Cultivation: Fortune by Lots-Chapter 402 - 229. The Opportunity to Achieve Immortal Body (Two-in-One Chapter)
"If you remain oblivious within your own body, it’s fine under normal circumstances. But if you are stimulated by the forces of Pure Yang or Pure Yin, it might, like today, suppress your Spiritual Soul and cause you to fall into a coma."
Lei Jun said, "After some time of recuperation, you would still be able to wake up, so it wouldn’t be a major issue. However, if it remains within you, then one day, when your cultivation is advanced enough to face the Heavenly Moat Tribulation, its influence would eliminate any chance of your success."
Upon hearing this, Meng Shaojie’s expression was one of lingering fear.
Lei Jun smiled and shook his head. "But now there’s no serious issue. Previously, it was mainly because you were unaware when you inadvertently drew this treasure into your body, and your insufficient cultivation turned what could have been a fortunate encounter into a disaster. But now that the truth is out, upon your return to the capital, you can ask a trustworthy Elder from the Scholarly Mansion to oversee and assist you in refining this item. Although it will take some time, as long as the method is correct, there will be no more danger. This is a rare Spiritual Object. If refined properly, it will be of infinite benefit to your future cultivation, truly a great stroke of fortune."
The Balance of Motion and Stillness is different from the Celestial Book Dark Shadow that troubled Zhang Yuan before. The Celestial Book Dark Shadow is not an evil item, but Zhang Yuan doesn’t have a Celestial Book or Celestial Master Seal with him like Lei Jun does. For him to keep that shadow, objectively speaking, would only result in a harmful and useless detriment, even though the Celestial Book Dark Shadow itself harbors no ill will toward others.
However, this Balance of Motion and Stillness is a rare Spiritual Object that simply needs to be refined correctly.
Meng Shaojie stared at the Balance of Motion and Stillness, lost in thought, not responding immediately.
Lei Jun observed that the other party’s hesitation didn’t seem to stem from any apprehension towards him. Rather than appearing confused or doubtful, the young scholar’s gaze seemed to show a sense of relief and sadness.
Seeing this, Lei Jun remained silent, sitting quietly at the side.
After a moment, the young scholar came back to his senses and hurriedly apologized to Lei Jun, "Elder Lei, I’m sorry, I was rude again just now."
Lei Jun shook his head calmly.
Meng Shaojie took a long sigh and then said, "If not for Elder Lei’s help and guidance today, the Balance of Motion and Stillness would not have been an opportunity for me, but a disaster. It has entered and left my body, which should signify a change of ownership; from now on, its fate should rightly be decided by you, Elder Lei."
He gave a wry smile. "In front of Elder Lei, I wouldn’t dare attempt any cunning tricks. Having received Elder Lei’s help today, I have no way to repay you. I can only offer this item, which I came by fortuitously, back to you as a humble token of my gratitude. Please do not take offense, Elder Lei."
This young scholar was indeed not attempting a feigned retreat to gain an advantage; he was genuinely grateful to Lei Jun.
Today’s events had found Lei Jun in the right place at the right time. If Lei Jun hadn’t come across him, someone else might have discovered the truth later on. It wasn’t that Meng Shaojie was destined to blindly cultivate until the crucial moment of facing the Heavenly Moat Tribulation between major realms, only to die because of the Balance of Motion and Stillness.
But the problem was, if others discovered it, would they be like this young Elder from Dragon Tiger Mountain—extracting the item without harming Meng Shaojie’s soul, and then returning it to him?
Although young and with limited experience, Meng Shaojie might not have seen a pig run, but he’d certainly heard one oink; he wasn’t completely ignorant of the ways of the world.
To say that he was not tempted by such a rare treasure before him would be a lie; Meng Shaojie was naturally very tempted, even overjoyed, had it not been for the significant setback he had already suffered due to the Balance of Motion and Stillness. But his choice to give up the Balance of Motion and Stillness now wasn’t because he had been bitten by a snake and was scared of ropes for the next ten years. It was partly due to his gratitude towards Lei Jun and partly because of a sense of melancholy in his heart.
Treasures may be good, but if one lacks the ability, one ultimately cannot hold onto them.
Meng Shaojie’s emotions at this moment were far more complex than his expression revealed. Thus, facing Lei Jun, with whom he was hardly familiar, his inner turmoil compelled him to voice some of his true feelings: "How can an opportunity one cannot grasp be called a fortunate chance?"
Lei Jun didn’t interrupt him, just listened quietly.
He could roughly grasp Meng Shaojie’s thoughts. This young scholar, though not yet unperturbed by honor or disgrace, already possessed a remarkably stable temperament for his age and experience. Being the Crown Prince’s Personal Reader was both an opportunity and a source of immense pressure. The others all hailed from prominent families; only Meng Shaojie came from an ordinary background. If he possessed outstanding talent or strengths, it might have been different. Yet, as it was, in terms of aptitude and ability, he seemed the most ordinary of them all. It was no wonder, then, that many voices whispered suspicions: Meng Shaojie was a pawn placed by the current Emperor in the Eastern Palace, and that this was a stratagem by the Empress to further bolster the influence of the commoners. Fortunately, Crown Prince Zhang Hui himself was approachable and actually got along well with Meng Shaojie. But Meng Shaojie was, after all, a young man under twenty, in the prime of his high-spirited youth. He naturally aspired to one day achieve a personal turnaround, to prove himself, to realize his own potential. In the past, he had also fantasized about being blessed with great fortune, imagining that a heaven-sent opportunity would change his circumstances. Yet, when a peculiar coincidence did grant him the Balance of Motion and Stillness, the reality of the situation was not quite what he had envisioned...
"Since Young Scholar Meng has spoken so, then I shall accept this treasure," Lei Jun no longer stood on ceremony, calmly taking up the Balance of Motion and Stillness. "Let’s consider this as forging a bond of good karma between us today."
Meng Shaojie hurriedly bowed. "I dare not presume such a thing. It is I who have troubled Elder Lei today." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Lei Jun spoke, "You are a Cultivator from the Confucian Sect. Although momentarily in difficulty, don’t lose heart or become distraught, for the future may still hold the chance for a breakthrough after long accumulation."
The various Cultivation Dao Systems generally have their own established conventions. With sufficient time accumulated over eons, there would invariably be a few exceptions. And in terms of cultivation progress, Cultivators from the Confucian and Buddhist Sects are relatively known for experiencing more such ’exceptions to the rule’.
