Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau-Chapter 683 - 355: I Will, and So Will You
"I won’t forget. Just call me when it’s time," Lawrence Winters relaxed.
Brandon’s death had nothing to do with her. What a relief.
She hung up the phone and started packing her things to head home after work.
Just as she slung her bag over her shoulder, her phone rang again.
Lawrence glanced at it and saw it was a call from Lucas Harlow. She answered immediately and asked happily, "Lucas, how have you been lately?"
Ever since Lucas aided in an investigation and caused a stir on social media, he had been keeping a low profile.
Lawrence felt quite apologetic towards him and didn’t want to disturb him.
Hearing the pleasant tone in Lawrence’s voice, Lucas breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "Have you watched the news?"
Lawrence exclaimed, "Oh my! Don’t make me watch the news again! I’ve had enough of it!"
Despite saying this, she quickly opened her usual social media app to check for any trending topics.
There wasn’t anything special trending, but one news piece did make its way to her homepage.
#Internal strife at Dacheng Construction, executives abscond with funds, Boss Ouyang heavily in debt, going through bankruptcy liquidation#.
Lawrence gasped, "Is that the same Ouyang?!"
"He just extorted five hundred million from me! How is he already bankrupt?!"
Lucas smiled slightly, "Can you guess where his executives fled with the money?"
Lawrence: "..."
"I can’t guess."
"He went abroad but is now under control," Lucas laughed softly, "...to provoke the Stetford Family and think one could get away unscathed, no chance."
Lawrence knew he was talking about Ouyang.
And to think that the otherwise suave and gentlemanly Lucas had this side to him, where he would smile while stabbing.
Lawrence acknowledged having learned something.
Lucas knew Lawrence was in shock, so he continued with a smile, "I’ve got that five hundred million back for you. When you’re free, I’ll transfer it to your firm as a service fee."
Lawrence was stunned and quickly shook her head, saying, "No, no! I can’t accept that!"
"Then as an investment?" Lucas sighed, "This is the last bit of money you’ll make from me."
"Sorry I can’t be your cash cow anymore. I have to go back and inherit the family business," Lucas said lightly, as if joking, but his tone carried a seriousness and a hint of melancholy, as if there was also some regret.
A mix of complex emotions, only expressible through humor.
Lawrence gasped, "...you’re leaving the entertainment industry?!"
All the grand plans she prepared for him were about to go down the drain?
Lucas nodded, "Yes, I’m leaving tomorrow. Take care, let’s keep in touch."
With the internet now, you can contact anyone, anywhere around the world.
If you lose contact, it’s simply because you didn’t want to.
Lawrence nodded silently, feeling a bit sad as well, "Alright, I understand you have a unique status, joining the entertainment industry was just for fun. But you truly have talent, and losing you is a loss for the audience. Lucas, I hope you can be happy."
What Lucas cared about most was having his acting recognized.
Not only was it recognized now, but it was by someone he liked.
This feeling moved him and made him suddenly feel as though he could die right now without regrets.
"I will, you too," so many words to say, yet they all condensed into that one sentence, "you too."
After hanging up the call, Lawrence felt a bit dizzy.
She walked out of the Foster Group office building, looking at the blue sky and horizon in the distance, suddenly recalling that several lives had been lost over that piece of land.
Could there be something she didn’t know about or missed regarding that land?
Why was there such a fierce rush for it?
According to feng shui, places that cause loss of life are either very lucky or very unlucky.
Lawrence blinked, it seemed she needed to visit that place again.
This time, instead of sneaking off alone in the middle of the night, she brought it up during dinner with her family.
"Mom, Master, Grandmaster, Ken, I’m planning to go and take another look at our piece of land tonight," Lawrence put down her chopsticks and took a sip of coconut milk.
"Is that why you’re eating in such a hurry today?" Nick Zeller frowned at her, "What’s there to see? If you ask me, we should just sell the land. Five hundred million is a good deal."
Lawrence looked towards the old Daoist, "Grandmaster, what do you think? Should I take another look?"
The old Daoist chuckled, "This is your matter, your own cause and effect, no one can decide for you."
Lawrence then looked at Gabrielle Winters.
Gabrielle shook her head, agreeing with Nick, "Lawrence, your master is right. We should just sell the land. We don’t understand it, and it does seem troublesome."
Finally, Lawrence looked at Kenneth Osborne.
Kenneth put down his chopsticks and smiled, "Mom, Uncle Zhang, old Daoist, I’ll go with her to take a look. I understand your concerns, but I’ll keep an eye on her."
"If Ken is going with you, that’s fine," Nick Zeller reluctantly nodded, "but make sure to be careful, maybe go during the day. It’s not very safe at night."
"It’s fine, it’s quite safe there now. Since they’ve established a national first-grade protected woodland zone, there’s a dedicated forestry police station," Lawrence smiled, "it’s right near our land."
Gabrielle nodded, "That’s good, but still be careful, call if there’s any trouble."
"Got it!" With the whole family’s agreement, Lawrence felt no burden.
After dinner, she changed clothes and drove with Kenneth to the suburban land they owned.
