Devil Slave (Satan system)-Chapter 1261: A Conversation With Talking 2
Talking shifted uneasily in his seat, his injured leg stretched out before him. His gaze flickered between Enel and the others, as if he wasn’t entirely sure he should continue. But the allure of the strange fruit and the hope of salvation for his people compelled him to speak.
"After the light in the sky," he began, his voice carrying a weight of sorrow, "they came. The demons." He spat the word out as though it left a bitter taste in his mouth. "They came down like a storm, killing many of us. Taking even more. They…" His voice wavered, and he closed his eyes for a moment, his hands clenching into fists.
Enel tilted his head slightly, watching the man closely, his sharp eyes taking in every twitch of Talkling’s face, every tremor in his voice.
"They took our people for their experiments," Talkling continued, his words now coming faster, as though he needed to expel the memories quickly before they consumed him. "It was a cruel time. A time when being alive was worse than being dead."
He gestured weakly toward the hut’s walls. "Once, our villages reached the sky. Tall houses, tall towers. That’s what my father told me. But it’s all gone now. They brought it down, left us in the dirt." His eyes dropped to the floor, his fingers tracing a small groove in the stool’s edge.
Lana’s eyes flicked to Enel, her expression unreadable, though her stance had softened ever so slightly. After all, she was half Elf, and she knew the kind of pain that Talkling was talking about.
Her own people had long been punished by the demons, and the recent attack on their city only fueled her hate for them.
Allison, still standing closest to the door, had crossed her arms, her gaze hardened but her lips pressed into a thin line.
"They did horrible things to our fathers," Talkling said, his voice trembling. "They changed them, twisted them. Made them into things that weren’t them anymore. And the ones they didn’t take, they…" He hesitated, his breath hitching before he pushed forward. "They used our women. Tried to mate with them. Many suffered."
Enel’s expression didn’t change, though his fingers tapped lightly on the edge of the stool. "And the children?" he asked, his voice low but sharp.
"They never lived," Talkling replied, shaking his head. "If they made it out alive, they never saw the third day. Something… something was wrong. They couldn’t survive. It made the demons angry. Very angry."
Enel nodded slightly. He was well aware of the challenges demons faced when trying to reproduce. Their own kind rarely bore children, and so they sought other species to ensure their bloodlines endured. Humans were always the most compatible, their genetic design crafted by ’The One Above All.’ But this species? They weren’t human. Their biology wasn’t suited for demon offspring, and it clearly infuriated the demons to no end.
Talking’s gaze shifted to the floor again. "It went on for years. So many years. They kept experimenting, kept taking. But one day, they found something."
Enel’s interest sharpened. "What did they find?"
Talking pointed to the ground beneath their feet. Enel raised an eyebrow, leaning forward slightly. "The ground?" he asked, his tone laced with curiosity.
"Yes," Talking said firmly, nodding. "The core of our world. That’s what they wanted. That’s what they needed."
Enel’s eyes narrowed. "Explain."
Talking’s hands moved animatedly as he spoke, his voice gaining a desperate edge. "Our world… it has something they use. I don’t know what, but they dig deep. Far deeper than we ever have. And when they find it, they take it. It’s what they use to make their minions, their soldiers."
The room grew quiet for a moment, the weight of Talkling’s words settling over everyone.
Enel leaned back slightly, a faint smirk playing at the corner of his lips. "Of course," he murmured, more to himself than anyone else. "They couldn’t make life, so they turned to theft. Stealing what they needed from the very ground."
Allison’s eyes narrowed, her gaze shifting to Enel. "You think this has something to do with the tendrils?"
"Undoubtedly," Enel replied, his tone calm but decisive. "The core of this planet… whatever’s in it, it’s valuable. Valuable enough to attract demons, and apparently, it’s still drawing them in, else, The Greed Demon family would have done away with these wastes a long time ago."
Lana, who had remained silent until now, shifted her weight slightly. "What do we do?"
Enel glanced at her, his smirk widening. "We dig deeper than they ever have."
Talkling’s eyes widened in alarm. "You… you can’t! The ground—"
"Relax," Enel interrupted, raising a hand to silence him. "We won’t destroy your home. But I intend to find out exactly what’s beneath this planet, and why it’s worth so much to the demons."
The faint glint in Enel’s eyes betrayed a dangerous determination, one that made even Lana and Allison exchange uncertain glances. Whatever secrets the core held, Enel was intent on uncovering them. And nothing—not demons, not tendrils, not even the cries of the planet’s people—was going to stand in his way.

But most of all, it was obvious that Enel intended to take it for himself.
At such a time, Enel asked a question, "When we first arrived here. It was you that came running and screaming with your people to attack us. Why have you not done so for the tendrils that threaten your lives?"
However, Enel could see that Talking visibly shook when he mentioned the tendrils. The fear in the man’s eyes was the same as a normal person standing before a hungry lion.
Enel sighed at this. Their fear was too great.
But with this, it would make the mission that was given to him by the satan system very hard. After all, a people that had these amount of fear, cannot have hate, instead, all they will have is respect.
In fact, it is the type that made him expect what he was feeling right now.
Sharply, he turned as he threw a dagger into the ground, at the tendril that was aiming for him...
