Desire Me If You Can-Chapter 10
In the atmosphere where self-loathing and futility intertwined, the woman lifting dumbbells for arm exercises spoke with a blank expression.
"Did the great Miller family make a huge donation or something? How can we stop that? After all, it’s the Millers."
"Dammit, fucking hell!"
Another man cursed harshly. Everyone was upset by the injustice of the situation, but as the woman had said, there was nothing they could do. All they could do was vent their frustration by lifting weights faster than usual or spewing curses.
"On the other hand, if we think about it, they must be getting something out of this too. We'll probably benefit somehow, like improved facilities or new equipment."
Another woman added, trying to offer some comfort, but everyone muttered curses under their breath with disgruntled faces.
"Anyway, the conclusion is the same. We're in a pretty shitty situation right now."
The clear conclusion from one of their colleagues was met with unanimous agreement. Then another colleague spoke up.
"Since it's come to this, how about we give him a fiery welcome?"
For a moment, they looked at each other, their faces blank. But as they quickly realized what "fiery welcome" meant, their faces broke into strange smiles. It was, of course, a completely different story from the "pleasant welcome party" the chief had mentioned.
It might even be more fun.
One by one, they began agreeing with the idea.
"Oh, that's right. He’s from the great Miller family, we can’t just let this go."
"Let’s give him a warm welcome, with all our hearts."
"Of course, he’s an extreme alpha, right? It’s the Miller family, after all."
"We need to check what kind of pheromones he has."
A low, ominous chuckle escaped from their mouths as their eyes burned with animosity toward Grayson, whom they hadn't even met yet. They would not let him off, not Miller!
Fueled by this desire, they continued with their muscle exercises, but suddenly one of them turned and asked.
"So where’s Dane?"
"Huh?"
As the team members realized that one of them was missing, they looked around, confused. Ezra responded.
"He’s at the police station, said he’d be late."
The others, shocked, repeated his words, wide-eyed.
"Police station?"
"At the police station? Why?"
The unexpected mention of the police station had everyone startled, and questions poured out all at once. Seeing the identical expressions of confusion from his colleagues, Ezra answered with a flustered face.
"Well..."
"Dane Striker, please sign here."
The police officer handed Dane a piece of paper with a blank space. Dane scribbled his signature in the space provided. The officer promptly took the paper back and spoke in a disinterested tone. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"Once the investigation progresses, you’ll be contacted. In the meantime, you must not approach the victim. Understand?"
The officer listed a few things to be cautious of, but Dane clearly showed no interest, yawning as if bored. His bad attitude made the veins in the officer’s temples throb, prompting the lawyer to quickly smile and calm him down.
"Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. Thank you for your hard work. We’ll be leaving now..."
Mumbling the farewell, the lawyer hurriedly pushed Dane out and out of the police station. As they exited, the lawyer let out a relieved sigh and began to complain.
"Everything’s fine, but please, just don’t sleep with married women."
The role of the fire department’s legal advisor was to resolve any legal issues that came up with the firefighters, but he found solving such cases rewarding only when it was related to their job. Getting involved in infidelity cases was, to him, a chore.
"I told you, she’s single."
Dane, still irritated, defended his innocence.
"I hate getting into trouble. But who knew her husband would barge in? He didn’t listen to anything I said and went crazy, so I just gave him a little smack to calm him down."
"So why did you hit him? From his perspective, you’re the one who was invading!"
The lawyer, now speaking in an agitated tone, repeated his question. Looking down at the lawyer, Dane clenched his fist.
"Because he was loud."
At that cynical reply, the lawyer quickly fell silent. As Dane looked ahead again and lowered his hand, the lawyer walked beside him, clearly trying to find the right moment to speak. But the wait was not long.
"You’re used to one-night stands with women you meet at bars. I know that. But why did you follow her to her house? Didn’t you swear off staying out overnight? What about Darling?"
Why does he know so much about me?

Dane frowned, looking down at him as if the lawyer could read his mind. The lawyer # Nоvеlight # continued speaking.
"The chief specifically instructed me that if anything happens to Dane Striker, we need to get him out as quickly as possible. Even your cat’s blind and deaf, right? It’s old, too. If something happens to you, it’ll be hard to put it up for adoption, so don’t get into any more trouble. Be more responsible!"
"Hah."
Of course, he had plenty of responsibility, especially since he felt an overwhelming sense of guilt about Darling, who was waiting alone after his unexpected night out.
"Alright, I’ll hold back for now."
Sighing, he ran his hand through his hair, and the lawyer nodded in approval.
"I’ll trust you. Then I’ll handle this from here. Are you heading to work?"
"No, I’ll go home first. I need to feed Darling..."
Dane glanced at his watch, calculating the time, and before he could say more, the lawyer opened the door to the car and spoke.
"Get in, I’ll drive you."
Without hesitation, Dane opened the passenger door and got in. The lawyer, who had been looking at him with a blank expression as he sat down before him, swallowed his frustration and sat in the driver’s seat.
"Oh, by the way, did you hear? They say Miller’s second son is coming to the station today."
"What?"
Dane asked, frowning slightly at the lawyer’s words. The lawyer, focusing on driving, replied casually.
"They say he’s going to work as a firefighter. He’ll be starting this afternoon, for a year."
"...Hah."
Dane didn’t respond further. He simply sighed in disbelief.
It’s ominous.
The fire chief felt a chill running down his spine as he looked at the man sitting across from him, his pristine face reminding him of Ashley Miller’s child.
As expected of the Miller family, his looks were stunning. The exceptional appearance of extreme alphas was widely known, but seeing it in person was overwhelming. His violet eyes were especially mesmerizing, almost like staring into space. Along with the faint sweet scent of his pheromones, it felt like a dream, and reality seemed distant. When Grayson Miller extended his hand for a handshake, the fire chief froze for a moment, staring at his face.
Grayson, who had arrived 15 minutes early, had sat in the waiting area without complaining until the appointed time. Once he entered the office and faced the chief, he still maintained a smiling face and delivered the usual greetings, as though waiting was no big deal.
Up to this point, his attitude had been impeccable. He was polite, not saying anything unnecessary. But most notably, his looks were beyond perfect. The fire chief had clearly noticed that his secretary was also unable to look away from him, as though hypnotized. If things continued like this, despite the way he had used a loophole to get into this position, with time, everything would blend together. The fierce atmosphere would likely subside, and things would settle down.
Even though the chief knew full well the staff’s opposition.
