Diary of a Criminal Investigator-Chapter 350: I’ve Got Big News
Life is just like this, most of the time it repeats yesterday’s story.
There’s nothing new under the sun; to find bad people, just look where the bad people gather.
Old Friend’s Game Room.
Sun Tao, who was just playing cards at the table, is now pressed onto the table, his hands in handcuffs.
"Director Chen, what’s the meaning of this? Just playing a couple of rounds of mahjong, that can’t be it, right?"
Chen Gang is the director of the Friendship Road Police Station, and he’s arrested this Sun Tao more than once.
"Sun Tao, with your character, even if you played 100 rounds of mahjong, I wouldn’t bother arresting you."
Lifting him, Chen Gang was exasperated, this Sun Tao has parents in their sixties without a pension, and usually survives by collecting and selling trash.
The child just started elementary school, the wife ran off with someone else, and he never acts properly for a day.
"Three years ago, Happy Road, Zhang Fengzhi, remember?"
Sun Tao was slightly startled, not expecting the case he committed three years ago to be brought up now.
Realizing that the police had found him and surely had evidence, Sun Tao didn’t deny it.
"Heh, damn, seems like my luck’s been bad lately, not just in cards."
"Madman Zhang, wasn’t he so badass back then? How is it now, I broke his legs and now look at him?"
Chen Gang shook his head, these hooligans, always bragging about who’s more badass.
For just a word, they’d break someone’s leg.
"Don’t worry about him, talk about yourself. You’ve caused someone serious injury; you’re not getting out without serving three to five years this time."
After speaking, Chen Gang said nothing more. For people like him, crime is a routine, they’re used to it.
Get caught and accept bad luck, if not, continue living freely.
As for rehabilitation inside, for most, it’s useless.
His elderly parents, his biological son couldn’t reform him, let alone others.
In the car, Zhang Chao and his colleagues had Sun Tao sandwiched in the middle, sitting in the backseat.
"Which department are you from? Not from the station, are you?"
Friendship Road Police Station was almost like a second home to Sun Tao, knowing most of the people inside.
But this time, the one who arrested him, Ren Qiang, Zhang Chao, and others were unfamiliar faces.
"Behave yourself, this time you’ve caused permanent disability, which is serious injury; getting out won’t be easy."
Zhang Chao squeezed the squatting Sun Tao on the middle seat: "You’ll know when we get there."
"Heh, even if you don’t tell, I know. You’re either from the Criminal Investigation Team or the higher Criminal Investigation Team; can’t be anywhere else."
Over the years, Sun Tao hadn’t mixed around for nothing; he knew the functional departments of the police system quite well.
"Regarding Madman Zhang’s case, since you caught me, I admit, but..."
Sun Tao knew the one in the passenger seat was the boss, so he looked at Ren Qiang: "Leader, I’ve got some big information. Can I get a reduced sentence?"
Big information?
Ren Qiang perked up but didn’t turn around.
In the back sat Zhang Chao; dealing with people like this was second nature to him.
Moreover, what Zhang Chao just said implied they were checking if Sun Tao had something.
This was a well-known routine; during an investigation, sometimes you shouldn’t focus on just one case.
Especially with someone like Sun Tao with a repeated criminal history. The people he knows are usually not good people, a mix of all kinds.
In their circle, to have status and a sense of achievement, you can only do one thing: see who does more and bigger bad deeds.
Pull up the carrot and bring up the mud; now Sun Tao is that carrot.
As for what mud he can bring up, it depends on how Zhang Chao performs.
"Ha, what big information could you have, who stole whose house, who robbed who?"
Zhang Chao nudged him: "Know where we’re from? Your case wouldn’t naturally attract our attention. If you hadn’t fled for three years, with just your little case, catching the Criminal Investigation Team’s eye would be lucky."
Sun Tao wasn’t dumb; seeing the situation, he knew he guessed right, those who caught him were from either the Criminal Investigation Team or the Criminal Investigation Team.
Now, he could be sure they were from the Criminal Investigation Team.
"Understood, understood, you work on big cases, I know, I know."
Sun Tao nodded continuously: "Officer, don’t worry, I’ve really got big information, surely can get a reduced sentence!"
Being able to stay outside, no one wants to go back inside, especially someone like Sun Tao who’d been in and out multiple times.
He’d already learned all the necessary skills, exchanged experiences, and endured hardships more than once.
Going back means only enduring hardships, no benefits.
"Speak first; I’ll listen to what big information you have."
"Gun!"
Gun?!
Upon hearing this, Zhang Chao froze.
Ren Qiang, who had been calm in the front passenger seat, suddenly turned his head, staring at Sun Tao.
"Explain in detail!"
"Yes, yes," Sun Tao nodded quickly.
"The story starts three months ago; one day..."
"Sun Tao, speak properly, what time, what place, what event, are you telling me a story?"
Zhang Chao patted Sun Tao on the head, still telling stories...
Thinking he’s a storyteller?
"Yes, yes, I’ll say it again."
It turns out three months ago, a friend of Sun Tao was celebrating a birthday, and after drinking heavily, a group was drinking in a KTV, Sun Tao overheard.
"That day we went to a particularly large KTV room with two restrooms. After drinking a bit too much, I went to the restroom to puke, and after puking, I leaned on the side to nap a bit. In a daze, I heard people in the next room talking about selling guns."
"You were drunk, remembered that clearly?"
"I actually have a good tolerance, and I generally sober up after puking and napping for a bit. I definitely didn’t hear wrong."
Sun Tao’s chest rattled as he patted it, handcuffed.
Zhang Chao glanced at him: "Do you know who they were?"
"I know, the nickname’s Fourth Zhang, he’s a friend’s sworn brother. He used to sell fireworks, got into trouble, was locked up for four or five years, and was released a few years back."
"Fourth Zhang? What’s his real name?"
"That I don’t know, everyone in the underworld calls him Fourth Zhang. But my friend definitely knows, he lives near us."
The car soon arrived at the Criminal Investigation Team.
"Officer, believe me, what I said is all true, it’s all true!"
Sun Tao was locked in the interrogation room; someone naturally conducted a preliminary interrogation.
But the interrogation wasn’t about the gun, it was about him shattering Zhang Fengzhi’s kneecaps.
"Brother Qiang, what to do?"
Outside the interrogation room, Zhang Chao frowned.
Gun-related cases have always been the most dangerous. Zhang Chao, in all his years as a cop, hadn’t encountered many.
"Better to err on the side of caution, organize a team to conduct a thorough investigation on this Fourth Zhang Sun Tao mentioned."
Ren Qiang also took this extremely seriously.
