Desire Me If You Can-Chapter 92
Kwah, bang, a series of loud, startling sounds echoed, followed by the scattering of additional dust. After the deafening noise, leaving behind the ominous sounds, Dein remained unmoving, kneeling in place. Grayson was the same. Only his eyes, filled with desire, wildly flickered.
Only a few seconds had passed, but after what felt like an eternity, Dein suddenly let out a chuckle. His lips twisted into a crooked smile, as if mocking the situation, and Grayson froze. When he felt an ominous feeling in the air, suddenly, Dein poked Grayson’s cheek with his second finger, almost playfully, narrowing his eyes as he looked into Grayson’s gaze.
"That's a cute thing to say."
With that lighthearted tone, Grayson had no choice but to acknowledge that Dein hadn’t taken his confession seriously. Even though he had spoken from the heart, even now, his heart raced uncontrollably, with no falsehood in his feelings.
"Dein."
"Ah."
When his name was urgently called, Dein suddenly made an exclamation as if something had just occurred to him. Grayson hesitated, and Dein then looked at him, furrowing his brows as if searching for something.
"Do you happen to know a woman named Larien?"
Grayson didn’t respond immediately. He stared at Dein with a blank expression before finally speaking.
"Ah."
Just a single word, a mere exclamation, was enough to make Dein’s eyebrows rise in disbelief. Grayson slowly turned his gaze away, but he knew very well this conversation wouldn’t end here.
"Grayson Miller."
Dein called out his name with an air that pierced through him. That simple act of saying his name, in a low voice, became far more threatening than a hundred words of warning from the man who had just confessed his love. Grayson, who had been stubbornly avoiding eye contact, finally, as if resolved, returned his gaze to meet Dein’s. Soon after, he forced a smile, his usual wide grin.
"I met your little sister. How do you think she’s doing? Is she okay?"
Before anyone could say anything, Dein raised his clenched fist, as if threatening to beat him senseless. After seeing the look on Grayson’s face as his gaze dropped to the fist, Dein spoke.
"Tell me everything. What’s going on?"
With a stern voice, as if warning him not to lie even a little, Grayson scratched his cheek and then sighed.
"I just did some background research on that woman."
"That woman?"
Dein frowned, and Grayson answered briefly.
"Sabrina Woods."
"Hah."
Dein sighed in disbelief. Immediately, Grayson protested.
"There’s no way she could be pregnant with your child. I was just worried you might get tricked by some scam artist."
Dein couldn’t believe what he was hearing, but decided to hold his tongue and wait for him to continue. Grayson, still with a discontented expression, went on.
"When I did some background research, I found out that Larien was among the people she’d been involved with recently..."
"You contacted my sister and told her about the hospital? On the day I was supposed to go with Sabrina?"
Dein cut him off, and Grayson pouted, turning his head away. "This guy, I tell him he’s pretty, and this is what I get." Dein clenched his fist again, but he couldn’t bring himself to strike him. After all, this guy had saved Darling’s life.
And perhaps...
The suspicion that Grayson Miller might have been abused still lingered in his heart. Could it be that the other siblings had grown up in the same environment?
"Larien is on the most-wanted list, yet she still seems to be in contact."
Muttering to himself, thinking maybe there was some bond between siblings who shared the same pain, Grayson turned his gaze back to Dein.
"No, not at all."
Dein hesitated and looked at him. As if asking how he had done it.
"You know, all of our family members have tracking devices implanted."
Grayson casually pointed out the fact that had been forgotten. Ah, Dein suddenly realized, and Grayson continued.
"Finding Larien’s location is easy. I just asked the secretarial team to pass along a message. There’s an entire team dedicated to handling these small tasks..."
So, even if she was wanted nationwide, they could capture her right away? Dein briefly considered that and then changed his mind. No one would turn in their family.
Seeing that he had no words left in his mouth, Grayson suddenly grinned. When Dein took a cautious step back, he spoke nonchalantly.
"Larien is greedy, so once she targets someone, she’ll never let them go. Especially if it’s someone she’s pregnant with."
"...Hah."
Dein sighed involuntarily. Everything had become so complicated. He had already met two extreme alphas in his life, something most people would never even encounter, and all of them were Millers. Now, if you include the Millers he knew indirectly, there were three. How had so many Millers appeared around him?
He rubbed his face with one hand, then looked off into the distance before shaking the thought off. Soon after, he rose to his feet and looked down at Grayson.
"If anything like this happens again, you tell me first. Don’t go behind my back plotting things."
He pointed at Grayson with his second finger, a warning, and Grayson stood up, looking down at him with a frown.
"I was just trying to help."
"Honestly, has anyone ever been happy when you tried to help them?"
"Of course. Everyone loved it."
"That’s impossible. Didn’t I tell you not to lie?"
Dein’s tone was firm. With a face full of dissatisfaction, Grayson fell silent. This guy, if he ever relaxed, would lie. Dein took a deep breath and exhaled, finally giving one last warning.
"Just do what I tell you. Don’t go helping people on your own, got it?"
He waited for an answer, but Grayson stubbornly kept his mouth shut. There was no need to waste any more time, so Dein turned and started walking away. After only a few steps, Grayson called out to him from behind.
"I told you I like you. Why aren’t you answering me?"
In a voice full of dissatisfaction, Dein turned his head and looked at the sky, letting out another sigh.
"Pretty boy."
Dein turned his body around and sneered at Grayson.
"Do you think I’m the first person you’ve ever confessed your feelings to?"
Watching the expression disappear from Grayson’s face, Dein couldn’t help but smile cynically.
"Has anyone ever asked you to marry them?"
This time, Grayson stayed silent again. For a brief moment, Dein felt a flicker of sympathy for him. It was a ridiculous emotion, and for a moment, he felt pity and compassion, though he couldn’t deny it. At times like these, it was dangerous to feel sympathy. If he wasn’t going to accept it, it was better to reject it harshly, just like he had always done.
...But Darling.
None of the people who had confessed to him before had ever risked their [N O V E L I G H T] lives for his poor cat. That’s why, in this case, Dein couldn’t help but be weak toward Grayson.
After a brief moment of contemplation, he let out a short sigh and rubbed his forehead. Grayson, silently observing his emotional turmoil, stood still. Although he couldn’t know exactly what was going through Dein’s heart, Grayson could understand with his mind. He had used all his knowledge to analyze every move Dein made.
Finally, Dein seemed to have decided on his words and opened his mouth.
"Miller, I don’t intend to date anyone, including you. So just because you confessed to me, nothing will change. I’m grateful for what you did for Darling, but that’s all. Don’t expect more."
Dein said it as coldly as possible, but still, he tried to be as careful as he could to avoid hurting him. This situation was incredibly special for Dein. He had never been so considerate toward anyone who had confessed to him before.
But Grayson Miller was different.
"How about we date for three months, just as an experiment?"v
