Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Am I Laughing?_1
Li Xuan, of course, couldn’t possibly bring everyone back to the Vermilion Bird Hall. Firstly, there were too many people for the prison cells to accommodate.
However, a group of debauchees led by Cui Hongan were all thrown in by Li Xuan. He had made up his mind; these guys would not be released from the prison of the Vermilion Bird Hall unless they had been thoroughly chastised and made submissive.
Li Xuan figured if he did not seriously discipline these guys and get them obedient, he would probably face a lot of trouble in the future.
After settling in these spoilt children of officials and the wealthy, Li Xuan took Peng Fulai and Zhang Yue to see Jiang Hanyun.
“Your Excellency, here to report! Your subordinate has brought back Peng Fulai and Zhang Yue.”
“I’ve seen.”
Jiang Hanyun calmly picked up a tierce as thick as an arm from the desk and blew on the tip,”You may leave! I have something to speak with them. Remember to tightly close doors and windows, and temporarily don’t allow anyone into the courtyard.”
“This subordinate understands!”
Li Xuan paid his respects and retreated without any emotion from Jiang Hanyun’s public office. Not until he stepped over the doorway, did he look at his two buddies with a very sympathetic gaze.
“This subordinate does not know where they have angered your Excellency, considering their first offense, please show some mercy, Commander.”
“Where did they anger? First offense?” Jiang Hanyun sneered, waving her hand dismissively, “Go! This is not the place for you to speak.”
At that moment, Peng Fulai and Zhang Yue were both as white as sheets. Even without using their heads, they both could guess what was to happen next. Their teeth chattered, their legs shook like sieves, and their eyes pleaded Li Xuan for mercy.
But to their disappointment, Li Xuan still heartlessly walked out, and then ‘click’, closed the door.
Walking out of the door, Li Xuan sighed, shaking his head, and silently mourned his two buddies in his heart.
As a brother, I wanted to help you, but I myself am also in a tough spot and I can’t do anything about it. If blame is to be put, just blame the two of you for causing your own misfortune.
The moment he stepped out of the gate, he heard a ‘bang’ sound followed by Peng Fulai’s pig-like screech.
So tragic that Li Xuan couldn’t help but shiver, and mentally upgraded the ferocity of that female superior up a notch.
At this moment, Yue Qianqian was coming face-to-face. When she saw Li Xuan, she retracted slightly, her eyes filled with fear, “Commander Youjiao, could you not smile like that? It’s pretty scary!”
“Really?” Li Xuan touched his face with a puzzled look, “I’m not smiling.”
“You clearly are, that kind of creepy smile. It looks like you want to laugh but you are holding it back, very twisted, like a successful villain.”
At this point, Zhang Yue’s sharp cry rang out inside the courtyard. Yue Qianqian shivered, and suddenly realized, “So that’s it, Commander Youjiao, you’re taking pleasure in their misfortune?”
“Of course not! You misunderstood.” Li Xuan diverted the topic with a solemn face, “Did you make any progress on the investigation of the Nine Surnamed Fishermen?”
When he first returned to the Vermilion Bird Hall, he noticed that everyone in Mingyou City seemed to have a joyous look on their faces.
“Yes, we’ve made excellent progress! The hints you gave us were correct.” Yue Qianqian brightened up and whispered in Li Xuan’s ear: “So far we’ve found that seven fishing families have lost their children in recent months. All are said to have been taken away by taoists. We’re still investigating more leads.”
“What’s the situation with these seven families?”
As Li Xuan was inquiring, another ‘bang’ sound came from inside the small courtyard. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Peng Fulai crawl out of the window. But before he got out completely, he was dragged back inside. He grasped the window ledge tightly, his eyes filled with despair, and his face covered in a mixture of snot and tears.
Li Xuan glanced at him, and then turned back to Yue Qianqian with his expression returning to normal, “Do you know the details? How long have the children been missing? And who took them?”
“I’m not sure.” Yue Qianqian pointed her slightly pale face towards the courtyard, “Nothing bad is going to happen to those two guys, right?”
About a moment later, the screams of Peng Fulai and Zhang Yue finally stopped.
When Jiang Hanyun stepped out of the room, she still seemed to be her usual delicate and helpless self. However, the words she spoke sent shivers down spines.
“Such weaklings. They couldn’t even withstand a prayer bell.”
After saying this, Jiang Hanyun cast a sideways glance at Li Xuan, “Take your people away and we hope they learn their lesson. Li Xuan, you too. If you slack off in martial arts training, their fate is your tomorrow!”
“The subordinate will remember!” Li Xuan mumbled, swallowed a mouthful of saliva, and then walked into Jiang Hanyun’s office once again.
There he saw Peng Fulai and Zhang Yue lying on the ground with vacant expressions, as if all their spirits had just left their bodies.
Strangely enough, there were no visible injuries on the two of them, as if the screams and beatings from before had never happened.
Just the thought of this sent chills down Li Xuan’s spine, aware that it was the result of a very sophisticated method which could make a person suffer extreme pain without leaving any visible injuries.
This meant if that she-devil wanted to beat him up, she could do so without leaving any trace for his parents to see.
He shook his head, then dragged both men away as if he was taking out dead dogs.
It wasn’t until Li Xuan brought them to the stables and settled them onto the back of the Dragon Colt, that Zhang Yue regained some consciousness. He twitched a little, then mumbled incoherently, “Demon, she’s a demon!”
“That Blood Hand Butcher must have had her soul cast into hell. Damn it, I, old Peng, have never suffered like this before in my life,” recovered Peng Fulai then glared resentfully at Li Xuan, “What a traitor you are, Li Qianzhi, to sell us out!”
“How can you say that?” Li Xuan definitely couldn’t admit this wrongdoing, “The commanding officer only ordered me to bring you over. How could I know that she would beat you up? I did speak up for you.”
Peng Fulai didn’t believe a word of Li Xuan’s nonsense, not a single word, “You couldn’t guess it would happen, Li Qianzhi? You could have at least warned us!”
“That’s not fair!” Li Xuan glared back at the two, “I was wondering what on earth you did to make her so angry. And I was blamed as well. Don’t tell me, it is just because you went to the brothel yesterday and got into trouble at the Hongyue Lodge?”
Peng Fulai looked very awkward. Of course, the reason Jiang Hanyun punished them was not just for this. The key point was that they both played hooky for two days.
The Liudao Division implemented a shift system, so when Li Xuan had his days off, they were supposed to be on duty.
When Li Xuan was around, they would do a bit of the work for the Liudao Division for the sake of their buddy. But after Li Xuan left, they completely let themselves go.
Peng Fulai was very frustrated and unwilling to accept it. There were several other idle young nobles in Mingyou City, why was it that Jiang Hanyun only beat them?
Could it be because he didn’t pay enough bribes to the higher-ups?
“I shouldn’t have come to Mingyou City.”
Zhang Yue was also filled with resentment, regretting his previous decision. Then he looked around, “Where are we preparing to go? Patrol the streets again? It’s almost night.”

Li Xuan, of course, thought they should patrol the streets since they haven’t done it for two days.
Other groups have been covering for them during this time. If this continued, their colleagues would start complaining.
But before he could say anything, Ma Chenggong rushed in on an Earth Dragon, “Follow me later, everybody get on an Earth Dragon. We’re moving out!”
His face was excited, “We finally found those damned beasts.”
