Days of Living with My Sister-in-Law-Chapter 125 Qingyang Five Tigers
"You—" Murong Xiaoyi was so infuriated she could barely breathe.
I have to admit, however, that Chen Xiaobei has no reason to help me, especially since I just tried to kill him. Even so, was there a need to be so blunt? You’re a man, for heaven’s sake! Can’t you show a little gentlemanly conduct?
Seeing the tension, Luo Wentian quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "Alright, Xiaoyi, this isn’t Xiaobei’s fault. But Xiaobei isn’t a heartless person, either. If you apologize to him properly later, I believe he’ll help you."
"Speaking of which, today is truly a fine day. It’s rare to have such a lively gathering. Everyone, stay for lunch. Murong Qi, you stay as well."
"Okay, okay, Grand-uncle," Murong Qi nodded repeatedly.
He was now thoroughly intimidated by Chen Xiaobei. Since Luo Wentian had given him a way to save face, he would have to toast Chen Xiaobei a couple of times, no matter what.
A toast is just a toast, though. In my heart, I hate Chen Xiaobei’s guts. The moment I get a chance, I have to get even. For now, I’ll just bide my time.
Soon, the servants had prepared a sumptuous lunch in the living room.
"Xiaobei, come, come, take the seat of honor," Luo Wentian said with a smile, pulling Chen Xiaobei by the hand. "I haven’t had a proper chance to treat you to a meal since you saved me and Qingcheng. Today, we must have a few drinks together."
He was treating him no differently than he would his own grandson-in-law.
Though Chen Xiaobei had thick skin, he still felt a bit flustered and said awkwardly, "Grandpa, you’re too kind. It was merely fate. Besides, you’re the host, so how could I, a guest, steal the spotlight? Please, you take your seat first."
This response greatly pleased Luo Wentian. "In that case," he chuckled, "I’ll sit. Qingcheng, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and sit next to Xiaobei."
"Oh—" Luo Qingcheng blushed and obediently sat down beside Chen Xiaobei.
This scene nearly made Murong Xiaoyi die from anger. She had wanted to sit next to Luo Qingcheng, but now she had to sit beside Murong Qi.
At that moment, Luo Wentian raised his glass. "Come, let’s all raise a glass to Xiaobei. Especially you, Qingcheng. If it weren’t for Xiaobei these past few times, we’d both have been done for. Today, you must drink a few rounds with him and keep him company, do you hear me?"
"I understand, Grandpa." Luo Qingcheng nodded and raised her glass. "Thank you!"
"No need for formalities between us!" Chen Xiaobei shrugged and drained his glass in one gulp.
"Hey! Why did you drink so fast?" Luo Qingcheng was left speechless.
She didn’t enjoy drinking, but since it was her first time clinking glasses with Chen Xiaobei, she had no choice but to down her drink as well.
COUGH! COUGH! COUGH!
The strong liquor instantly sent Luo Qingcheng into a violent coughing fit, making her eyes water.
"Are you alright?" Chen Xiaobei quickly patted her back.
"I’m... I’m fine." Luo Qingcheng waved her hand, not resisting his concern in the slightest. In fact, a sweet feeling blossomed in her heart.
But the thought of what a scumbag he was soured her mood, and she felt like crying all over again.
Watching this exchange, a gratified smile touched Luo Wentian’s lips.
He had long known about Chen Xiaobei’s ’problem’ from his granddaughter. Initially, he had been a bit displeased, but considering Chen Xiaobei’s status, Luo Wentian didn’t think it was a major issue. After all, their Sect Leader back in the day had dozens of wives, and didn’t they all get along harmoniously? A top-tier Martial Artist like Chen Xiaobei would never lack for women. As his Realm continued to advance, a single woman would not be enough to satisfy him. It was a pity his granddaughter was so stubborn and refused to listen to reason. But seeing them now, it looked like Luo Qingcheng and Chen Xiaobei were getting along quite well. It probably wouldn’t be long before she willingly broke through her own mental barriers.
The thought put Luo Wentian in an excellent mood. "By the way, Xiaobei," he said, "how is the company you and Qingcheng started doing?"
"It’s doing well," Chen Xiaobei replied. "We just finished registering it today. As soon as the factory is built, we can begin production immediately."
"But Qingcheng did all the work. I’m just a hands-off boss."
"Don’t talk nonsense!" Luo Qingcheng shot him a look, her pretty face flushed.
What ’hands-off boss’? Our relationship hasn’t even gotten off the ground, yet he’s talking as if we’re already family. How shameless!
With that thought, Luo Qingcheng lifted her foot and stomped on Chen Xiaobei’s under the table.
But the move backfired completely. Chen Xiaobei simply pressed his hand down on her thigh, pinning her so she couldn’t lift her foot at all.
Luo Qingcheng didn’t dare say a word and could only endure it in silence, feeling utterly exasperated.
Just then, Murong Xiaoyi raised her glass, grumbling resentfully, "Hey, I’ll toast you too. I was wrong earlier, but I’m truly worried about my master. I hope you’ll help her, for my cousin’s sake!"
With that, the girl downed her glass of wine without so much as blushing, displaying the forthrightness of a heroine.
"Alright. I’ll look into it when I have time," Chen Xiaobei replied with an indifferent shrug.
His gaze then shifted to the most awkward person at the table, Murong Qi. "By the way, this Songshan Commerce Association of yours, how many people are in it?"
"Who are they? Tell me about them."
"The Songshan Commerce Association consists of us, the Qingyang Five Tigers," Murong Qi answered honestly. "That’s me, Zhong Mingxuan from the Zhong Family, Mo Zifeng from the Mo Family, Su Taizao from the Su Family, and An Zhiwen from the An Family."
Murong Xiaoyi snorted. "What ’Qingyang Five Tigers’? You’re just a bunch of spoiled brats who use your prominent family backgrounds to bully people. Aren’t you ashamed to even say that name out loud?"
Chen Xiaobei asked curiously, "This Zhong Mingxuan you mentioned, what’s his relationship to Zhong Wannian?"
"He’s Zhong Wannian’s grandson, and he’s the leader of our group of five. He was the one who founded the Songshan Commerce Association." Murong Qi asked cautiously, "Brother Chen, my brother Mingxuan hasn’t provoked you too, has he?"
"No, just curious," Chen Xiaobei said, shaking his head.
Although these so-called Qingyang Five Tigers were all spoiled brats, there was no denying their families were among the most powerful in Qingyang. If he could make these five submit to him, it would be equivalent to indirectly controlling eighty percent of the power in Qingyang.
Thinking this, he said, "How about this: when you have the chance, gather those guys together. I want to meet them. I’ve always enjoyed making friends. I hope all of you will keep your eyes open and understand who you can’t afford to provoke. An opportunity like this is fleeting, so you’d best seize it. Understood?"
At that moment, Chen Xiaobei’s aura was incredibly imperious, like that of a high and mighty king.
Murong Qi nodded quickly. "Brother Chen, our families are just too strict, so we’re trying to make some money out here. We would never dare to provoke you."
"Rest assured, I will definitely bring them to meet you when I get the chance. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be taking my leave!"
After speaking, Murong Qi turned and fled the villa. As the Princely Heir of the Murong Family, he was accustomed to arrogance. When had he ever felt so suffocated? If he stayed a moment longer, he felt he would die.
Watching him leave, Luo Qingcheng warned, "Xiaobei, I know what you’re thinking, but those Qingyang Five Tigers are not good people. You have to be extremely careful."
"I understand." Chen Xiaobei smiled faintly. "In any case, I’ve given them their chance. If they fail to seize it, they’ll have only their fate to blame!"
"You... Can you stop being so arrogant! Did you even hear what I said?" Luo Qingcheng was so furious her chest heaved.
"Qingcheng, it’s good for a young man to have ambition, and Xiaobei certainly has the ability to back it up!"
"But, Xiaobei!" Luo Wentian’s tone suddenly turned grave. "Grandpa must warn you. It doesn’t matter if you’re in Qingyang or here in our little Songshan; you can provoke anyone you like. There is, however, one family you must absolutely, under no circumstances, cross!"
Chen Xiaobei paused. "Who?"
Luo Wentian said, "The Zhao Family here in Songshan!"
