Days of Living with My Sister-in-Law-Chapter 115 Xin Xin Calls Dad
Clutching his sister-in-law’s slender waist, Chen Xiaobei moved upwards, his hands naturally finding her full breasts. "Sister-in-law, I’ve missed you so much!"
But suddenly, a soft sobbing sound reached his ears. Listening closely, Chen Xiaobei realized that she was actually crying. It was obvious she had been crying for some time; a patch of the pillow was soaked through.
"Sister-in-law, what’s wrong?" Chen Xiaobei was genuinely baffled and hurried to get up and turn on the light.
"Xiaobei, don’t!" Shen Jiawen quickly turned and grabbed his hand. "Please, don’t turn on the light," she pleaded. "I... I don’t want you to see me like this."
Chen Xiaobei quickly caressed her cheek and comforted her. "Alright, I won’t. But you have to tell me, what’s really the matter?"
"I was so worried about you," Shen Jiawen sobbed. "I-I’m fine, it’s just... I just feel awful!"
"Awful?" Chen Xiaobei was speechless. "But why? Things are finally looking up for our family. What’s there to feel awful about?"
"Tell me the truth, is it because of Luo Qingcheng? If it is, I’ll make her leave tomorrow. I won’t let her disturb your life!"
"No, Xiaobei, it has nothing to do with Boss Luo. The problem is me," Shen Jiawen said, hurriedly shaking her head. She struggled to get the words out. "I’m... I’m just scared. Scared that one day I might... might lose you!"
"Oh, Xiaobei, I’m just so scared!" With that, she lunged forward and burrowed into his arms.
"Er—" Chen Xiaobei was utterly bewildered. "How could you possibly lose me? Don’t scare yourself like this."
"No, I’m not making it up!" Shen Jiawen grew even more sorrowful, mustering her courage. "I’m just an ordinary village woman. Besides cooking, I can’t do anything else. But I’m not stupid. I know that both Qiu Xingcai and Luo Qingcheng have feelings for you.
"Compared to them, what am I?
"Xiaobei! I know you have a place for me in your heart, but I can’t be so selfish. It would be a thousand times better for you to choose either Qiu Xingcai or Luo Qingcheng!
"In front of them, I... I don’t stand a chance. I really don’t."
As she spoke, her pain intensified, her nails digging into Chen Xiaobei’s flesh.
Chen Xiaobei’s mind reeled. He had never imagined this was the reason for her sorrow, and he felt a surge of guilt. After all, for the sake of his cultivation, he hadn’t been emotionally faithful. It was clear now that Shen Jiawen was a very traditional woman who had no idea what a scoundrel he was becoming. This made the problem much more serious.
If he told her the truth, her personality was such that she would be devastated. But if he chose to lie, he felt it would be unfair to the other women in his life. He was already enough of a scoundrel. If he couldn’t even grant them that small acknowledgment, could he still call himself human?
Damn it, what the hell am I supposed to do? Chen Xiaobei was completely torn.
Just then, perhaps startled by her mother’s sobs, Xin Xin also began to cry. Shen Jiawen had no choice but to pick up her daughter, expose a tender nipple, and begin nursing. She deliberately turned her back, sealing off her heart just as Chen Xiaobei once had.
"Xiaobei," she said, her voice distant, "I know you’ve been very good to me, but for the sake of your future, I’m truly not your best choice.
"You should go. For the rest of your life, no matter who you choose, I will wish you well."
A dam broke inside Chen Xiaobei, and tears streamed down his face. He lunged from behind to hug her tightly. "No, I’m not leaving! Sister-in-law, you’ve misunderstood! I... I love you!
"If it comes to it, I’ll have Qingcheng and the others leave tomorrow. We can live a good life even without starting the business.
"I can’t lose you. I really can’t!"
"Xiaobei, don’t be so foolish." Amid her sobs, Shen Jiawen actually managed a small, sad chuckle. "You have such a long road ahead of you. Don’t throw away your bright future because of me.
"Besides, you promised the villagers you’d lead them to prosperity. How can you go back on your word?"
"I don’t care!" Chen Xiaobei shook his head desperately. "If the path I choose means you’ll leave me, then I’d rather do nothing at all! Sister-in-law, I love you, and I love our Xin Xin. I... I really can’t lose you!"
At that moment, gazing at his sister-in-law’s tear-filled, captivating eyes, Chen Xiaobei desperately wanted to kiss her. Unfortunately, Xin Xin was wide awake now, her little eyes blinking at him repeatedly, leaving him both speechless and miserable.
And just at that moment, Xin Xin suddenly spoke. "Da... Da... Daddy..."
Though the sounds were slurred, that tender, childlike voice pierced Chen Xiaobei’s anguished heart like a needle.
"Sister-in-law, did you hear? Xin Xin... she called me Daddy! Hahaha!" Overcome with joy, he cried, "Good girl, Xin Xin! Say ’Daddy’ again! Haha!" Tears streamed down his face as he pulled Xin Xin into a tight embrace.
As for Shen Jiawen, her mind went completely blank. She had just resolved to cut ties with Chen Xiaobei completely, but her daughter’s cry of "Daddy" struck her like a nuclear bomb, shattering her resolve instantly.
"Xiaobei... Xin Xin..." Her lips quivered as she threw herself into his arms.
This was rather hard on poor Xin Xin, however, who was nearly smothered by her mother’s bosom and began crying, "WAH! WAH! WAH!"
Chen Xiaobei quickly shifted the baby to his other arm while embracing his sister-in-law’s soft body. "Don’t dwell on those needless worries," he comforted her. "In this whole world, who has a better right to be Xin Xin’s father than me?
"Besides, none of those things you’re worried about are problems at all! In my heart, you, Shen Jiawen, will always be the most beautiful goddess! You’re not the least bit inferior to Qiu Xingcai or Luo Qingcheng, you know? So all those things you were thinking are just ridiculous!"
"You... stop talking!" Shen Jiawen’s cheeks flushed scarlet, and she was mortified. Still, she had to admit that her daughter’s "Daddy" had been a divine assist. Without Xin Xin’s intervention, she might never have been able to overcome this impasse.
However, though the impasse was broken, her worries remained. Having little education and being a woman from the countryside, Shen Jiawen felt deeply inferior in front of people like Luo Qingcheng. It was only natural for her to feel insecure in this flashy, materialistic world. Thinking of this, she sighed. "Xiaobei, can you... can you give me some time?"
"Huh?" Chen Xiaobei was at a loss. Luo Qingcheng had just said the exact same thing, and now his sister-in-law was echoing her. At this rate, it would take an eternity to truly win her over. But how could he refuse? Having just managed to pacify her, he could only nod. "Alright. What is it you want to say?"
"It’s nothing! Just... give me some time!" she said. "I won’t give up on you again, but I don’t want us to get together just like this. You... you should go now." With that, Shen Jiawen began to push him out of the room.
"Alright, don’t get upset. I’m going, okay?" Chen Xiaobei had no choice but to retreat to his own room.
Reflecting on his disastrous love life, Chen Xiaobei felt a pang of envy for his cat, Xiao Hua. Speaking of getting some action, how does that tomcat manage to make all the female cats so completely devoted to him?
Ugh, I’m not going to think about it! The most important thing right now is to raise my strength. And while I’m at it, I’d better get some decent Martial Techniques. Otherwise, I’ll have a hard time defending myself the next time I face a stronger enemy! The thought alone made Chen Xiaobei fume.
His Nine Heavens Demon-Vanquishing Technique was already at the second layer, but besides the Seven Star Tian Gang Step, he didn’t have a single decent Martial Technique. He couldn’t help but feel that Xi Yao was holding out on him. If not for this, he wouldn’t have been so embarrassingly outmatched in his fight against Murong Xiaoyi tonight.
Since his sister-in-law wasn’t letting him get any, Chen Xiaobei started up his trishaw and drove straight to the riverside. Tonight, no matter what, he was going to get some Martial Techniques out of Xi Yao
