Days of Living with My Sister-in-Law-Chapter 262: The Cargo
Standing outside the main hall, Xiaobei was puzzled. He pondered for quite some time, only to realize that he could see these ghosts but still couldn’t communicate with them.
Moreover, he was extremely worried about Zhang Yingying’s safety and had no time to waste here. Once he noticed that the only part of the temple that was lit was a distant side room, he quietly made his way over there.
Soon, Xiaobei arrived near a corner not far from the side room.
It was eerily quiet at night, and the two guards at the door, cloaked in darkness, looked like sculptures—they didn’t move at all!
Inside the side room, only a weak candle flickered. Although Xiaobei’s Nine Nether Eyes could see through objects, his night vision was still poor and he couldn’t make out the environment inside clearly.
But it was clear that with two guards at the door, there must be something or someone important inside the room.
Just then, one of the guards finally couldn’t hold it any longer and shifted, saying,
"Damn! It’s supposed to be hot, yet it’s freezing cold in this spooky place! Old Wang, when the hell are they coming to pick up the goods?"
"If they don’t come all night, are we really going to stand here till dawn?"
"Do you feel it? I keep feeling like there’s a pair of eyes watching us. Could it be something dirty?"
"Alright, stop whining already!"
Old Wang next to him lit a cigarette and said, "I don’t know when they’ll come for the goods, but the superiors made it clear that the goods are very important, and we must exchange codes face-to-face to hand them over."
"In short, don’t screw it up, or we’ll have to take the fall with our lives!"
At this, Old Zhou glanced curiously into the room and asked in a low voice, "Hey, Old Wang, what exactly is in that box?"
"Could it be some treasure? You’ve been with the superiors longer than I have. What exactly does our organization do?"
"We nap during the day and are more awake than night owls at night!"
Old Wang got angry and shouted, "Alright, don’t ask what you’re not supposed to. Frankly, I don’t know much either. All I know is that we’re part of a very large organization. Just keep your mouth shut and do your work, and you’ll be rewarded!"
"Anyway, I’m going to the bathroom. Keep watch for me."
With that, Old Wang turned around and left.
Xiaobei followed immediately, seeing Old Wang loosen his belt to relieve himself, Xiaobei suddenly pressed a dagger to his throat.
"It’s best not to move!"
Old Wang was startled and instinctively reached for his gun, but Xiaobei made a swift cut, and blood started gushing from Old Wang’s throat.
"I said, don’t move, or next time I’ll slit your throat completely!"
"Boss, I-I won’t move, I won’t move. Calm down, let’s talk this over!"
Old Wang completely behaved himself, instinctively raising his hands.
Xiaobei asked bluntly, "Who are you people? What are you doing here in the middle of the night?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Old Wang quickly replied, "Boss, we’re just a bunch of workers following orders to watch the goods here, and then we leave after the trade. That’s all!"
"What damn superiors, stop with the nonsense. What organization are you with? Who’s in charge, and what’s in that goods?"
Xiaobei applied more pressure.
"Boss, calm down! I don’t know what organization we’re with. I just know we’re working for someone called the Superior. He tells us to bring goods to various locations to meet people, and then we return with the goods to him, and he splits the money with us, that’s all!"
"As for who the Superior is, I can only say he’s a very ordinary man, nothing remarkable. And as for the goods, I honestly don’t know what they are. The Superior makes it clear that we’re absolutely not allowed to look inside, or it’s a death sentence!"
"But I’m always curious in that brief period before each trade. Although I’ve never opened the box, I can clearly feel it moving. It should be some kind of living thing, right?"
"Boss, I’ve told you everything I know. Please, spare me!"
Old Wang started to tremble.
No choice!
He wasn’t a Martial Artist, and his gun had been confiscated by Xiaobei. It would be strange if he wasn’t scared.
Xiaobei asked again, "Right, when did you arrive at this place? Did your Superior drive a black Jeep? Did he just leave?"
"Yes, yes, yes!"
Old Wang nodded and said, "Originally, the Superior was supposed to lead this trade personally, but he suddenly got a call and left by himself."
"He didn’t say anything, just told us to wait here until the trading partner arrives."
"Who exactly are you trading with?"
Xiaobei continued to ask.
Old Wang said, "I don’t know, but we have a code. We always trade this way!"
"As for when we arrived, I can only say that we entered the temple after sunset!"
"Just arrived not long ago?"
Xiaobei’s frown deepened, "When you arrived, did you see anyone else? Did you see a group of girls being held here?"
"No, no."
Old Wang said, "This temple has been abandoned for two years now. There’s not even a shadow nearby, let alone any girls!"
"So that’s how it is..."
Xiaobei frowned, unable to understand why Qin Shihua gave him such an odd clue.
Logically speaking, as the eldest daughter of the Qin Family, she had no need to play a trick on Xiaobei. There might be something else going on here.
But Xiaobei couldn’t figure it out, nor was he in the mood to.
Seeing that he couldn’t get anything more out of Old Wang, he simply slit Old Wang’s throat!
Immediately, Xiaobei leaped out and sent Old Zhou to meet his end as well.
While standing outside the room, despite the darkness inside, Xiaobei could roughly make out the environment.
He saw a very large box placed on the ground inside the room, its exterior wrapped in a layer of leather, looking very exquisite.
Just then!
Thud thud—
The previously still box suddenly moved slightly.
"What is that?"
Xiaobei was curious.
Since there was no electricity in the room, only relying on the faint candlelight, even with his ability to see through objects, Xiaobei still couldn’t determine what was inside the box!
But it was clear that it seemed to be a living thing, and judging by the size of the box, it was likely a person!
"Why would someone be confined in a box? And they even referred to it as ’goods’?"
Xiaobei’s curiosity grew.
He walked up to the box and noticed a large padlock hanging on it, without thinking, he slashed the lock open.
Immediately after, Xiaobei lifted the lid of the box!
The next second, Xiaobei was dumbfounded...
