Outside Xia Kingdom, capital of Xia ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"In the first month of the hundredth year of Xia calendar, Emperor XiaLin Jiang abdicated outside the summer capital to Yao. – The Book of Xia."
As the historian of the Xia Kingdom wrote the final stroke in the history book, the ultimate abdication ceremony ended, and this year’s ceremony of the king of Xia Kingdom offering sacrifices to the heavens, the earth, and the ancestors was presided over by Yao.
One month later, Yao led Prime Minister Zhang Ran and a group of ministers to bid farewell to Lin Jiang outside the summer capital. Lin Jiang waved to the crowd and gradually disappeared from their sight.
······
"Have I completed my mission in Xia Kingdom? Should I go into slumber?"
On the official road of Xia Kingdom, Lin Jiang changed out of splendid garments, wore common clothes, rode an Old Ma, resembling an ordinary merchant. Meanwhile, Lin Jiang was planning his future.
With Lin Jiang’s hundred years of struggle, Xia Kingdom had become a realm covering tens of thousands of square miles, with a population of nearly five million, and tens of thousands of warriors. In today’s world, it was one of the most powerful nations.
Whether in terms of population size, productivity, tools, or governmental system, Xia Kingdom far exceeded other forces.
Achieving this in a hundred years made Lin Jiang very proud, as he had truly started from scratch and built everything with his people.
"You can sleep anytime you want, or you can go somewhere else to take a look."
Later, Lin Jiang thought carefully, "I should take a walk around everywhere, as this kind of natural scenery might disappear in the future."
After years of exploration and comparison, Lin Jiang had confirmed that the location of Xia Capital City was not far from the old Yunzhong City. The territory of Xia Kingdom actually only occupied a small piece of land in the Yun State. The development direction was towards the north, and the area where Anhua City and the Five Elements Sect used to be had not been touched.
So, Lin Jiang’s first stop was to the west, wanting to see the former Anhua City and the Five Elements Sect. After walking for several months, all there was to see was the untouched natural scenery and primitive tribes. The traces of the past could not be found, so eventually Lin Jiang gave up and turned north.
After several months, Lin Jiang returned to the Qing State. There were already one or two hundred awakened cultivators in Qing State, but Lin Jiang didn’t bring all of them back when he first came.
However, Lin Jiang’s appearance still shocked them. Over the past few years, they had sent people to Xia Kingdom to study the country’s situation and learn its systems and advanced agricultural technology. After several years, these tribes slowly established their own countries, and Qing State had become a major power.
Seeing they were doing well, Lin Jiang didn’t disturb them. He quietly looked around and then headed towards the northwest of the Qing State.
The tribes they had established were still there; Lin Hongjin and a few others were still guarding the area as per Lin Jiang’s orders. They didn’t know if any new cultivators had awakened in these years, but they dared not easily enter the fragmented space again and disturb those sleeping cultivators.
Lin Jiang didn’t disturb Lin Hongjin and quietly sneaked into the space debris to look at the sleeping cultivators, many of whom were Lin Jiang’s acquaintances.
They had descendants from the Five Elements Sect’s Zhang Wanjing, as well as people from the Lin family. Some were considered descendants of Lin Jiang, while others were disciples recruited by Lin Jiang in Bing State. The disciples from Zhonghang Sect were the least familiar to Lin Jiang.
"Sleep now, you are fortunate. You have escaped the catastrophic disasters and the dark world of today."
Lin Jiang sighed, feeling truly fortunate. They had survived the catastrophic disasters and now with the heavenly path asleep and spiritual energy disappearing, for cultivators it was like being in a dark world. But they still had life left in them to continue sleeping.
······
Coming out of the spatial fragments, Lin Jiang continued north for several months. Along the way, they were accompanied by snakes, insects, tigers, and leopards, with the blue sky and white clouds as their companions. They encountered many strange things and left behind many traces. For example, some giant rocks and cliffs bore Lin Jiang’s markings, which might become unsolved mysteries or turn into a scenic area many years later.
"This used to be Zhong State, no longer bustling with city sounds, only towering ancient trees."
Looking at the unchanged ancient scenery before him, Lin Jiang felt deeply emotional. Zhong State used to be so prosperous, a sacred place for cultivators in their hearts. There were over a dozen large immortal cities with a population of over one million, the essence of human cultivators.
The mighty Yangtze River flows eastward, washing away the heroes, with right and wrong turning into nothing. The green mountains remain, under many a red sunset.
On the riverbanks, old fishermen and woodcutters with white hair were accustomed to watching the autumn and spring winds. When sharing a pot of turbid wine, reminiscing about the past and present, many stories were turned into laughter and chatter.
Lin Jiang stood by a big river, singing loudly the song "Fairy by the River".
When Lin Jiang first heard this song, he was watching a TV show about ancient times, and he felt deeply touched by the historical significance of it.
But he didn’t have a deeper understanding of it.
Now things were different. Standing in the area where Zhong State once was, he felt a sense of desolation and bravery washing over him. This feeling could only be truly experienced in person, and those who were there might only be able to sigh in response.
By chance, Lin Jiang gained a lifespan far beyond what most people could imagine. Even with almost eternal life, he still couldn’t grasp time or erase the regrets in his life.
Lin Jiang had never crossed the river or ventured into the northern regions of Zhong State, knowing that nothing would change. Without his intervention, many cultivators would have remained dormant, and the world would have evolved differently, perhaps remaining primitive.
They would have passed through a long period of primitive society, gradually moving towards civilization and enlightenment. The journey was treacherous, and a natural disaster might bring about their extinction once again.
Yet, Lin Jiang and his companions appeared, introducing a variable that made the world’s path uncertain and unpredictable.
Turning towards the east, Lin Jiang spent months traveling to the former territory of Bing State, which now seemed to have become He State. Along the way, he saw several rivers and lakes, a sight vastly different from that of Qing State and Yun State.
Here seemed like a swampy world, reminding Lin Jiang of a place called Dream Marsh that he had heard of but never seen.
Swamps are very dangerous because you never know what could be under your feet – poisonous insects, fierce animals, or deadly mists. And sometimes it’s just the swamp itself that can swallow you up.
Lin Jiang, confident in his martial arts skills, didn’t dare to run into the swamp and chose to go around it instead.
Heading east for a long distance, Lin Jiang felt like he had reached the Wilderness border, where the elusive Small Shadiao lay sleeping without his knowledge. He wished he knew where Small Shadiao was so he could pay a visit.
The land of the Yao tribe was now empty of its inhabitants, but Lin Jiang encountered many powerful wild beasts, some of them unidentifiable. Even tigers and leopards here were stronger than those in Yun State. Maybe it was because of their Yao ancestry.
"The Classic of Mountains and Rivers wasn’t just made up," Lin Jiang thought.
Once again, Lin Jiang marveled at feeling like he had stepped into a prehistoric world here, completely different from the primitive society in Yun State.
"I wonder when the human race will expand to this place," Lin Jiang mused.
Lin Jiang shook his head. After entering the Wilderness border, he hadn’t seen any primitive humans or even a tribe. It was definitely a forbidden area for humans now.
Blinking Lin Jiang has been out for nearly two years now. He looks like a caveman, his clothes are all raggedy. Lin Jiang decided to head back.
Turning towards the southwest, he walked all the way. After more than a year, he finally arrived at Yun State. The Yunzhong Mountain Range was still towering and easy to recognize.
Flipping through Yunzhong Mountain Range, Lin Jiang didn’t disturb the people of Xia Kingdom. He quietly glanced at Cao Ying, then at Lin Ying and Big Shadiao, before returning to his sleeping place.
"I hope that when I wake up next time, the heavens will have revived, and the aura will have returned."
Lin Jiang lay in the stone coffin once again, activating the formation with his pure internal strength. This time, Lin Jiang set his sleeping time for a thousand years. A thousand years should be enough, right? Even the heavens can’t oversleep, can they?
