Crowned by the Treacherous Big Shot-Chapter 375 - 350: Bringing Back Safely
Chapter 375: Chapter 350: Bringing Back Safely
"Where is it?"
Meng Qianqian asked.
Lu Yuan glanced at the chaotic, bustling street. "We’ll talk when we get back."
Meng Qianqian climbed into the carriage.
Suddenly, she realized something and asked Lu Yuan in an earnest tone, "What do you mean by ’Second Aunt’?"
Lu Yuan replied with a faint smirk, "You accepted Chen Long as your sworn brother, so Chen Long’s Second Aunt is naturally your Second Aunt."
Meng Qianqian opened her mouth, then diverted her gaze. "Ah, I suppose that makes sense."
The Great Traitor’s gaze was so sharp—could he possibly have figured out that she was Shang Jiu, reincarnated?
Lu Yuan said flatly, "If you dislike it, we won’t call her that in the future."
Meng Qianqian blinked her eyes. "Husband is right. Since Chen Long and I are sworn siblings, his Second Aunt is my Second Aunt! You’re my husband, so you can call her Second Aunt too. From now on, just call her that!"
Then, she changed her tone, "By the way, did you come find me on purpose?"
Lu Yuan glanced at her, then placed ten booklets onto the table.
They were all newly published storybooks.
Meng Qianqian smiled awkwardly. "Oh, the bookshop opened? I just went by earlier and it was closed. I thought I’d take my little sisters for some lamb spine hotpot before trying my luck again. Husband, you’re the considerate one; no wonder Great-Grandmother doted on you so much."
Lu Yuan said, "Spare me the flattery. So you’re saying your ’luck’ brought you here?"
"Wasn’t I looking for someone?" Meng Qianqian shoved the soundly sleeping Bao Shu toward him. "Besides, it was your daughter who clung to me and refused to let go."
Lu Yuan shot her a chilly look. "Do you really think this governor would believe that?"
Meng Qianqian cried out miserably, "Heaven and earth bear witness, it’s absolutely true!"
Lu Yuan scoffed coldly. "Hmph."
"Not believing what ought to be believed..."
Meng Qianqian muttered under her breath, before heavily shoving a stick of candied hawthorn into his hands. "Here!"
Lu Yuan accepted the candied hawthorn and hoisted up the little one who was sound asleep.
Though he often annoyed her, seeing him actually take a bite of the candied hawthorn she bought for him instantly swept away all her irritation.
Meng Qianqian rested her chin on her palm, watching him.
Lu Yuan ate elegantly, his natural poise exuding a touch of unspoken nobility.
"Is there something on my face?"
Lu Yuan asked coolly.
Meng Qianqian smiled warmly. "There are mountains and rivers that stretch for thousands of miles, there are sun, moon, and stars, there are mornings and evenings, there’s heaven and earth."
Lu Yuan’s face reddened slightly.
The couple went to a lamb restaurant to pick up Tan’er and Bai Yuwei.
The two ate their fill, boarded the carriage, and quickly fell asleep.
Bai Yuwei had only just arrived in the Capital City. Initially thought to be a haughty and unruly rich heiress, it turned out she had the same child-like innocence as Tan’er.
Upon returning to the mansion, Lu Yuan and Meng Qianqian headed to the Miao King’s courtyard.
As soon as they entered, they discovered Chen Long was there, playing chess with the Miao King.
Their chess skills were equally abysmal, yet they seemed oddly harmonious.
"Grandfather! Brother!"
Meng Qianqian greeted them both with a smile.
"Haha! I won!" The Miao King placed a piece on the board. "My dear granddaughter-in-law is my lucky star. I win as soon as you arrive!"
Chen Long stared at the board skeptically. "Is this really a win?"
The Miao King patted his shoulder. "Oh, come on! Would I, an old man over a hundred years old, lie to you? Now pay up, pay up!"
Chen Long’s money bag was empty.
The Miao King handed all his winnings to Meng Qianqian.
Instantly, Chen Long felt no longer heartbroken.
"Where have you been disappearing to for days?"
"I heard the Miao King say there’s news about the children?"
Lu Yuan and Chen Long spoke simultaneously.
Lu Yuan gave Chen Long a suspicious look. "Are you purposely avoiding the Ministry of Justice, leaving me to handle the investigation all by myself?"
Chen Long paused. "Is it that obvious?"
Lu Yuan: "...!!"
Meng Qianqian was astonished. Chen Long, who never lied, was actually pulling a small trick?
But upon reflection, he had only said he had ’business’—he hadn’t explained what business. How could avoiding the investigation not count as business?
Meng Qianqian put a hand to her forehead. "Brother, I thought you had something important to handle. I worried about you for days, but it turns out you just didn’t want to face the investigation."
Chen Long said, "The people at the Ministry of Justice are exhausting."
He had once been detained by the Ministry of Justice—not tortured physically—but their methods were even more tormenting than physical torture.
Lu Yuan said coldly, "And while you were hiding in peace, do you know this governor was interrogated for three days and three nights?"
Chen Long replied seriously, "Anyway, you’re an official of the court. Handling things like this should be second nature to you."
Lu Yuan let out an amused but exasperated laugh. "You still think you’re justified in this?"
Seeing the two about to start arguing again, Meng Qianqian quickly stepped in to mediate, "Enough, enough, stop quarreling! Let’s get back to business! Brother, two things. First, I ran into that person—the one in the Prime Minister’s Mansion secret chamber who handed you the evidence and helped you find the exit."
Chen Long was shocked. "You... you know who it is?"
Lu Yuan snorted. "Was it that hard to guess?"
Meng Qianqian asked Chen Long, "Brother, is he the Monkey Spirit?"
Chen Long hesitated for a moment, then said in a low voice, "Don’t ask me. I won’t say anything."
Lu Yuan sneered. "If you don’t talk, I won’t either. As for the whereabouts of the Dragon and Phoenix twins, you can keep guessing."
Chen Long’s expression remained unmoved.
Lu Yuan frowned in confusion and glanced quickly at the Miao King, who was trying to sneak away.
"Old man!"
"I didn’t tell him! I only gave him the Hunting Eagle! You didn’t say I couldn’t give it to him!"
"I’m leaving now."
Chen Long grabbed the Sword Box from beside the wall and said to Lu Yuan, "It doesn’t matter whether you tell me or not. With the Miao King’s Hunting Eagle, I can still track them down."
He then turned to Meng Qianqian, his tone softening. "Take care. I’ll make sure to bring them back safely."
"At Lingshan."
Lu Yuan spoke calmly. "Taking the water route is faster."
