Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 229: A Surprising Appraisal
Chapter 229: A Surprising Appraisal
Ethan didn’t know which he wanted to do first, land a punch on the old man or smash his head against his door. He hated the way he spoke to him, but considering what Serena had told him, he knew better than to attack him for it.
"Why did you suddenly get so silent? Do you need me to rephrase so you’ll understand better?" Julian asked.
"I understood you the first time." Ethan snarled at him.
"Oh? That’s refreshing to hear, I thought this old man had better hearing than you." He sent him a flippant smile, although his eyes held no such humor.
Ethan’s eyes darted to the pen, and then to the exposed side of Julian’s neck, and then back to the pen again. He clenched his right hand so tightly, veins started popping out.
"What exactly are you here about? Why are you concerned about a nobody like Brooke?" Ethan asked in a forceful tone.
Julian thought to himself, ’They all speak about Brooke like she’s an eyesore. Are they all unaware that she’s married to the Grayson heir?’ he had hoped to learn more from Ethan, but he sensed no intelligence from the supposedly richest man in the city.
Ignoring his question he made for the door, but was cut off by a call from Serena. "Hello-"
"Come home quickly! Cassie tried to kill herself!" She yelled into the phone.
"What?!" Julian’s heart skipped a beat. He tried to ask her some questions, but Serena kept crying and ignored all of them.
Fed up he disconnected the call and turned to Ethan, "Cassie is in danger!" he announced, but to his utmost surprise there was no shift in Ethan’s expression whatsoever.
In the most nonchalant tone he asked, "Is the kid okay?"
Julian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, his daughter or not, no young woman deserved to have the father of her child care so little about her.
"I’m going to check on her, do you have the number for her personal doctor?"
Ethan got up, "There’s no need, just take me to her."
"Serena sounded distraught, something must be wrong...." He was saying, but Ethan’s expression wasn’t changing at all. Was he really this unbothered?
Julian couldn’t push back those thoughts as he got into his car and drove out of the area...
Gilbert held his phone to his ear as he walked into the backseat of the readied car. Getting off the call he looked ahead at the rearview mirror, only to see half of the driver’s head blocking his view.
"Move your damn head! I can’t see a thing!" He scolded, wondering if the driver grew a few inches overnight.
’But then, I always sat in the passenger’s seat while the young master sat here.’ he thought, his mind darting to the pathetic state Thane was in when the doctors rushed him in for immediate treatment.
Pushing back his thoughts he said to the driver, "Take me to this address. And no matter what anyone asks you where I went, you are not permitted to say anything, am I understood?" He asked while sharing his destination to the car’s mapping software.
The driver nodded.
Gilbert reclined into the soft seat, and pointed his gaze at the tinted glass, "Don’t bother me until we’ve reached my destination." He said then closed his eyes before the driver could give a response.
Sloane wasn’t so sure about what could make the pendant so valuable that she had to come down on to shop herself. But when Marcel, the appraiser took out the gem, she couldn’t help but frown.
Tapping her foot she said, "You told me that you had something special to tell me, I expect something worth my while."
The appraiser nodded, and immediately explained, "I apologize for calling you here, but this is a sensitive matter. You see, I hold you in high esteem, you are my largest buyer, and the last thing I’d want is for rumors to be spread about you."
She raised a brow, "What kind of rumor?"
Gently sliding the gem to her, Marcel said, "This gem must belong to someone from the Rosamund family."
Sloane twisted her lips, why would a gem that Joan’s kid have belong to the Rosamunds? She never imagined Daniel having any relation to them, neither did his sister Tara have any.
"How sure are you? It’s just an emerald isn’t it? It could belong to anyone." She defended, after all she merely wanted him to make sure it was authentic.
But Marcel insisted, "Mrs Grayson, at first glance this might seem like an emerald, but it is in fact an incredibly rare gem on the brink of extinction. It’s been with the Rosamund family for years, I am almost certain that the owner of this gem is a Rosamund."
Seeing the skeptic look on her face, Marcel asked, "Do you not believe my analysis?"
She shook her head, "Somewhat. Seeing as you could insinuate that a Grayson stole from a Rosamund, I’m certain you are convinced this gem belongs to a Rosamund."
Realizing the mistake, Marcel apologized, "I didn’t mean it in that way, I was ignorant and foolish with my words. It’s just that a gem this rare isn’t sold, at least to me, no right thinking person would sell such a rare gem."
"Is it really that rare? If I wanted one, couldn’t I just buy one?" Sloane asked.
"I fear it isn’t a matter of price but availability, you could spend years searching for this gem but might never come across it. Even the well connected Connoisseurs, experts, dealers and appraisers have a hard time locating them." Marcel explained.
"And you’re certain this isn’t a copy? It’s authentic?" Sloane inquired.
"Yes."
Her lips flattened into an interested grin, "I see." She closed the box and slipped the gem into her bag, then got up to leave.
"Mrs Grayson-"
"I’ll have my people bring the cash to your address. I trust you to keep this meeting between the both of us." She said, making for the door.
The helpless appraiser could only nod, "Yes, Mrs Grayson." And watch as she step out of his shop.
On her way out, Sloane couldn’t help but wonder, Joan’s words about the Rosamund family played on her mind.
In the car, she took out the gem and gave it another look, "I assume this belongs to Mallory." She thought aloud.
Rubbing her thumb against the surface she frowned, "But why would she of all people have something so valuable in her possession?"
