Deities Are All Just My Food-Chapter 2284 - 1021: Midnight Nightmare!
After leaving the bustling small town and entering the mountains, Goto Mariko became much quieter. Once they entered the village, she simply stopped speaking altogether.
When Lin Baici asked her something, she would either just say "hmm" or nod and shake her head.
To Lin Baici, it felt like talking to an emotionless puppet.
Goto Mariko was very respectful to her mother, but there seemed to be something strange about the atmosphere in this house, and Lin Baici could clearly sense that they weren’t welcoming him.
In reality, if Lin Baici encountered such cold treatment, he would definitely leave immediately, but here, amidst rule pollution, he had to prioritize the bigger picture.
There was a lot of land in the village, and houses could be built freely, so every household lived in those two-story single-family homes.
After Lin Baici met Goto Mariko’s mother, she led him upstairs as they stepped on the wooden floorboards.
Goto Mariko opened a bedroom door, took out a set of bedding from the closet, and laid it on the floor.
There was no need to ask; this was where Lin Baici was to temporarily stay.
Lin Baici scratched his head, showing an expression of wanting to ask but feeling embarrassed to do so.
After making the bed, Goto Mariko knelt on the floor and formally bowed to Lin Baici, apologizing, "Lord Lin, if you like me, please endure it for the sake of our future!"
"Hmm!"
Lin Baici didn’t ask how long he had to endure. Since he was already here, he was determined to solve this rule pollution problem; even if Goto Mariko drove him away afterward, he wouldn’t leave,
"At most two days!"
After Goto Mariko said this, she bowed again: "You’ve traveled all day, you must be tired. Please rest for a while, and I’ll go help my mother prepare dinner!"
Goto Mariko left and thoughtfully closed the door.
Lin Baici walked to the window.
Because it was on the second floor, he had a bird’s-eye view and could see part of the street and the courtyard next door.
The entire small town was eerily silent, like a cemetery after midnight.
Lin Baici abandoned the idea of sneaking out to check the surroundings. It would be troublesome if he got caught.
He decided to stay put for now and start by examining Mariko’s home!
With nothing to do, Lin Baici lay on the bedding in a daze, not knowing how much time had passed. When he turned his head to look at the door, he suddenly saw a crack in the door.
An eye was peeking through the crack, watching him.
"Damn..."
Even though Lin Baici was quite brave, this startled him.
He prided himself on having sharp senses, believing nothing could escape his notice, but now, someone was outside the door watching him.
Lin Baici hadn’t realized when the person had arrived; if they had tried to sneak up on him, he would have definitely suffered.
Once the person realized they had been discovered, they didn’t hide and swiftly pulled open the door.
It turned out to be Goto Mariko’s younger sister!
The little girl, about eight or nine years old.
The little girl walked over, squatted beside Lin Baici, and blinked her eyes, looking him over from head to toe, then back up again: "Is someone like you a man?"
This little girl could actually speak Japanese.
Lin Baici’s heart skipped a beat, and he cautiously asked, "Haven’t you seen your father?"
"What’s a father?"
The little girl asked back.
"Damn!"
Lin Baici’s expression remained unchanged, but his heart gave a thump.
Goodness, not knowing what a father is, this village is visibly strange.
"You really do look different from me!"
The little girl’s gaze shifted from scrutinizing to excitement, and she reached out to tug on Lin Baici’s clothes, muttering, "Can I see inside you?"
Lin Baici quickly pressed down on his clothes, feeling speechless.
Was he really being toyed with?
"Be good, and I’ll give you some candy!"
The little girl said as she began pulling harder on Lin Baici’s clothes.
Of course, Lin Baici refused.
This angered the little girl, and her expression turned suddenly cold as she raised her hand to slap Lin Baici across the face.
Slap!
Lin Baici caught the little girl’s hand, his expression turning cold.
"I am your sister’s guest!"
Lin Baici stared at the little girl.
"Mashu, where did you run off to?"
Goto Mariko’s mother’s shout came from downstairs.
The little girl glared at Lin Baici and forcefully shook her hand out of his grip.
Lin Baici let go.
"Hmph!"
The little girl got to her feet, stomping her little legs as she walked out. When she reached the door, she stopped again: "You misunderstood something!"
"My sister’s guest is also my and my mother’s guest, and moreover, a guest to the aunties in the village!"
The little girl left, and Lin Baici’s frown deepened.
What did she mean by that?
Shared friends?
And why did she only mention the aunties? 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
What about their husbands and sons?
This little girl was about eight or nine, she couldn’t possibly have never seen a man since she was born, right?
By the way,
Didn’t she go to school?
The sun set, hidden behind the mountains, and when night fell, Goto Mariko came up.
"Lord Lin, dinner is ready!"
Lin Baici followed her downstairs.
Mariko’s family’s living room and dining room were combined.
Lin Baici saw a long table with six dishes on it, exuding a tempting aroma.
The plates weren’t large, but the portions weren’t big; one could say it was quite sumptuous.
Lin Baici washed his hands and took a seat.
Goto Mariko’s mother, named Goto Lei, placed a white porcelain wine cup in front of Lin Baici, then picked up a bottle of sake, ready to pour him some.
"Auntie, I don’t drink!"
Lin Baici hurriedly declined.
Goto Lei ignored him and filled the cup for Lin Baici.
"The mountain is very damp; if you don’t drink some wine, you’ll feel very uncomfortable!"
The little girl explained with a grin.
"Thank you."
Lin Baici outwardly expressed his gratitude while inwardly sneering; if he drank this wine, he feared he might be done for.
[Go ahead, drink it, it’s fine!]
With this comment from the Eater God, Lin Baici felt reassured and thanked Goto Lei once more.
