Chapter 838: Chapter 838: Bete, You Really Do Like Ais, Huh

Three days later, the entire Loki Familia assembled inside their compound.

Because the notice had gone out in advance this time, even Raul—who had been causing trouble in the Dungeon lately—returned obediently.

There were quite a lot of members gathered.

A single conference room couldn’t hold everyone, so this meeting was held in the largest space available—the dining hall, which could almost accommodate the entire Familia.

Despite the large-scale internal movement, it caused little external disturbance.

After all, this wasn’t any special mobilization. At most, it was just an internal assembly.

Beforehand, Loki had warned Finn to watch the implications carefully. With so many gods already keeping an eye on the Loki Familia, they couldn’t afford to draw even more attention just because of an internal gathering.

Finn took this very seriously and organized a completely silent internal assembly.

Because Finn intended for things to move quietly, he didn’t emphasize the purpose of the gathering at all. As a result, none of the members knew what exactly they were here for.

In one seating area of the dining hall, a group of girls sat together, waiting idly for the meeting to begin.

Some, however, couldn’t stand the boredom and wanted to know the reason ahead of time. They turned to someone who might know the answer.

"Miss Tione, do you know why we’re gathering this time?"

"Eh?"

Suddenly called by name, Tione froze for a moment, pointing at herself in confusion.

"Me? Why would I know the reason? The Captain hasn’t said anything yet!"

"Tione, even you don’t know?"

Hearing her response, everyone realized that Finn truly hadn’t told anyone about the gathering.

If even Tione—who stayed closest to the Captain—didn’t know, then this meeting must be about something very important.

Even the normally lively Tiona became interested.

"So, why did Finn call us all together?"

"Could it be related to Miss Ais?"

A soft, timid voice suddenly cut in, steering the topic in a completely different direction.

Everyone recognized that voice immediately.

Turning toward it, they saw a visibly energized Lefiya, and all of them exchanged knowing smiles.

If anyone had suffered the most during Ais’s absence, it was Lefiya.

Since long ago, Lefiya had always been right behind Ais—many in the Familia even joked she was Ais’s shadow spirit.

It wasn’t that people were teasing her too harshly; Lefiya simply clung to Ais that much.

Because of this overreliance, Lefiya used to feel terrified of monsters before she grew stronger.

Only after leaving Ais’s side did Lefiya finally begin to grow.

Yes—just like a fledgling bird separated from its mother. Without someone to rely on, one has to become strong to survive.

But when it came to Ais, everyone had their own opinions.

"Ais should’ve gone into the Dungeon after the Evilus campaign, right? I remember Lady Riveria mentioning it."

Filvis, seated beside Lefiya, vaguely recalled Riveria saying so. She had been with Lefiya then and happened to overhear it.

Hmm... but Lady Riveria hadn’t said anything about what happened after that. She only said Miss Ais went into the Dungeon—never when she would return.

The thought made Lefiya deflate instantly.

She couldn’t even remember how long it had been since she last saw Miss Ais. Probably around 186 days? Her memory wasn’t great, so she wasn’t sure.

During these months, she had been acting together with Filvis and had gone into the Dungeon for training, yet she hadn’t seen Miss Ais even once—not even a rumor of her participating in any expedition.

It wasn’t that Lefiya rejected the idea of Miss Ais going to the Dungeon.

But for training... did she really have to go for half a year?

And even if she did, how could there be absolutely no news?

"Hmph. That old hag must be deliberately hiding information about Ais."

The werewolf Bete, who had been silent until now, finally spoke.

"It’s not just that old hag blocking info. Finn and Gareth definitely know too. Otherwise Ais wouldn’t be missing for so long."

Bete’s words immediately caught Lefiya’s attention.

She ignored the "old hag" part completely and focused on the latter half. "Captain Finn and the others know?"

Bete stared at the innocent girl, doubting whether she had really learned anything from him. "You didn’t even notice? Don’t tell me you’ve been curled up in your blankets crying all this time?"

"W-who said that!?"

Lefiya jumped up like a startled cat.

Yep, exactly what I thought. Bete was sincerely speechless. This kid really was hopeless.

Crying into her blankets?

Ais wasn’t even dead. What was there to cry about so early?

Bete truly couldn’t understand her logic.

"Ais has definitely been in the Dungeon all this time. She wouldn’t just stop here."

He had understood that the moment he realized Ais was nowhere to be found.

No need to think too hard—just consider her personality.

She wasn’t like him. She could continue down that path forever. It was absolutely the right path.

Deep down, Bete believed this without a shred of doubt.

Tiona, however, looked curious.

"Bert, how are you so sure the person this meeting is about is Ais?"

Bete stared at Tiona again, this time even more blatantly, as if saying are you stupid?

"Then who else do you think would require gathering every single one of us for a meeting right now?"

Tiona nearly leaped up to fight him on the spot, but Bete only leaned back in his seat with his arms behind his head.

"She’s been hidden for half a year. This gathering must be to show us how much Ais has grown."

"Heh~ I’m actually kinda looking forward to it. Ais’s growth this time will probably exceed anything we imagined."

Bete looked genuinely excited for that moment.

Seeing him like this, Tiona went quiet for a moment, then spoke with a "knew it" tone:

"Bert, you do like Ais."

That conclusion made the werewolf’s face turn red, his whole posture becoming awkward and tangled.

"Ha! Damn Amazoness, that’s the conclusion you got from what I just said!?"

"But that really is how you’re acting, Bete."

That one sentence completely shattered his composure.
