Cultivating Through The Game-Chapter 521 - 302: Extraterrestrial Battlefield_2
Around the cliff where he stood, hundreds of floating mountains of varying sizes were suspended upside down. The spot where he stood was not a cliff, but rather one of these inverted floating mountains.
The smaller floating mountains were like rocks, barely enough for one person to stand on, while the larger ones were like entire peaks, but inverted.
Lu Yu looked toward the largest floating mountain, where an ancient castle was situated. The castle gates were already open. No doubt, Chen Qingyun and the others had entered the castle.
Otherwise, Lu Yu would have seen them immediately; there weren't many hiding places on the inverted floating mountains unless they were hiding in the underside of the largest one.
Lu Yu leaped toward the nearest floating mountain. In mid-air, he attempted to use Spiritual Power to propel himself, only to discover that flying was impossible here; he could only advance by jumping.
This wasn't much of a problem for Lu Yu, and he quickly arrived at the gates of the castle.
At the top of the castle gates were symbols that Lu Yu did not recognize, suggesting this castle was certainly not built by humans and was likely the lair of some otherworldly beings.
From seeking directions to reuniting with others, it was determined that Lu Yu would enter this castle.
Stepping into the castle, Lu Yu found that it was constructed with a special mineral that could perfectly absorb energy, not only absorbing Spiritual Power but even absorbing the force of punches.
Moreover, once the Spiritual Power was absorbed, the floors and walls became even more solid. Unless one could shatter a wall completely in one blow, the more it was hit, the tougher it became.
Lu Yu had heard of minerals that could absorb Spiritual Power, but never of one that could absorb punch force, let alone one that enhanced itself with the absorbed energy—something he'd never even heard of.
"A specialty of the otherworldly battlefield? Interesting indeed." Lu Yu touched the wall and ventured deeper into the castle.
The entire castle seemed devoid of any person or living being; it was utterly empty, showing no signs of being inhabited, as if the builders disappeared right after its completion before it could even be used.
"Huh?" Lu Yu noticed a spent Spirit Stone on the corridor floor and looked ahead into the distance, where a trail of Spirit Stone shells stretched on, unsure who had left this mark.
Following the trail of Spirit Stone shells, Lu Yu wandered through the labyrinthine castle, searching for other people's presence.
Entering a wide hallway, he saw frescoes painted on both walls of the corridor.
An entity resembling a "human" sat cross-legged on the ground. In the next painting, another person struggled out from the back of the first, and the originally seated figure vanished. The emerging entity walked the earth.
Spherical objects dropped from its form, and as they grew, they turned into replicas of "it," gradually forming a larger and larger community until it became an empire.
Behind the frescoes of the empire, giant terrifying creatures loomed, viewing the empire as a mere toy. The subsequent paintings were destroyed, leaving only the final image.
A few "humans" gathered around a fire, staring in despair at the dimming flames, surrounded by endless darkness. The moment the fire extinguished was when the darkness would engulf them.
"These frescoes seem to narrate the rise and fall of a race. Could this castle have been built by that race?" Lu Yu speculated in his mind.
Based on the final fresco, the race was already at its most perilous time.
The once-mighty empire had dwindled to a few individuals surrounded by unending darkness, ready to vanish at any moment.
When the fire went out, the race would perish.
The darkness on the frescoes might not represent actual darkness, but an insurmountable crisis.
"Did they die in the end?" This was the question in Lu Yu's mind, and judging from this unused castle, they most likely did.
Compared to the existential threat at the end, Lu Yu was more intrigued by the first fresco, the origin of the race.
It seemed to be a race formed by dividing from a single entity. What was the original entity? Lu Yu was very interested in this because, compared to the later forms of life, the original entity was undoubtedly most similar to humans.
Lu Yu glanced at the last fresco and continued following the markings on the ground.
However, what he didn't know was that after he left, among the beings around the fire, one entity bore a human face. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Apart from it, the faces of the other entities remained blank or hidden in darkness, indistinct.
Lu Yu walked for a while, turning a corner to see a figure standing before the wall. His eyes narrowed as he recognized the figure wearing Chen Qingyun's clothes.
Chen Qingyun was standing against the wall, doing something unknown. Silently, Lu Yu approached him from behind.
"What are you doing?" Lu Yu's voice suddenly sounded beside Chen Qingyun's ear.
Chen Qingyun shuddered violently, his soul almost leaving him. He hastily drew his sword, turning to stab in the direction of the sound.
Lu Yu instinctively sidestepped the attack, pinching the sword with two fingers. He frowned, "What are you doing?"
Only after hearing Lu Yu's voice again did Chen Qingyun return to his senses. When he saw it was Lu Yu, the panic vanished from his eyes, and he withdrew his sword.
