Damned Healer-Chapter 706: I Want To Know
'What is this?' Darian thought, somewhat confused. He had already read and learned about everything from his mother and father, but he had never heard of such an intense power coming directly from a mortal soul like his.
The strangest thing of all… were definitely the nine rings at the center of his forehead. And besides that…
'Power of chaos… power of a Gaia… a bit of vital, mental, and spiritual energy, and also… karma?'
He recognized those powers within his soul and, worse, everything was circulating in perfect harmony. It was definitely some kind of technique, but he had activated it instinctively, without any idea how he did it.
Darian snorted. Thinking about it now was a waste of time. He focused his gaze forward.
The entire cave was illuminated by his aura. The inscription runes around the place exploded into dust. The pool of blood evaporated.
The scene was pure devastation. At the very back, the old man stared at him, completely catatonic.
The man couldn't move a single muscle. It was as if an Immortal entity was gripping his throat with invisible hands.
But Darian's eyes quickly moved away from him. He stared at the lifeless body of the woman.
A deep pain pierced his chest. She looked… familiar.
Something about her almost made him remember something very important.
"Fuck…," Darian spat.
The sharp pain in his head came back in full force. It was so intense he couldn't even think. He quickly looked away from her; the cause of that suffering was obvious.
With a deep sigh, he focused on the old man again.
Darian made a gesture, and his dagger floated straight into his hand. Letting the new power act on its own, he made a sharp motion and released his strength.
**RUMBLE!!**
Space-time was shattered with a terrifying sound. All across the planet, people heard the blast and fell to the ground, completely terrified.
Inside the cave, Darian's eyes were wide open.
"Blinding Break…"
The words left his lips automatically. He couldn't even process what he had just said.
Right before his eyes, the old man no longer existed. There were no screams, no mist of blood. He was struck by a blade and simply disintegrated.
After that, the power didn't explode; it just strangely dispersed into the air.
Without him knowing, three invisible figures were already inside that place, watching him. They dispersed the impact of the attack, or the cave would have collapsed with him inside.
Darian took a deep breath, calming himself. All the light and the manifestation behind him had disappeared, returning him to his normal state.
He didn't hesitate and quickly walked forward.
When he stopped in front of the woman's dead body, he knelt down and observed her carefully.
"I don't know her, I'm sure of it… but… why do I feel this?"
His face twisted. The sharp pain lodged directly in his soul kept getting stronger.
He closed his eyes.
The image of a pair of amber eyes appeared in his mind.
His heart was out of rhythm. His mind was in chaos. It was a terrible, indescribable feeling. He knew he had forgotten something, something he should never have forgotten.
He tried and tried to remember. The pain didn't lessen, but he refused to stop. He felt that this was the most important thing of all.
Darian clenched his fists so tightly his nails dug into his flesh. Blood started flowing between his fingers.
He didn't stop.
Suddenly, he coughed up a mouthful of blood, but his eyes remained fixed on the void of his memory.
He had to remember. No matter the cost.
"Stop."
Suddenly, a female voice rang out, making Darian open his eyes abruptly, startled.
Then, he saw a gentle figure cup his face softly. She radiated affection and warmth, making Darian's mind and soul relax immediately.
"M-mom…"
He murmured, and Ruri didn't let go for several seconds, until she was sure he had calmed down.
When she stepped back, Darian saw Meru and his father right behind her, staring at him with serious expressions.
"What… what is going on?"
He spoke, growing tense. His father had said he wouldn't help him with anything, and no one else could interfere either. His orders were like a decree. But… that power clearly didn't feel like something external, as if someone had broken the rules and handed it to him.
Meru sighed when she saw that look; she could easily read what he was thinking. "Brat, nobody helped you. That's actually yours."
"What?!" Darian became even more confused.
Ruri turned and, with serious eyes, looked at that gigantic figure.
"Master, you promised."
She called her husband master simply because she wanted to. In the past, when they first met, she had been accepted as his disciple, so it became a habit she chose to keep.
The figure snorted, staring at Darian intently. His gaze was cold like a blade. Darian felt he was slightly irritated because he had done something unexpected. But…
Suddenly, the light in that figure's eyes and his expression changed. Now they seemed soft and warm, just like his mother's.
It was like… yes, at this point, Darian already knew about his father's peculiarity. His soul was divided into two poles, acting and thinking separately. Now, they had switched places.
"He really managed to remove my seal on his own…," the figure murmured calmly.
Darian's eyes shifted as he understood the meaning behind those words. Meru had said all of that belonged to him, so… his father had sealed it inside his soul.
"Brat." The figure spoke dryly, staring into Darian's eyes.
"You're not stupid, and you must've realized you brought extremely intense things from a past life. Think carefully: do you really want to remember everything? I know you're confused, but starting from zero is actually a great opportunity. When you open Pandora's box, terrible things, things that might be better left behind, will resurface. No matter what happened in the past, life always moves forward. You have no obligation to anything or anyone; living your current life without attachments is sometimes a wise path."
Silence filled the place.
Ruri and Meru bit their lips, looking at Darian with concern.
But… both they and that figure knew exactly what his answer would be.
Breaking that seal in his soul was something impossible for the three of them before he reached immortality. Yet Darian had done it just a few months after he started cultivating. That made it clear how desperate his soul was to remember.
"D-dad… I want to know everything." Darian said seriously, looking him straight in the eyes.
The figure sighed.
"He's ready," Ruri's voice sounded again. "Release everything. He needs to know who we are and everything we built together. It will be important for him."
The figure nodded, somewhat reluctant. He had promised he would do exactly that if Darian broke the seal. To him, that would only happen when Darian became an immortal and already had thousands of years behind him. He had truly underestimated Darian.
"Come." The figure gestured.
Darian took a deep breath and stood up, walking toward him.
With a light motion, the figure's immense hands touched his head.
Then…
Inside his soul, in a place hidden from all living beings, a door opened.
From within, multiple points of light flowed outward. There were several dozen.
Inside each of those points of light were all the memories and personalities from all of Darian's lives.
But the figure didn't release everything at once, or Darian would go into shock. He sealed almost all of them within his mental sea, so he could release them slowly. Then, he moved two of them and made them merge with him.
"!"
Darian trembled; then his eyes closed, and his consciousness faded.
Internally, it felt like his soul was rewatching a long… very long movie.
Meru took a deep breath, her expression worried and anxious.
Not even death managed to stop him.
After dying, in a very short time, he was already completely back.
But…
Before, it was as if he were a small fish living inside a tiny aquarium.
Now, he had been reborn as a Dragon capable of devouring stars, flying through the cosmos like a God.
