Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 345: As The Pot Said To The Kettle.
Brooke followed Damien to a room in his house filled with records hanging on the wall. She watched him recline against the record player, and search for a track to play, his eyes shifting her way in a not-so-discreet manner.
He picked something that sounded like smooth jazz, Brooke wasn’t a huge fan of music, so she wouldn’t know. Once the music filled the room, his voice floated over the melody, "You really are a fearsome woman. Having such a strong family backing you up and acting so..." he didn’t know the right word to use.
He noticed how scary her husband looked as he took her away with him, he didn’t want to rub anyone the wrong way.
Though, it wouldn’t be the first time.
Brooke ignored his statement and asked instead, "So you were working for his parents?" She guessed so, but seeing them together just proved her speculation was right.
"I was forced into it. You know how frightening these wealthy people can be." He said.
As the pot said to the kettle.
"And the Cassie thing? What did you have against her?" She probed. "You seemed to want her out of business, is there a particular reason?"
He thought for a while before answering, "Tell me about your involvement with her, and I might tell you mine."
She shook her head. "Tell me yours first."
Damien refused. "You already forced my agency to give a statement that I was with you and Ethan that night at the hotel. I’ve protected your image from a hideous scandal, this is the least you could do for me."
Brooke could see he was being cautious. It made her wonder what for. Just how deep did his connection to Cassie run?
She glided her fingers across the records on the walls as she slowly moved about the room. "She’s my half sister." she announced, seeing no point in hiding it now.
He wouldn’t dare do anything to the Grayson’s daughter-in-law.
She had the upper hand.
"I’m sorry, what?" He hadn’t expected to hear that of all things. Considering the preexisting drama they conjured up online, that reveal sounded surreal.
Brooke insisted. "We have the same mother."
"And apparently the same husband." He added.
She chuckled dryly, "They aren’t married yet."
"That’s what you have to say? How are you taking all this? That skank practically stole your husband." Damien pointed out.
Brooke crinkled her brows. "I never said anything like that. What makes you think that?"
He scoffed, "It’s Cassie, it’s just what she does. I should know." He froze up. His widened eyes proved he never intended for that part to slip out. He took a sharp inhale, before revealing in a deep exhale, "She nearly made my father divorce my mother."
Oh.
Well, that was something Brooke had no knowledge of.
"Cassie was involved with your father?" She asked.
But what she really wanted to know was if Cassie really slept with old men. She knew her sister pulled a nasty trick and nearly had her assaulted by an old man.
However, it was one thing to set her up, and another to take on clients herself.
Damien stopped the record and switched it to a slower, softer melody. "She entertains all sorts of veterans in the industry for her roles. However, I don’t know to what extent she gets involved." he found it strange her sister had no idea about the dirty work Cassie was into.
Brooke pried, "But with your father, how deep did it run?" she wouldn’t have asked, she knew it was insensitive, but she needed to know.
He looked in pain as he responded, "They were heavily involved. You wouldn’t believe to what extent." His eyes darted across the room, avoiding her gaze.
He was clearly ashamed to even be talking about this.
"Try me." Brooke challenged.
The room fell silent for a full minute. He was summoning courage to say whatever it was he had to reveal, his silence heightening Brooke’s anxiety.
Breathless, he told her something he had prepared to take to his grave with him.
"He got her..." his tone dropped into a raspy mumble, "the best actress award."
Brooke shook her head. "That’s not possible-" well of course it was. People usually suspected this sort of thing happened. But, to get the actual clarification? And, what was worse, Damien was on the worst end of things.
"Your award-"
He lashed at her, "I would never need that sort of thing to win!"
She pushed her hair back, "I know that." she really did believe that he was talented and would never do that. "But, do you really think everyone else will believe you?"
"No," he grunted, "I’m not stupid. That’s why this can’t ever come to light." his credibility was on the line. "Not like it can. My father is a very meticulous man, and so are his friends. Exposing this would be impossible."
Brooke wanted to challenge that, for her husband, she believed he could do something about it, but there was no need to point that out. "Then why did you tell me this? I could have been recording this conversation for all you know."
He shook his head, "You wouldn’t. You put up with Lucas and the director’s bullshit for Sadie’s sake. I haven’t been the best person to you, but i can tell you’re not a bad person." he said, still not answering her question.
"You just want to use me, or rather my husband’s resources." she chimed.
He grinned, "You’re also not stupid." he turned the music off. His features turned serious, "If you expose what my father did, I’ll let everyone know about your marriage to your sponsor, and now that your sister was Cassie. People won’t care about the truth, the only thing on their minds will be how you and Cassie swindled the public on some publicity stunt."
She had more or less expected to have people come up to her since admitting Ethan was her ex, which was why she did not want to let that cat out of the bag. Now, everything would go to shit if she wasn’t careful.
"But don’t worry, I know your husband could end me in a second, so I won’t ask for much." he told her.
Brooke doubted that.
"And," she folded her arms, her gaze piercing, "What exactly do you need me to do?"
"Kill her." he said with no hesitation whatsoever.
