Chapter 170: Chapter 170: Zombies Appear!

Taking the item Hua Bao handed him, Zhu Fei looked at it and then nodded, "Mhm, this will do."

The items that Hua Bao had acquired were mostly of high quality, like the High Grade Nephrite Jade, and the top-notch wolf howl brush made from the fur of a wolf king.

Aside from the cinnabar not being mixed with boy’s blood, the rest of the materials were quite satisfactory to Zhu Fei.

"Old Song, and everyone else, I need some time to craft a few talismans now. Once I’ve completely cleansed the Corpse Poison from these three brothers, we will almost be ready to set out."

"Oh, do you need a quiet room then? How about I show you one?" said the enchantress with a laugh, stepping forward and grinning at Zhu Fei.

Looking at the enchantress’s seductive and bewitching face, Zhu Fei felt speechless yet again, but he ultimately nodded his head.

...

The night was dark and deep within the dense woods of a place called Qibao Mountain, located in Jiangnan City to the northwest.

Dozens of fully armed soldiers, carrying submachine guns, were searching carefully around in groups of seven.

There was no moonlight tonight. The clouds were thick and heavy, adding an extra layer of gloom and oppression to this area, where extremely strange events had occurred.

"Captain Wang, do you think that the incident here before was really caused by that monster? The higher-ups sent us to search this place, but it’s been so long, and we haven’t found anything. Do you think that monster might not be here anymore?" said a tall and thin soldier in a hushed voice to a middle-aged man in front who was closely observing the surroundings.

The middle-aged man, known as Captain Wang, gave the soldier an irritated glance upon hearing his words.

"Little Wei, quit your yapping. Just search carefully, why so much chatter?"

"Heh, I was just asking," Little Wei, the tall, thin soldier, replied with an awkward smile.

Just as he was about to say something else, he suddenly felt a chill at the back of his neck.

It was as if a cold wind that could slice skin had touched his very insides, making Little Wei shiver uncontrollably.

"Damn it, what’s with the weather tonight? Why is even the breeze so cold?" Little Wei muttered, annoyed.

"Little Wei, you rascal, are you really itching for trouble tonight? What’s with all this blabbering? Nonsense about winds? Where’s the wind now?"

Captain Wang finally turned around and glared at Little Wei.

However just as he was about to scold Little Wei once more, his eyes suddenly widened and his face filled with utmost terror.

Behind Little Wei, there stood an ancient zombie—clad in tattered Qing Dynasty official robes, skin oozing pus, with sharp fangs in its mouth and extremely long black nails on its hands—bent over, placing its mouth right at the carotid artery on the back of Little Wei’s neck!

"Run... Quick, get out of there! Little Wei, move!"

"Da da da..."

Captain Wang was quick to react; as he yelled at Little Wei, his submachine gun fired a barrage of bullets.

Instantly, the official-robed zombie’s body was riddled with bullet holes.

"Roar!"

As if provoked by Captain Wang’s actions, the zombie let out a furious roar.

A dark mist suddenly rose from its body, and to Captain Wang and the others’ horror, the dense bullet holes that riddled the zombie due to the submachine gun fire were visibly squirming and healing at a rate visible to the naked eye.

"Ah!"

Little Wei let out a scream so piercing it cut through the night.

Before he could get far, the sharp-nailed zombie suddenly slashed at the air, violently cutting towards the back of his neck.

The next second, a column of blood suddenly spurted out from the back of Little Wei’s neck and immediately surged into the mouth of the zombie in the ’official’ garb.

In an instant, faint red glows swirled around the zombie in ’official’ attire.

As if it had received some sort of nourishment, the festering and rotting skin of the zombie in ’official’ garb actually began to show signs of recovery, with fresh flesh faintly growing back.

"Little Wei!" Captain Wang shouted in rage.

He watched, eyes wide with horror, as his brother, who had just been carrying out missions and joking around with him, died so miserably in front of him.

This made him feel not only an excruciating pain and anger but also an involuntary chill at the bottom of his heart.

Could they really take on such strange, such horrifying monsters?

While Captain Wang was struck by this terrifying thought, he was, after all, a soldier, and his reactions were swift.

As he fired his gun and shot fiercely at the zombie in ’official’ garb, he didn’t forget to order others present to quickly signal the rest of the people around them.

"Whoosh!"

A firework suddenly soared into the sky.

The soldiers in charge of patrolling nearby saw the flare go up and their faces changed.

"Not good! There’s trouble at Captain Wang’s location, everyone hurry over there!"

"Click-clack-click..."

Instantly, a series of sounds of bullets being chambered rang out.

Dozens of soldiers, guns in hand, rushed towards Captain Wang’s location from several directions.

"What kind of monster is this?"

At Captain Wang’s side, he watched the zombie in ’official’ garb, now ’bathing’ in a dark red glow, and couldn’t help but swallow his saliva unconsciously.

"Ca... Captain, what do we do now?"

The remaining five soldiers standing beside him showed faces of terror and involuntarily began to retreat.

"Roar! Roar! Roar!"

Just then, the zombie in ’official’ attire suddenly let out another roar, and an invisible black light ’wave,’ with the zombie at its center, rapidly spread out in all directions.

Upon coming into contact with this invisible light ’wave,’ Captain Wang and the others felt their blood boil within their bodies, as if it was about to burst into flame, and their minds even began to feel somewhat bewildered.

"Stop!"

Not far away, a group of soldiers rushed urgently towards this area. When they saw what was happening ahead, a military officer in charge of the operation immediately raised his hand to stop them from moving forward.

"Everyone pay attention, stay here and provide fire support against that monster. Remember, without my order, none of you are allowed to advance further! Did everyone get that?"

"But, what about Captain Wang and the others...?"

One of the officers, seemingly an adjutant, hesitated upon hearing the commander’s orders.

"What? Do you have an objection? Remember, this is a military order!"

The commanding officer spoke with unquestionable authority, glaring at the person who had just spoken up.

"Yes, Major Shi!"

"Ratatat..."

Instantly, intense gunfire erupted.

The officer known as Major Shi sighed deeply as he observed the situation of Captain Wang and his team from a distance.

Wang Rui, what I’m doing now is actually against the regulations from above. All I can do at this moment is this much, I hope you can hold on.
