Chapter 178: Where Your Loyalties Lie

Although Hannah was around, Thane insisted on helping Brooke get ready for her day out, leaving Hannah and Gilbert downstairs. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

While in the elevator, Brooke constantly got flashbacks of last night, and the thing Thane wanted to try. She felt her cheeks burn at the memory and couldn’t meet his eyes.

Whereas, Thane could do anything but keep his eyes off Brooke. He inched closer and aimed to hold her hand, but the awkward ding sound of the elevator jolted them both into reality.

Brooke stepped out of the elevator first and made for their bedroom. Thane followed strictly and locked the door behind him, something he barely felt the need to do when with Brooke.

Hearing the door lock, Brooke’s heart skipped a beat. ’Last night you were brimming with so much confidence, why the hell are you quaking like this?’ she scolded herself while taking out a towel.

She heard Thane’s footsteps approaching and instantly froze up in place. And when his hand touched her shoulder, her body flinched.

Thane raised a brow, "Are you alright? You seem tensed." He asked, bringing his head down to the side of her face.

Brooke swallowed, "Yeah, I’m just nervous about filming." She deflected.

"Ah, that." Thane’s voice dropped, he had tried not to think about the script he read, but that seemed futile. His arms naturally wrapped themselves around Brooke’s waist, whilst his chin fell onto her shoulder.

"You have no reason to be worried, you’re going to do well. You’ve worked at that agency for years..." he was saying, unaware of how red Brooke’s face had turned.

His warmth against her skin made her body quake underneath his touch and she felt hot in-between her legs. She wanted to turn around and look at him, and see if he felt the same way.

But her phone rang from on top the bed. Quickly, she made a dash for it, just to see that it was Sadie calling. She picked up her phone and brought it to her ear, "I just got the information that filming’s been shifted-" she was saying only for Sadie to interject.

"Did you see the news?!" She cried out.

Brooke looked over her shoulder at Thane, who shared the same look of confusion on his face. She switched the call to speaker phone then asked, "What news?"

Sadie exasperatedly announced, "The one about Cassie’s sponsor, Ethan Halton!"

Ethan? Brooke felt sick hearing the name.

"What happened to him?" She asked, it had been a while since she heard anything about her past, she had been too occupied with her husband and with her new career to pay them any attention.

"I’m sending you the link right now." Sadie said, then proceeded to send the link to an account that had a live video saved and the entire situation analysed.

Brooke signalled Thane over as she tapped on the link, he stood next to her and peered over at the screen, watching what turned out to be a huge scandal!

"What the hell is this woman doing?!" Luther raised his voice, he had just watched the live that Serena had hosted and was stunned out of his mind. He looked at his benefactor who had the decency to keep him in the loop of everything happening.

"I need to get out of here! I can’t sit around all day and wait, that woman is going to ruin everything I’ve worked hard for!" Luther spat out.

His companion shook his head, "I’m afraid that is already happening. People online have already started to question who could be the alleged wife and child that Ethan is hiding. And as it stands, a lot of people speculate that it might be your daughter."

Luther slapped himself, hoping he would wake up from the awful dream, but he hadn’t moved an inch and was still in the shitty situation.

His benefactor went on, "My employer has stated that she is having wavering thoughts with carrying on with her endorsement. She wanted Cassie because she was certain she could make us money, but an actress involved with a scandal this big could ruin her reputation."

Hearing this, Luther immediately took to begging. "My wife is an idiot, but she’s easy to manipulate. I’ll go see her and make her take back her statement. I’ll make sure Cassie is cleared of all the accusations."

"Can you really do that? Do you think people will a hundred percent believe any statement that comes out? My employer can’t operate without a complete hundred percent guarantee." He pointed out.

"What do you want me to say?! I can’t make any moves from here, if only you didn’t keep me here then I might’ve been able to see this coming and prevented it!" Luther scolded.

A laugh escaped the other man’s mouth. "How ungrateful. Maybe my boss should’ve acted like Ethan and abandoned you. Let’s see if you could survive on your own. Don’t forget Luther, you are a criminal, nothing more, nothing less. If my boss lets go of you, your entire life will be ruined."

His words were like a splash of cold water to Luther’s face. He immediately regained his composure and sat on the bed.

"I’m sorry, it’s just...I can’t believe how foolish that woman is. I have to leave here and make things right, one way or the other." He said, his voice mellowed.

After a half minute of silence his benefactor declared, "My employer is willing to lend you a hand if you agree to choose sides completely."

Luther raised his head. "What do you mean?"

"We’re not stupid Luther, anyone can see that you’re just using us because it’s convenient for you. Your loyalty still lies with Ethan Halton. My boss will help you, with the charges against you and with everything else, only if you completely abandon Mr Halton."

"How?" Luther asked, his suspicions raised.

His benafactor retorted with a full grin, "Why don’t you start by exposing another one of Ethan’s secrets?"
