District 42-Chapter 111: The chase part 1
Alfar received the orders from Casper just a while ago. He didn’t have any idea of what was going on yet, and he probably would not know so soon.
His stress was growing each time when Ragnar invaded his mind and transmitted another idiotic order. He was on the verge to snap. Although he admired Casper for what he had done until that point, he wasn’t the type to cling to someone and just accept anything they did.
A bit after he began to run through that place with the prisoners, his mind got filled with thoughts and a conclusion suddenly came:
"And if Casper ran out of luck? These desperate decisions, the lack of information for us, the need to do everything alone and let the others blinded... That’s not something normal. He never was the type to communicate every single part of his plans for me, Olaf, or even Anton. But, anyway, this time is quite different from before..." The next part made his heart throb slightly, and he questioned himself if it was the right decision to follow up the White warrior. "And if Casper committed a mistake, and we are just running everywhere because he can’t face it?"
If that was the case, Alfar could not stay for a minute more with Casper. That guy wouldn’t make him pay for his mistakes, and he would not let him kill for his own benefit hundreds of prisoners.
Alfar never said that he was on Casper’s side, he was on the side of all those desperate people who needed more peace in their lives, who deserved to be treated like humans.
"Like humans... Yeah, that’s my main ideal... And Casper isn’t doing it now. We are acting all blindfolded, just following his orders, not like comrades, but tools."
The Dark elf was saying the usual malicious things inside his mind, however, this time the prisoner was paying more attention to his voice. For him, some things could be... even true.
Maybe the Dark elf was right... The White warrior was selfish, opportunist, frivolous... and they all would die just for him to be free in the final.
"Casper said before, didn’t he?" Said the voice. "He would not bring everyone with him. Or did you forget it?" At this time, Alfar stopped to run.
The other prisoners from his group stopped as well. The soldier had said for them to keep going forward in direction of the entrance but didn’t say anything afterward.
He probably was in Ragnar’s group, on the east side.
"I don’t know what’s his real intentions at all... We, from the north group, are totally unaware of what is happening there..."
He clicked his tongue, his dead eyes gaining a hint of rage inside of them.
"Hey, you guys!" The prisoners, who had already ceased their moves looked towards Alfar. "I don’t know what Casper is doing there... but if something went wrong, if he let the power control him and do idiot things, we will retaliate and do it ourselves... We are free from the masks after all. We don’t need him anymore, either way."
Those people glanced at each other. They did not know how to deal with that situation. Alfar was basically announcing a riot.
"Trust in me. If the White warrior cannot get you out of here, then I will." He began to walk again, and after some time thinking about that matter, not a single prisoner wanted to stay behind.
"Your influence is decreasing, Casper. And I will take advantage of it if needed. What will you do to change my mind?"
...
Casper was still jogging with all those prisoners following him from behind. His mind was in a race, and he used all the knowledge he had gathered while mapping that place to get better locations.
It was difficult to lead a group so huge as his in a place like Halden. The corridors were wide, and they could easily make a line of 8 people there. However, the problem wasn’t in the size of the corridors.
"Split up!!" He shouted.
The line of prisoners got all messy at the time when he ordered it. Some of them could be faster than others and spread to other corridors, hiding there. However, some could not, and it was what decided the course of their lives.
All the people who couldn’t split the group in time got a bullet inside their brains and chest. Those Ridires were strangely accurate in their shots, which Casper interpreted to be a lot of practice together with some support device to help them to get to that point.
In one go, at least 5 of the 128 people he was leading got killed in that sudden attack.
In the previous times when it happened, they got lucky to just lost in total 8 people.
The prisoners were not professionals. There was no way for them to get used so soon with quick orders and these types of complicated and rapid maneuvers in group. They were just Frelsi and Jarls who did something wrong, not soldiers (warriors). No one could blame them for that.
However, the more they left the place they had settled down, more skilled Ridires like those appeared and fought with their lives to stop them to keep going forward. Those are real warriors, but the most annoying to fight with.
When Casper could make sure that everyone could run away from the first attack made by the Ridires, with exceptions for those 5, he sighed in frustration.
He was looking to the corridor they just left, peeking at the ten Ridires guarding that place. He was not sure, but those guys weren’t from Halden. They were in Freygar’s group. And what was concerning Casper in this matter was the fact that they weren’t just walking around and found by chance the group of prisoners, they were waiting with their guns raised towards them.
"The person who is betraying us can deliver messages really fast, or have another way to talk with the Ridires. He is also well acquainted with our location... I don’t know if it’s the same with the other groups, but I would bet that they are also having some encounters with these Ridires."
Just when he was finishing his reasoning, a Ridire from that troop fired against him. The bullet nearly touched his only eye that was showing up, and Casper pulled his body as quick as possible to avoid it.
"Ok, be calm. You need to counterattack now..." He murmured to himself.
Casper was who started, pulling a pistol from his waist and firing against them in return. Obviously, those blue shield barriers were already set in front of them.
Casper stopped to fire, and just waited. That reaction was a standard for the Ridires and he was waiting for that. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
He counted until ten, then heard footsteps, followed by a tinkle on the floor.
Advance while throwing either a flashbang or an explosive in strategic spots, that was another standard.
"Close your eyes and retrieve!" He shouted, confident that the prisoners would obey him and react immediately.
This time, it was a flashbang.
"Now! Fire!" He shouted again, and a bunch of inmates reinforced his order, screaming the same thing.
After this, the Ridires were got perfectly. The improvised guns didn’t do a good job, and just some of them could be knocked out. Besides, bullets with electric damage weren’t too effective against the Ridire’s uniforms.
Those warriors could retrieve, hiding in another corridor. The fire ceased, and after this, all the prisoners got out of the corridors they were in and ran away.
After the few encounters they had, Casper would not afford more prisoners to die, so he settled some protocols to be followed when facing an enemy.
"That’s it! Well done! Let’s keep going forward towards the north!" Casper turned to Ragnar this time signaling to him.
The man was dragging his feet while jogging, but the White warrior, unfortunately, could not let him take it easy. He needed the reports from the other groups constantly to know what was happening. Ragnar was so worn out that he needed to stop jogging to concentrate sometimes.
"Ok... well... there is another group in battle... now... But they are following the protocols... as well."
The soldier made the telepath communicate with the other leaders to guide their groups to do these protocols he stipulated. This way, he could be assured that the number of casualties would be decreased.
Casper nodded, feeling bad for pushing him so much and tapping him on the shoulder. Ragnar didn’t seem to like those consolations that much and just ignored him.
"Damn it... I am losing the trust that these people had in me. The other groups and important members are starting to suspect my actions..." It was painful for Casper to see all the influence and respect that he built through those days was being destroyed so easily, but that was the sacrifice he needed to do if he was willing to achieve his goals.
"I can’t let myself down now. The chase is still ongoing..."
