Having said that, he thought for a moment and patted her shoulder with his hand.
After his pat, Maya Leaf looked at the scales on her hand, seemed to come to an understanding, and put them away in her brocade pouch without further hesitation.
“I am deeply grateful, Brother Logan’s kindness will not be forgotten,” she said. “I’ll definitely repay it if I have the chance in the future. You’re right, Brother Logan, hesitating and dithering is not befitting of a woman who roams the martial world. As such, let’s get moving!”
Logan was quite relieved to see her so free-spirited and open-minded. He didn’t want to make more of the issue over some Flood Dragon Scales, so the two tacitly stopped pushing it back and forth and no longer mentioned it, instead, they hastened on their way together.
Out of gratitude for Logan’s previous kindness, Maya Leaf took great care of him along the way, being exceedingly diligent and considerate. In a moment, they had reached a Poisonous Rampart Land.
“There’s no way around this place, so it seems we must break through,” he said.
...
Maya Leaf nodded solemnly, her eyes tinged with worry.
Poison, in these wild hills and forests, is the greatest harm, but avoiding this path might mean missing out on an even greater opportunity.
They decided to cross the Poisonous Rampart, but Logan was caught off guard because he wasn’t familiar with the terrain and got wounded by a venomous thorn, which cut his arm. The poison was fierce, surging through his Blood Qi instantly. In just a moment, his entire arm had turned black and blue.
Maya Leaf swiftly took his arm and rolled up his sleeve, shrinking in shock at the sight.
“Oh heavens, Brother Logan, how could this happen? You’re injured, and the poison is spreading too fast. This place truly deserves its name as the Venomous Miasma Land,” she exclaimed.
While speaking, she took out all the Herbal Medicine she had to treat him.
“Brother Logan, don’t move. This poison is very serious. If you stir, it might spread everywhere. I’ll figure something out for you,” she said.
Logan’s lips had turned blue as well, but his gaze still shone with spirit, seemingly unfazed by his predicament.
“It’s nothing, just a minor injury. I have medicine that can cure all poisons,” he assured her.
Upon hearing this, Maya Leaf couldn’t help but glower at him, frustrated.
“Brother Logan, how can you say something so irresponsible?” she chided. “You must not understand the danger of the Poisonous Rampart Land, to think that a pill for ordinary poison could counteract this. This isn’t just any poison; it’s a toxic miasma that can kill if one is not careful.”
“See, even your lips are turning pale, and you still want to act tough. Antidote pills won’t work; the effects are not the same,” she continued.
While talking, Maya Leaf took out some medicinal herbs from her bag, including some particularly good Spirit Grass, but they could only offer suppression, not cure.
Now in the Secret Land and some time away from the exit, mere suppression might lead to a prolonged situation. Who knew when it would end?
With this in mind, Maya Leaf began to feel anxious. Seeing Logan’s complexion growing paler, her heart fluttered, and she was struck with an idea.
“Brother Logan, in this pressing situation, there may only be one solution,” she stated.
As she spoke, she had already drawn a small knife from her sleeve, seemingly resolute.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
Logan had a fundamental trust in her and didn’t believe she intended to use the knife on him. Indeed, it wasn’t for him, as she turned it upon herself.
Maya Leaf gritted her teeth and sliced a wound onto her own wrist.
“Don’t!”
Logan quickly reached out to stop her, but it was already too late.
Blood flowed down her wrist into a small bowl she had taken out, collecting her fresh blood.
After gathering some blood, she immediately fed it to Logan.
“Brother Logan, it seems that the secret I’ve hidden for many years must be revealed before you after all. In truth, I am a Medicine Person, my body is my blood, which can neutralize all kinds of poison mists, including miasmas. As long as the poison isn’t extremely rare, I can typically neutralize it. Just drink this, and you’ll recover quickly,” she disclosed.
Logan looked at her intently and then, with gritted teeth, drank it down.
After drinking her blood, he found that his condition had indeed improved a bit, and the pale complexion on his face finally eased somewhat.
“That’s great, Brother Logan.”
But as he looked at Maya Leaf’s slightly pale complexion, he felt a hint of discomfort.
“Alright, Maya Leaf, you mustn’t exert yourself, let’s find a place to rest.”
Realizing her own weakness, Maya Leaf did not insist on pushing herself. Continuing the journey with such a frail body would only slow them down.
Additionally, since Logan had just detoxified, he truly needed some rest as well, so the two of them quickly found a place to settle down.
By nightfall, the two had lit a campfire in a cave. Having had her blood drawn earlier, Maya Leaf’s defenses were down, and as the evening cooled, she couldn’t help but start coughing.
Seeing this, Logan, aware that he was partly to blame, moved forward with concern.
“Are you alright? Your health wouldn’t have deteriorated like this if you hadn’t saved me. Sit tight, I’ll help you harness spiritual energy to recuperate.”
“This, how can I impose, Brother Logan? You needn’t worry so much, it’s just a small problem, I’ll be fine soon.”
“Sit down.”
Logan pursed his thin lips and finally issued the order with a touch of authority.
Unable to argue with him, Maya Leaf had no choice but to obediently sit on the ground. Then, Logan’s hands began to gather a warm energy, which he transferred to Maya Leaf through their touching skin.
Soon, Maya Leaf didn’t feel cold anymore and even felt a rush of warmth. The paleness on her face eased considerably, and she gained a bit of color.
The discomfort in her expression turned to comfort, and the corners of her mouth unconsciously curled into a slight smile. Clearly, she was satisfied and comfortable with the warmth.
“I’m feeling much better already, thank you, Brother Logan. Your abilities are truly profound. With you channelling energy into me like that, I’m not cold at all now.”
“That’s good.”
Logan’s face remained impassive, but he was indeed more relaxed.
As Maya Leaf watched him, she lifted her gaze to look at him and, for some reason, suddenly felt shy. She quickly lowered her head as a flush of warmth rose to her face, realizing she felt her heart pounding.
Their relationship had grown much closer, yet Little White suddenly seemed to dislike Maya Leaf.
It didn’t want her to hold it, or accept food from her, and it even ignored her calling its name, showing her no attention at all.
This made Maya Leaf feel a bit embarrassed.
“I don’t know what I’ve done to upset Little White, but it seems to be ignoring me a lot lately.”
The truth was, Logan felt a bit embarrassed as well because he knew the real reason. It was likely that Maya Leaf’s closeness with him was making Little White jealous.
Little White had always been very close to him and didn’t like others getting close to him. It was sulking now. Though he noticed it, Logan found it difficult to deal with such matters. Caught between a fox and a human, he felt very helpless.
As they passed by a cliff, the two were about to take a detour.
However, Logan, whether intuitively or not, peered over the edge of the cliff.
With that glance, he accidently discovered a weak yellow chrysanthemum with no spiritual power at all growing on the steep cliff wall. Seeing that chrysanthemum, he raised his eyebrows in surprise.
“Strange, come and take a look. There’s a small yellow chrysanthemum growing on this cliff face, and it has no spiritual energy whatsoever. It’s odd that such an ordinary flower is thriving in this dangerous place under harsh conditions. It’s quite interesting.”
Upon hearing this, Maya Leaf also became curious and stepped forward to have a look.
When she saw the yellow chrysanthemum, she too gave a soft exclamation of surprise.
“Exactly, the Secret Land is rich in spiritual energy, and nearly all plants contain it, but this little yellow chrysanthemum has no spiritual energy at all. It’s one thing for it to be an ordinary flower, but to grow on such a precipice without any spiritual energy to nourish it is indeed quite rare.”
