Danmachi: Is It Wrong to Be the Main Character in Orario?-Chapter 840: Floor 90
The projection flickered to life.
A girl with dazzling golden hair appeared within the image.
"It’s Miss Ais!"
Lefiya shot up from her seat before she even realized it, immediately drawing everyone’s attention.
"Ahem."
Filvis, sitting beside her, let out a small, embarrassed cough and quickly pulled Lefiya back into her seat.
Only then did the slow-reacting Lefiya realize what she’d done. Her face flushed scarlet and she sank down with a tiny whimper.
Leaving Lefiya’s dramatic reaction aside, everyone turned their focus back to the projection.
Their earlier distraction made them overlook the terrain Ais was standing on.
Underfoot was no longer solid ground—it was a field of blazing red lava, radiating deathly heat in every direction.
Right beside Ais’s feet, countless bubbles swelled on the molten surface. When they burst, splashes of lava landed directly on her bare feet.
"Hiss—!"
Even without feeling the heat themselves, just watching the scene made everyone’s own feet ache as if they were burning.
But Ais, standing barefoot on molten rock, didn’t react at all.
"Doesn’t she feel pain?"
Even Tiona’s usually bright smile faded into puzzlement.
"That’s advanced magic control."
Riveria narrowed her eyes. With her extraordinary sensitivity to magic, she could see the faint film of magic wrapped around Ais’s body even through the projection.
"She’s enveloping her entire body in magic, preventing direct contact with the lava."
"Perfect magical control. Using such a tiny amount of magic to completely wrap her body like that... even an exceptional mage would struggle to replicate it."
Any mage capable of using Magic could learn to coat their body in magic with practice.
But to restrict the magical output to such an extremely delicate level—not only resisting the lava’s corrosion but also maintaining enough buoyancy to stand on molten rock without sinking—that wasn’t something a mage could master with simple training.
In the projection, Ais lowered her head, brows knitted.
"Not coming out?"
Normally, those giant lizards would have already burst out of the lava by now. Why was there no movement?
"Ais."
Hearing the voice, Ais turned immediately and bowed slightly toward the figure standing at the edge of the lava pool.
"Teacher."
"You’re too excited today, Ais."
Ais froze for half a second, then hurried to calm herself. But once her emotions had rippled, they couldn’t settle so quickly.
Bell understood well that today was important to Ais. In truth, it was equally important to him. So he could fully understand her unsettled emotions.
"Let’s skip the morning hunt for today. The observers on both sides are already in place. We can’t waste any more time."
"It’s starting?"
Prompted by his reminder, magic gathered lightly beneath Ais’s feet, and she instantly appeared beside Bell.
Ais understood today’s plan. She knew that the familia and the Guild would be watching her and her teacher’s strategy. But she didn’t particularly mind.
She just hadn’t expected the start time to be this early.
She thought it would be later.
Still, she was fully prepared, and she’d rested well last night. Even with the early start, she wasn’t affected much.
"Go get ready. We’re heading out."
"Mm."
Ais didn’t say anything else and immediately hurried back toward the shelter.
Thinking there was still time, she had left her waist pouch inside.
It was early, after all—she thought she would have time for her usual morning exercise.
But apparently, they were starting now.
Bell didn’t return. He simply waited where he stood. Barely a minute passed.
As the air stirred around him again, Ais was already back at his side.
"Teacher, I’m ready."
Ais now looked slightly different from before.
Her bare feet had been replaced with a pair of new boots, and she had changed into more formal gear—a lightweight cuirass protecting only the front of her chest.
Bell reminded her,
"Is your mindset settled?"
Ais stiffened, like a grade-schooler caught misbehaving, standing awkwardly before a teacher while her eyes darted around.
Seeing her like that, Bell let out a helpless sigh.
"You’re so excited you scared off the lizards under the lava. You really think you’re in good condition?"
Ais right now was exactly like a child who just learned there would be a field trip tomorrow—so excited she wouldn’t sleep a wink...
Honestly, Bell was certain that if he hadn’t kept an eye on her last night, she absolutely wouldn’t have slept properly.
A faint blush colored Ais’s cheeks—pure embarrassment.
"Teacher, I’ll adjust myself."
Adjusting one’s mental state wasn’t something done in an instant. It took at least as long as running back and forth to the shelter.
Yet standing still, Ais slowly began to settle.
Her excitement receded at a speed visible to the naked eye, leaving everyone watching in silent shock.
Especially those who knew just how troublesome Ais could be when overly excited.
Moments later, the excitement faded entirely. After a quiet deep breath, her outward emotions vanished—but her eyes burned with vibrant light.
Calmness didn’t mean turning emotionless.
Calmness was a matter of the heart. And the body, when calm, needed to radiate heat. Those eyes weren’t meant to be cold—only filled with extraordinary fire.
Seeing her again, Bell finally nodded.
"Mm. This is much better. Let’s go."
"Mm."
Ais nodded and followed behind her teacher toward the entrance to the next floor.
They had already located it earlier. Without disturbing a single Monster nearby, the two slipped into the descending staircase.
No Monsters would attack here; the stairwell remained one of the relatively safer places.
Halfway down, they began to smell moisture in the air—along with the faint scent of salt.
’So, an ocean next?’
Bell felt curious about the scenery ahead, marveling again at the Dungeon’s endless variety.
The staircase ended, leading into a dim corridor. A faint light gleamed in the distance.
Clearly, it marked the path forward.
They continued toward the light. The corridor resembled a long cavern passage, its walls jagged and uneven, though the ground beneath their feet remained surprisingly level.
Passing through the corridor and stepping into the open, the sight of the 90th floor filled everyone’s view.
It really was an ocean!
