Demon's Virtue-Chapter 794: Language
Marius looked at Eiro, smiling genuinely for probably the first time since Eiro brought him and the other humans here. Of course, the situation that he was in was rough, that was something that nobody could deny. From the beginning, they only had three paths in their lives. One, get devoured by the Devil. Two, completely abandon their former lives, and live on as refugees in a new place. Three, become part of the monster town. All these people here had chosen the last of those three options, though the first obviously wasn't something for them to choose in the first place.
"My lord, I truly don't know what to say... these gifts that you have given us today... I will never forget them," Marius bowed his head, placing his hand onto his chest. It was a thanks filled with absolutely genuine emotion. Stronger emotions than Eiro had heard from him as well. It was clearly a complicated cocktail of joy and sadness that the demon didn't fully understand. The only tangible emotion that he could draw out and see from Marius' mind was how truly and genuinely glad he was; how glad he was to be here and be given this opportunity.
"If you don't know what to say, then you don't need to say anything. I didn't do this for gratitude, or for your thanks," Eiro said, "I promised that I would take care of you, and my trade is that of a prosthetist. It's natural that I would do something like this. Rather, I apologize that it has come so late."
He was truly and genuinely sorry about that. If he had treated them way before now, they could all be in places where they would be able to live normally again. But now, that was delayed for a while. And sure, Eiro healed them to a degree, but the healing process couldn't be fully skipped with just a single spell. They would all still need to take it easy to avoid opening up their injuries. Introducing a healthy flow of life force was going to help the healing process of course, but there were a lot of factors that went into recovery. And especially since all of these people were going to work very actively, there could be some issues. Which is why Eiro made a very particular decision just now. He turned every single one of their shadows into a servant.
However, recently, Eiro learned a new way to create servants. With the experience that he gained with creating the embodiments of his different skills, Eiro learned how to infuse such abilities and concepts into servants as well, basically fine-tuning them toward very specific purposes. And the ability that he used as a basis to create these shadow-servants was that of the 'knowledge' magic that Eiro learned from Anura, the frog servant from the elemental plane of water.
This way, the shadows basically acted as 'records' of all of their actions, habits, and growth. It was a bit disappointing that Eiro still didn't get his hands on an appraisal ability, but he had enough knowledge about human anatomy, skills, classes, and any other basic function of the system, that Eiro should be able to guess the growth trajectory of each of them, figuring out the best methods for each of them to grow. At the same time, it should be a good way for Eiro to actively learn about their physical conditions and how they adapted to their prosthetics as well as their new classes and abilities.
Did it infringe on their privacy? Sure, but it wasn't as though Eiro particularly cared about what these people did. He wasn't doing this out of some sort of sick pleasure, but because it was the most effective way to take care of these people and fulfill the promise that he made to them – to let them grow to levels they never would have been able to do on their own.
Marius still had his head slightly lowered to the demon, and carefully spoke, "Everybody should have attained their class by now, at least those that are able to do already."
The demon slowly shook his head, "No, there's still one more person that hasn't."
He looked past some of the buildings, staring at a young woman that was throwing pebbles into the distance, as if just trying to pass the time. Eiro remembered her. She was amongst the more unhappy ones in the village when Eiro came to free them. Of course, kids her age could get extremely emotional, and Eiro could speak from experience. She was just a year or two younger than his own kids were.
Unsure what Eiro was talking about, Marius looked around, "Are you certain, my lord? Who else is missing?"
"... don't worry about it. I'm going to briefly talk to her," the demon said, starting to walk down the trodden path. He should really fix this up and make it a bit more pleasant for everyone to walk on. The dirt road wasn't the best for everyone here. Why the earth mages from town hadn't done this yet was a mystery to Eiro, though, but he could just get it done later when everyone vacated the main road.
Eiro turned around the corner, approaching the young woman. She turned her head and the moment she saw Eiro, she jumped up from her seat, a moss-covered rock, and bowed her head deeply. Somehow, it felt as though she was doing this with a bit of sarcasm mixed into her action, as though she didn't truly think Eiro was someone worth bowing to. Eiro liked that quality.

"Raise your head," the demon said, and the girl did so without a moment's hesitation, staring at the demon without fear in her eyes.
"What can I do for you, oh holiest lord Daemonherz?" she asked, still not showing any sort of emotion on her face. It made Eiro wonder if she had some kind of skill like Arc did, where some of her emotions were suppressed. But no, she didn't have that sort of smell. Her scent was that of another ability.
The demon laughed slightly, shaking his head, "Holy? You realize I'm a demon, don't you?"
Not humoring Eiro at all, the girl stayed silent. So... this wasn't going to work, clearly. Getting on her good side wouldn't be that easy. Instead, Eiro chose to go another route. He would be straightforward, "Why did you not choose a class?"
"... I a class really something that I need?" the girl asked, and Eiro shrugged lightly.
"Not necessarily, but it would most certainly help with your work. Plus, I can tell you have some powerful innate talents," Eiro explained, "I feel as though you might be able to get an extremely rare class."
The girl frowned slightly. That was the first bit of emotion she showed in this conversation, "Again, do I really need a class? Can I not just leave it be?"
Eiro smiled lightly, looking at the girl. The way she talked and carried herself. The tone of her voice. The way she looked at Eiro as if he wasn't anything special or particularly weird, as if... everything here was weird to her to begin with. So, Eiro decided on throw a small hail mary. He didn't intend to force the girl, so if this didn't work, he would leave it be. Because he could tell that the girl had no interest in getting a class whatsoever. He opened his mouth, and spoke English. It's a language that Eiro was taught by Arc, a language from his old world. Over there, they didn't have the system, so peoples' languages developed in pretty interesting ways. There were hundreds of different human languages, mostly defined by the region they lived in, and every one of those had numerous dialects within them. It was quite an interesting idea. Plus, people tended to learn other languages sometimes. Arc apparently knew how to speak this 'English', which he learned natively, 'French', and 'Spanish'. English and Spanish in particular were supposedly amongst the most commonly spoken languages in the world. And counting natives and non-natives together, English was apparently the most spoken language over there, so it was a bit of a safe bet. If his gut-feeling was right, it was likely she would know this.
"You're not from this world, are you?" Eiro asked. He wasn't sure if his accent was quite right. Since that world didn't have a system, of course there wasn't a skill that correlated to it, and Arc hadn't spoken that language in almost two decades now. But it was enough.
The girl's eyes opened widely, and she took a step forward with a broad, ecstatic smile plastered onto her face. She responded in a language from earth, but not english; she was speaking what sounded like this 'Spanish' that Arc had shown Eiro briefly. Though, he didn't know that language, since Arc couldn't remember it quite as well as english. But he didn't need to, anyway.
