Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 120. Unexpected Appearance
Chapter 120: 120. Unexpected Appearance
At the thought of Silver, the skinny man with a monkey face instantly felt less cold. He was still waiting to go to the brothel to see Little Taohua, and it wouldn’t do without Silver.
Having now enjoyed all the best of food and drink, it was hard for him to return to the days when he barely had enough to eat.
Thinking about the big profit he would make after the delivery, the monkey-faced man immediately kept his mouth shut.
Forget about being a bit cold, it wasn’t unbearable. He tucked himself into a dark corner.
Seeing this, the tall man tightened the clothes around him and leaned against the wall, closing his eyes.
The lights in the inn were already out, and without surprises, the father-daughter duo inside must have already slept, so there was no need to keep watch.
...
Jin’er felt like she had just fallen asleep when her father called her awake.
"Jin’er, get up... we should be on our way." Hua Chengtian called from outside, sighing inwardly at how fast children grew. It wasn’t appropriate for him, as a father, to enter his daughter’s room at will anymore.
"Dad, I’m awake, getting up now."
With difficulty, Jin’er opened her sleepy eyes, sat up dazedly for a moment on the bed, then quickly picked up her clothes and put them on.
The night outside was still pitch black as Jin’er dressed and asked, "Dad, what time is it now?"
Hearing his daughter’s voice, Hua Chengtian started to wash up, wiped the water off his face, glanced at the inner room and said, "It’s almost the hour of the rabbit (5-7 am)."
No wonder dad called her, time passed too quickly.
Once dressed, Jin’er’s sleepiness dissipated. She quickly stepped out of the inner room, just as her father was replacing the wash water, and started to wash up.
Having washed and applying some cream on her face, she eagerly went to check on the five new little members in the basket, gave them a bit of water, and pulled out a bun to soak in warm water to feed the little ones.
The father and daughter didn’t have much to pack, everything was ready. Other than what they carried openly, the rest was already in the space.
Then it was time to check out. Surprisingly, both the shopkeeper and the staff were up early; by the time the father and daughter came down, the staff were already tidying up the main hall, and the shopkeeper was calculating something at the counter.
Seeing them come downstairs, the shopkeeper offered a standard welcoming smile.
"You two are leaving now?"
Hua Chengtian nodded, "Yes, please calculate the bill."
"Alright." Then came the sound of paper flipping and the abacus clattering.
"Three days and two nights of stay, plus meals account for... along with ten pounds of beef, totaling three taels and seven qian of Silver, with a deposit of two taels, the guest only needs to pay an additional one tael and seven qian."
The shopkeeper reported these figures with a smile, and then habitually asked, "We’ve got breakfast prepared here, would the guest like some?"
Although breakfast didn’t earn much copper coin, no businessman would mind making a bit more.
Upon hearing this, Jin’er quickly looked at her dad, Hua Chengtian caught on instantly.
"What is on offer?"
The shopkeeper’s smile deepened a bit more than before, "Breakfast is simple, steamed buns, stuffed buns, porridge, minced meat porridge, polished rice porridge, steamed eggs, boiled eggs, and some small dishes, what would the guest like?"
Before the man in front could speak, the shopkeeper saw the little girl next to him pull out a foot-high clay jar from her basket.
"Please help me fill the jar with minced meat porridge," Jin’er, who was quite looking forward to the minced meat porridge since the inn’s food was quite good, quickly spoke up before her father might economize by opting for plain porridge.
The shopkeeper had a good impression of the sweet-smiling little girl, returned a smile, and then looked at the man beside her.
"Add two more bowls of minced meat porridge, twenty meat buns, twenty steamed buns, four eggs, and two portions of vegetable dishes."
"Alright, please wait a moment," then waved and ordered the nearest staffer, and the abacus clattered again.
With a smile, the shopkeeper said, "Packed food comes to one qian and twelve copper coins, making a total of three taels eight qian and twelve copper coins, I’ll wave off the small change as a gesture of goodwill, don’t forget to patronize us next time you need anything!"
Having added over a hundred more copper coins, Hua Chengtian, well-trained by having a daughter who loved to spend, remained calm, nodding without further comments and handing over the Silver to settle the bill for food and lodging.
Satisfied with the guest’s prompt payment, the shopkeeper was pleased, preferring clients like that.
Some people could afford to stay at an inn but quibbled over a few coins, a real headache.
In his delight, he instructed the staff to add two more steamed buns.
The father and daughter were planning to leave after paying the room bill, but since breakfast was available they weren’t in a rush. After eating and collecting their packed goods, they cheerfully left the inn, leading the already fed Big Yellow out.
By then, the sky had begun to brighten a bit, with shadows moving on the street, and vendors started their busy day.
Hua Chengtian drove the ox cart slowly; although it was getting lighter the visibility was still low, plus the moving shadows on the street deterred fast driving, as one could accidentally hit someone and it wouldn’t be worth the loss.
The inn they stayed at was some distance from the city gate, but it was familiar, and close to the money exchange too.
After a quarter of an hour, they had only covered half the distance, yet the sky was a tad brighter, and visibility cleared up a bit, allowing Hua Chengtian to slightly increase the speed, though only a little.
The rhythmic swaying of the ox cart gently lulled Jin’er back to drowsiness, her eyes half-closed.
Upon calling out and hearing the sleepy response from inside the cart, Hua Chengtian knew his daughter was dozing off, just as he intended to slow the cart down, a shadow suddenly appeared ahead.
Caught off guard, Big Yellow veered sharply to one side, and with the speed, the cart also swung violently due to inertia, tossing Hua Chengtian off the cart directly, but he kept a firm grasp on the reins.
The fall left Hua Chengtian momentarily stunned, feeling pain in his body, as if his internal organs had been rearranged, stirring uncomfortably.
Inside the cart, Jin’er, caught off guard by the jolt, slammed into the side of the cart, her shoulder stinging with pain, but instinctively protected her head at the moment she sensed danger, abruptly ridding her of any sleepiness. Luckily, it was just a single jolt, and the cart halted afterward.
"Jin’er, are you okay?" As Hua Chengtian snapped out of his daze, he rushed back to the ox cart. freeweɓnøvel.com
"Dad, I’m fine, don’t worry," hearing the urgency in her father’s voice from outside, Jin’er, after rubbing her shoulder, felt much better and stepped out.
After a careful look over his daughter, seeing that she indeed appeared well, Hua Chengtian breathed a sigh of relief.
"Are you really alright?" he asked, still concerned.
"I’m fine," Jin’er nodded.
With a closer examination, Hua Chengtian felt truly reassured and then a surge of anger rose in him as he jumped down from the ox cart, squinting at the figure clutching a leg and crying out nearby.
This event happening on the street, especially with someone apparently injured, though it was early, drew a small crowd of curious onlookers.
Within a moment, quite a few people had gathered around.
