Devil Slave (Satan system)-Chapter 1271: Things We Do for Love
The massive portal hummed with a steady, rhythmic pulse, a swirling vortex of light and energy suspended between two towering pylons. The air around it crackled faintly with static as engineers and technicians made last-minute adjustments to its alignment.
Just ahead of the portal sat the craft—a sleek, silver-skinned marvel of engineering. Its aerodynamic design hinted at its versatility, capable of soaring through skies, navigating the vast emptiness of space, and even plunging into the crushing depths of oceans. Its smooth curves and sharp angles glinted in the light, exuding a sense of power and purpose.
Amongst the people that will go on this trip with Enel, they were only a few choices. First was Allison, Lana, Commander Kael and then tomato who insisted on coming along.
Enel had chosen a small party for several reasons, one of them being the aim of the mission was to get information on the possible location of heaven.
Also, he already knew that they was going to be a significant amount of deaths. In fact, he expected this very much as he had never been on a mission that did not end with loss of life.
It was just that each person he had chosen had their own roles to play. He did not even want to carry along Tomato, but things could not be helped as he knew her well. She could possibly chase after him on foot if she had to.
Then again, until they knew the kind of threat that they were to face, then a little muscle won’t hurt.
Commander Kael would handle communications with home as well as logistics if need be. Allison on the other hand, had contacts with the location that they were going. After all, everything, information was power, most especially on foreign ground. She had been to this place on one of her several missions in the past and Enel could trust where her interest laid.
As for Lana. Enel had reasons he did not reveal to no one.
Nearby, Commander Kael oversaw the preparations. His commanding voice rang out as he directed the crew to secure the last of the equipment and perform final checks on the craft’s systems. Allison, Lana, Tomato, and Enel stood to the side, their expressions a mix of anticipation and determination. This was no ordinary journey—they were heading into the cosmos, a distant sector of space accessible only through the portal.
As the hustle continued, Commander Marian approached Kael, her stride deliberate and confident. Her sharp uniform contrasted with the softness of her eyes as she smiled at him. "Commander," she called, her voice carrying an unusual warmth.
Kael turned, his brow furrowing slightly in curiosity. "Commander Marian. Something you need?"
She stepped closer, her voice dropping to a more intimate tone. "I was wondering if we could talk… in private?" Her lips curled into a suggestive smile, and her fingers lightly traced her collarbone, drawing subtle attention to the neckline of her uniform, which was unbuttoned just enough to reveal a hint of cleavage.

Kael blinked, momentarily taken aback. Marian was known for her aloof demeanor, her beauty admired from afar but seemingly unattainable. Yet here she was, giving him a look that was anything but professional.
"Uh, sure," Kael said, clearing his throat as he handed his clipboard to another officer. "Lieutenant, take over the checks. I’ll be back shortly."
Marian nodded toward a shadowy corner of the hangar, and Kael followed, glancing over his shoulder to ensure no one saw them slipping away. Once they were out of view, Marian turned to him, her eyes locking onto his with an intensity that made his pulse quicken.
"You know," Kael said, grinning nervously, "I’ve always thought you were… well, out of my league." His voice carried a mix of humor and disbelief. "Didn’t think you’d ever give me the time of day."
Marian smiled coyly, stepping closer until there was almost no space between them. "Maybe I’ve noticed you more than you think, Kael," she whispered, her fingers tracing his jawline before pulling him into a deep, fervent kiss.
Kael’s mind spun. Her lips were soft and intoxicating, and for a moment, he let himself get swept away. When they parted, he laughed lightly, a boyish grin spreading across his face. "Wow… okay. I didn’t see this coming. You’re full of surprises."
Marian chuckled, her voice low and sultry. "I have more surprises, Commander," she murmured, her hands sliding down his chest. "But first, you’ll need to lose these." She tugged suggestively at his belt.
Kael didn’t hesitate, unbuckling his pants with a grin. "Anything for you," he joked, his voice tinged with playful excitement.
He didn’t notice the glint of metal in her hand until it was too late.
The blade sliced across his throat in one swift motion, the sharpness of the pain catching him off guard. His eyes widened as he staggered back, clutching his neck in a futile attempt to stop the blood that poured out in warm, sticky rivulets. His breaths came in shallow, gurgling gasps as he stared at Marian in a mixture of shock, betrayal, and disbelief.
Marian stepped back, her expression cold and detached. "I’m sorry, Kael," she said evenly, wiping the blade clean on her sleeve. "But I’ll do whatever it takes to protect what I have with Allison. Right now, you’re just in my way."
Kael collapsed to his knees, his vision blurring. He reached out toward her, his fingers trembling, but his strength failed him. He crumpled to the ground, his lifeless eyes fixed on the woman who had just taken his life.
Marian wasted no time. She dragged his body to a storage compartment nearby, her movements methodical and efficient. Once the body was concealed, she locked the compartment and smoothed her uniform, her face a mask of calm.
As she walked away, the portal’s hum seemed to grow louder, as if the universe itself was bearing witness to the treachery that had just unfolded.
