Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 131. Lead by example
Chapter 131: 131. Lead by example
Neither Hua Jin nor anyone else expected that the matter of beef tendon would allow the shopkeeper to think so far ahead, inadvertently helping a shy little girl gradually become more cheerful.
However, Hua Jin was unaware of this and received beef tendon bought by the shopkeeper for several consecutive days. The price was much higher than beef, and the beef tendon divided over four days was only a little more than two pounds.
Hua Jin is not short of silver right now and can afford the beef tendon; however, despite finding some methods in the space to handle the beef tendon, she still felt uncertain in her heart, unsure if these would ultimately result in usable beef tendon.
Hua Jin’s father’s surprised gaze caused the process of obtaining the beef tendon to replay in her mind.
"Jin’er, where did you get this?" Hua Chengtian couldn’t help but ask.
When she took it out, Hua Jin anticipated that her father would ask eventually, but she was already prepared for it.
"Dad, don’t worry about where it came from; it was obtained legitimately. Let’s quickly process the beef tendon, or it can only be eaten in our stomachs."
In the space, time stands still, so it’s fine, but right now, even though the weather isn’t very hot, it can’t be left too long.
The item is so rare that her father surely wouldn’t dare to delay and immediately went to handle it.
The method had already been searched for and written on a piece of paper, which was directly handed to her father; the rest was up to him.
She’s still a child and tends to sleep a lot. If her stomach wasn’t too hungry, she would have wanted to lie down on the bed for a good sleep upon coming home. Even the puppy was entrusted to her grandfather, who loves hunting dogs and would surely take good care of it.
As for whether her father could recognize all the words, Hua Jin was not worried at all; there were two literate persons at home, so recognizing words wasn’t a problem.
Sure enough, as soon as Hua Jin finished speaking, Hua Chengtian, who took the paper, forgot all his doubts, wanting to process the beef tendon quickly. He eagerly looked at the paper under the lone lamp in the hall, while also pulling his eldest son, who was bringing gifts, wanting to return to his room.
Hua Jin’s eyes curved with joy, knowing that this would happen.
Successfully diverting her father’s attention, Hua Jin nestled beside her grandmother and mother, starting to fulfill her role as the family’s little sweetheart. She helped her grandmother and mother try on the gifts she had chosen, her sweet and soft voice making both women grinning from ear to ear.
After all, she was tired; she yawned repeatedly after a while with the two elders. Feeling sorry, her grandmother and Qishi hurriedly took Hua Jin back to the room, even preparing washing water for her.
While Hua Jin was sleeping soundly, Hua Chengtian was diligently handling the beef tendon. Luckily, the old man helped as they followed the daughter’s instructions and added some of their ideas, starting the preparation.
After several processes, removing fat, shredding, repeatedly washing, and then drying in the kitchen, this process took a long time. The heat from the stove was used for drying.
Fortunately, the quantity wasn’t much; if it had been more, the stove space wouldn’t have been enough.
Drying required careful attention and took a long time. Of course, the two couldn’t spend all the time on it, so the old man went to rest, while Hua Chengtian stayed up the whole night until it was dry. After finishing the last step, his sons had already gotten up, and he was exhausted, simply washing up before falling asleep.
He slept until the afternoon, estimating that he wouldn’t have woken up if he hadn’t been worried about the beef tendon.
When he got up, Hua Chengtian washed his face to wake up. It was then that Qishi, who was checking if the children’s father was awake, saw this scene and was overjoyed.
"Honey, you’re awake and must be hungry. Get up quickly; I’ll heat the food for you." As she spoke, Qishi handed a bowl of water to Hua Chengtian and placed clean clothes on the bed, the oily ones from yesterday already washed.
"Hurry and get up, the food is almost ready." If she hadn’t worried about her husband not being sleepy at night if he slept more, she wouldn’t have gone back and forth so many times. Otherwise, she planned to wake him up even if he wouldn’t get up. With that said, she hurried back to the kitchen.
"Chengtian is awake," seeing the daughter-in-law rushing, the old woman knew her son was awake.
"Yes, Mother, I’m going to heat up his food."
"Go ahead," the old woman waved, then enthusiastically sat in the courtyard, watching the granddaughter interact with a few dogs, enticing them with treats.
As for the chores, resting for a while didn’t matter; nothing was more important than the granddaughter. The old woman cherished her dearly, as they hadn’t seen each other for so many days. Just watching her made her happy.
Knowing her father was awake, Hua Jin became more energetic, tossing the remaining jerky to the puppies, then turning to wait for her father to come out.
The jerky was chicken breast meat she got from her space, and after getting up, her mother spent some time making it into chicken jerky. If she hadn’t been worried about her mother and grandmother calling her extravagant, Hua Jin wanted to make some beef jerky too. But she could do that in her space; making jerky wasn’t complicated, and after watching her mother do it once, Hua Jin was very confident.
In fact, after breakfast, she had checked the beef tendon her father and grandfather prepared. It really seemed authentic, though she didn’t dare to touch it.
Thinking that her father spent a whole night making it, she’d wait until he came out.
Hua Chengtian was truly hungry since early morning, but he was really too tired.
After coming out and greeting his mother, giving his daughter a doting smile, he hurried to the kitchen for food.
Once his belly was full, his mind and body felt entirely comfortable. Without sparing any extra moment, he quickly went to the eaves.
The prepared beef tendon was hanging under the eaves to dry. It hadn’t seen sunlight and had been drying for nearly a day. Even if there was a little moisture, it was almost dry.
He couldn’t wait to try it.
Likewise, Hua the old man was also impatient, but seeing that his son was perpetually sleeping, his impatience drove him out to chat with a few old friends.
There wasn’t much work in the field, so when they had nothing to do, these old folks would relax under the old locust tree in the village.
As soon as her father moved and stood under the eaves, Hua Jin scampered over, followed by a few little tails, circling at Hua Jin’s feet.
"Dad, you’re amazing! You really made it!" She started with a rainbow of compliments, her adoring gaze delighting Hua Chengtian completely.
No words could bring more joy to Hua Chengtian than his daughter’s admiring gaze.
"It’s alright!" As a father, he had to set an example, no matter how pleased he felt; he had to be modest. But he couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear.
That smile was so broad even the old woman sitting in the yard couldn’t stand to look at it.
"It’s really amazing," Hua Jin sincerely nodded.
Factually, she did find it quite incredible and sincerely praised him.
In such a simple environment, with no specialized equipment, her father managed to process the beef tendon. It looked very similar to the beef tendon in her space, which was indeed impressive.
