even more apprehensive inside because he didn’t know how much time they had to keep thinking about a plan. They had a deadline there, and although the elevator was very slow, it wouldn’t last forever for them to reach the lower levels.
"We need a practical and accurate plan. One that we three can follow together and without the need for too much coordination. We don’t have time to prepare ourselves, so we will need to do it in one shot..."
Those requirements surely got Casper without many options there.
"For how long are we in this elevator? I lost track of the time when I was snapping with Alfar... Maybe we are still far away? My mind is going 200% faster than normal, so I suppose that we aren’t too much time here... Five minutes? Three? Or maybe is it fifteen already?"
Casper stared the other two in the eyes, and he could see that they were thinking probably the same thing as him.
They were getting too much concerned with the time they had left and couldn’t focus on what really mattered, and that was what delayed them the most in that situation.
"I think we can do this..." Olaf mumbled, stroking his chin.
Even though it was a very low mutter, Alfar and Casper could hear it. They looked at him with anticipation.
"A-ah... Well, I said it out loud, but... I mean, it’s not a genial plan... But what about we tell them that we are coming?"
Both looked to him as if he was crazy, but they had confidence in Olaf’s intellect, so they let him continue.
"Well, the scientists have a grudge against the Ridires. If we can show them that three precious research subjects are going to be executed, most likely they will intervene somehow. I am not sure if the master key can do it, since it’s not connected with the Third Lab’s network, but if we can do it, a mess will start up there and we will be able to run away in the middle of the ruckus."
When Casper heard Olaf’s words, he remembered immediately about what he did before, when he was trying to infiltrate the Third Lab.
If things worked out just as well as they were from the first time, then they could do it.
Casper patted him on the shoulder, smiling.
"That’s it, man. You did it. That’s what we will do, and we won’t need the Master key for this, since I have... this with me." Casper pulled out a smartphone from his pocket.
"If I can somehow use this to contact someone I know, we will economize time."
They agreed, not questioning the soldier about that and just letting him do what he needed to do.
Casper typed in the cellphone the number of Amelia, which he already had saved there. It took some rings until she finally answered the call.
"Hello? Why are you calling? Do the prisoners could get out?" She inquired him, with a worried and anxious voice.
Casper was somewhat relieved that she was ok, as it seemed. He didn’t think about that during the frenzy inside Halden, but the lives of the nurses were in danger there as well. He didn’t know how far the Ridires were planning to go, and since Amelia was some sort of enemy of Catrina, most likely they would take advantage of that situation to kill her "unwillingly".
"Don’t worry about it. Most of the prisoners are okay. And don’t come at me with such a fake question, I know you are more worried about your own goals that this plan will help to achieve." She snorted at that affirmation, and that made the soldier even more sure that she was just being selfish.
"Ok, ok, I’ll admit it for now, but it doesn’t matter, anyway. Why are you calling me, then?"
Casper this time got more serious and spoke as straightforwardly as he could to economize his time.
"I know that you have plenty of contacts among the personnel from the Third Lab. We need to make the scientists start a fuss against the Ridires in front of Halden’s elevator. We can’t get into a fight with these guys, and our only option is to run away. It will be easier if they are busy and disorganized at this time, got it?"
Amelia turned off the call without responding, and the soldier prayed for her to have done this just because she was in a rush to try to help them.
After that call, Casper turned to the other two, specifically Alfar.
"You said you were a mechanic, right?"
"That was a lie."
The White warrior stuttered for a while, surprised, but finding that it was just obvious.
"Well, that’s fair. Never mind, then. I will do it by myself." He started to search for some part of the elevator where he could interact and affect the hydraulic system of that thing.
"We need to make this elevator go as low as possible to be able to get there in time... I don’t know how many minutes Amelia will take to make it happen, so we need to buy each second as possible."
Olaf got beside Casper.
"Differently from Alfar, I know a little bit about mechanics and electrical system, so I think we can work together on it... Maybe..."
After some while, those two could do it. The elevator indeed started to go slowlier. All they needed to do was to delay the flow of electrical energy through the elevator, weakening the hydraulic system.
"Ok, now, it’s just a matter of being patient and root for Amelia to do her part within the time we were able to buy."
