Chapter 197: His Or Luther’s

Julian had just arrived at the apartment, when he received the news of Cassie’s admission into the hospital. Of course, he tried to call Serena and get a rundown of the situation, but she wasn’t answering any of his calls.

And after some hours of worrying, he finally decided to go to the hospital.

Right as he was about to step out the door, he sighted Kayden come out of the house, draped in a thick heavy blanket, with his aunt Susan supporting him.

Mindlessly he made his way to them, "Why are you out so late? You’ll catch a cold-" he reached for his shoulder, but Kayden slapped his touch away.

"There is no need to act worried about me, you already forced me into coming here, the least you can do is stay out of my way." He hissed, then turned to leave.

Julian tried to stop him, but Susan shook her head dismissing the thought. She watched her brother’s helpless gaze, as Kayden made his way back inside and slammed the door behind him.

A heavy sigh escaped her brother’s lips, "What am I doing wrong Susan? I just can seem to get through to him."

Susan responded, "Give him some more time," she rested a hand on his shoulder, "For now, focus on finding my niece, I’ll handle Kayden."

Speaking of his daughter he pulled out his phone and showed Susan the articles catching her up to speed. After a few minutes of reading, Susan frowned.

"Brother, isn’t this too fishy? Serena’s daughter is such a big shot actress, so how could her brother not have found them for all these years?" she pointed out.

Passing his phone back she added, "I think we need to exercise some caution, as it stands, I think these siblings have an ulterior motive. This girl is currently engaged in such a huge pregnancy scandal, I don’t think it’s wise to step in."

Julian shook his head, "I think this is the perfect time. Amidst all this chaos, I can conduct a DNA test and know for certain if Cassie is mine or Luther’s daughter." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Susan raised an interested brow, "You already suspected something was off?"

He responded, "Cassie is Serena’s only child, but when I checked her information online, she’s was birthed years after I left Serena, she’s too young to be my daughter. The age doesn’t add up."

"That bastard brother! He must be playing you for a fool! What daughter? You may not even have had a kid with that woman in the first place!" she raised her voice, the realization hitting her just now.

For a brief half minute Julian pinched his chin, his mind humoring the idea. But he bit his lower lip, "I don’t know why, but there’s this unsettling feeling resting at the back of my mind. I can’t know for certain until I’ve tested her myself."

His eyes narrowed he said, "And if Scott and Serena were fooling me, I’ll make them suffer severely for it."

While they had this conversation, both parties were oblivious to Kayden, who stood at his door, listening in.

Cassie? He quickly took out his phone, considering she was involved in a major scandal, her name easily popped up on the search engine.

He tapped on the article about her then checked out suggested links, going down a rabbit hole about everything there was to know surrounding Cassie Crane.

His supposed younger sister...

B Staring at her phone, Brooke heaved a heavy sigh when she arrived at the location for the intimate scenes coordination. Naturally, she had taken off with just a text to her co-star, Dylan, stating she went out for a quick lunch.

She hadn’t anticipated for the hold up on the road on her way back which spun for nearly an hour.

By the time she arrived, not only did she get an earful from the scene coordinator, but the director had heard of her misconduct and immediately sent for her.

Standing outside his door, Brooke made countless possibilities of how the conversation would go in her mind.

He was already not fond of her, how would he react to this?

And she hadn’t even heard from Dylan, knowing that kid, he would’ve tattled to the director and fanned the flames.

Should she just grovel and waste no time with any explanations?

Her thoughts were cut off when the assistant director asked her to step inside.

She mouthed a thank you but he didn’t pay her any mind. Nervously, she walked into the room, and as expected, the director had a scowl on his face.

Immediately she lowered her head and kept her hands in front of her in a polite bow. "I deeply apologize for the misbehavior on my part today! I take full responsibility for delaying production!"

Director August folded his arms, they were at the office, and so was the rest of the staff. Brooke was shocked when she arrived to have met the cast having a barbecue meal, and wondered why no one was filming.

Answering her thoughts, the director sighed, "Should we just cancel production? Seeing as none of the main leads take this film seriously."

Brooke shook her head, "I am truly sorry, I had something important come up-"

"First, the president insists that we have production cut short to four months instead of six. Next, the staff is behind on set and costume design. To make matters worse, the male and female lead haven’t even acted in any scene! Hell, I’m not sure the female lead has shown up at all since filming started! And now..." he pointed his glare at Brooke.

"The second main leads should’ve started shooting scenes together by now. You two are both rookie actors, Sadie and Damien, no matter how arrogant they act, they have experience, they can work quickly under pressure. But you, have you even gotten down blocking? You haven’t filmed a single scene this entire time! The only person who shows up on set is Dylan, he’s the only one serious about this role. But look at what happened today, you ended up dragging him back!" he scolded, raising his voice.

"Today, the staff were so pissed off I had to call off filming and treat them to a meal, just to boost morale. Do you think you’re at Cassie’s level? That everyone will just bend to your whims?!" the director banged his fist against his desk, startling Brooke.

"I am sorry-"

The director hissed, he looked her in the eye and said, "Right now, the only reason I’m keeping you in this film is because the sponsor wants it that way. As it stands Brooke, I sense no future for you in this industry."

At this point, Brooke was already on the verge of tears, but she bit her cheeks and clenched her fists, holding back.

In a low bitter tone, the director mumbled, "Dylan doesn’t deserve even more suffering..."
