Chapter 280: Chapter 51: Diligence (Part 4)

On the windowsill of the Miao family’s house, a bird fluttered down, with "Little Pig" proudly shaking off the chill clinging to its feathers. This was its first time flying such a long distance, and not only had it not gotten lost, but it had also arrived successfully. After all, having been in a pigeon cage before, it had learned by mimicry, and its sense of direction was quite good—Little Pig couldn’t help feeling proud.

Yibar, who was sitting with the others, reacted the fastest and rushed to the window in a few strides, "Isn’t this the turkey that always follows Yezi and never leaves his side?"

Upon hearing this, "Little Pig" bristled all over and, unceremoniously, gave Yibar a sharp peck.

"No no, you know your way home, you’re not a turkey, you’re a pigeon." Yibar was also worried about his nephew but didn’t mind another peck from "Little Pig" as he caught it and brought it in front of his sister.

"Little Pig, is Yezi alright?" Tears could no longer be held back by Yezi’s mother as she wept and asked.

Retracting its lifted feathers, Little Pig spread its wings to the left and right, thudded belly-down, both feet and wings pointing skyward, making a grounding gesture.

"Yes, Yezi was washed away by water, fainted by the riverside." Yezi’s mother understood its meaning. Miao Saisong’s ability to communicate with animals was much poorer compared to Yezi, but she could still manage simple communication with them.

Struggling to its feet, Little Pig wobbled around in circles on the spot.

"Is he injured? Thankfully, it’s not serious," Yezi’s mother’s voice trembled.

Little Pig first flew to a calendar hanging in the room, flipping through the pages from January all the way to June, then made a motion as if soaring up to the roof beams, chirping joyfully.

"Are you saying he soared to the sky, met... an exceptional master, and the master wants to keep him for six months, telling us not to worry?" Tears turned into laughter for Yezi’s mother upon seeing Little Pig’s witty antics.

After delivering the message, Little Pig flew around a bit mor, tired and thirsty. After passing on the message, it hopped onto Yezi’s mother’s knee, begging for food.

Upon hearing Little Pig’s explanation, the last bit of worry left in Yezi’s mother dissolved. She herself had once been rescued by such eccentric figures like the Great Wizard, so she could accept the possibility of her son encountering such extraordinary adventures.

The Han people inside the house, however, were startled and uncomprehending of Little Pig’s words.

After receiving the message, Li Quqi first sent Yibar to inform the Great Wizard, then sent off the people from Ge Village.

That night in the Dongnan Miao Village was blissful for Little Pig. To thank it for a long journey of delivering the message, Yezi’s mother specifically picked some large poisonous bugs to feed it. So full was Little Pig it took four and a half hours to fly back; the journey which originally took three hours had its duration significantly increased due to its bloated stomach.

Compared to Little Pig, Yezi was less fortunate: "I’m freezing to death, let me get up," his resonant voice echoed through the valley.

Yezi couldn’t remember how long he stood in the water. From the moment he had a soft moment and agreed to learn beast taming skills from Fiji, to sending "Little Pig" to ease his father and Mama’s worry, he had been "pushed" into the water by Fiji. Daytime was still bearable with him allowed to dig into a nest of wild bees for honey, but then the bees furiously stung him, forcing him back into the water.

In the Yun Gui region, the days may still be as warm as a blossoming spring, but nights turned bone-chilling cold, not to mention on this dimly moonlit riverbed with stones, where the coldness of the water crept from his feet, spreading to every nerve in his body.

Submerged up to his chest in water, the water’s chillness numbed his whole body.

"Kid, I heard from Illusion Phoenix that you are very talented, but from what I see now, you seem quite ordinary. If you want to step up, there are only two ways: either make that swarm of wasps return to their hive, or try to drive away the silver fish underwater," probably because he had kiwifruits to satisfy his craving, Fiji didn’t call those silver fish out of the water tonight.

Upon hearing that he had to poke that wasp nest, Yezi felt his scalp explode.

Affected by the visitor from Fertility Star, Fiji, the creatures in the dense forest and river beaches are different from those outside. The honey produced by the wasps is sweet and delicious, but its toxicity is also more severe than that of ordinary wasps.

As for the silver fish in the river, Yezi remembered last night’s encounter, and shivered with a chill. This chill made his teeth clatter.

Yezi would only yield in front of certain people. His nature was to grow stronger through setbacks. After asking once and seeing Fiji indifferent, Yezi kept silent and soaked himself in water to avoid splashes into his nose and eyes, he closed his eyes and minimized his breaths.

After midnight, the torrents on the river surface also seemed to have fallen asleep, gradually calming down.

Ripples appeared on the water surface, another ripple, and another. With his eyes closed, Yezi saw a bright light, and all the surrounding scenery and the stony beach disappeared.

The bone-chilling cold on his body also dissipated, and in his mind, ripples similar to those on the water surface emerged, but these ripples were more intricate and coherent.

Yezi’s body emitted a faint red glow. As the ripples in his brain became denser, at that moment, if someone looked from high above, they would see a scene resembling the rising sun.

On the stony beach, Fiji looked very satisfied with the changes happening in Yezi.

He hadn’t had much contact with Earthlings; in fact, as Earth’s only higher beings, humans have some research on beast-taming. From the domestic animals of ancient times to the endangered species of modern day, human history of taming is quite long.

However, truly establishing a bond with beasts to the extent of Fiji and Illusion Phoenix’s relationship is hard to come by; there are few in the world who can achieve it.

"That kid is indeed no ordinary one, far stronger than that beast that deceived the Feng Bird," Fiji revealed a satisfied smile, but after the smile, a huge stone violently trembled, as if enduring great pain.

The stones on the beach, affected by that tremor, rolled into the river water, disrupting the ripples, and a silver fish flickered through the water.

It was not until dawn that Yezi was allowed to walk out of the water.

Stepping onto the stony beach, Yezi collapsed onto a huge rock, panting heavily from exhaustion, truly tired, more so than combining studying and feeding Little Pig.

"Don’t just lie there, go into the dense forest and pick some fruits for me. Having stood in the water all night, the water has turned into your footbath, the fish in it can’t be eaten anymore," Fiji said harshly.

Yezi did not move.

In the dense forest, wasps flew by, and Yezi, rolling and scrambling, dashed into the woods like flying.

"Another six months, I fear I can only wait for six more months at most, hoping by then this boy can control it," Fiji listened to his cursing voice coming from the dense forest, and smiled wryly.
