Craved by the Wrong Volkov-Chapter 150: Meeting Killian Orlov
Brealyn’s POV
Well, Lucien lied.
A few hours later, I found myself in an Uber heading to the meet-up location alone. I leaned back on the seat trying to get my thoughts together as my mind drifted back to earlier
Lucien had an emergency; he couldn’t disclose the details. We were having breakfast together when his phone started to ring immediately and his face went pale.
"Is something wrong?" I had asked him tentatively. Lucien slowly stood up, abandoning his plate, and he glanced up at me with a worried expression.
"Something came up, I have to leave." He had explained. My brows furrowed. He could not just leave, we had responsibilities to fulfil after all, we were here because of the project.
After getting the government approval, we still had to finalise everything with the investors. Personally, I didn’t really care if this project worked out or not because I have been half-heartedly handling everything, but it was extremely important to him, of all people.
This was the project that would solidify his position at Volkov Apex at least that should mean something to him.
"But you can’t just leave like that, we still have an important meeting, and you know there are still chances of this deal being snatched away if we don’t secure the resources..." My seat screeched and I stood up. He looked tired.
Lucien walked up to me stopping just a foot away. "I know but I really need to leave. It is an emergency."
My frown deepened. "What emergency?" I tried to pry further. He didn’t seem like he wanted to share details with me
He held my hand and I immediately knew things were going sideways. "It’s complicated, I can’t explain, but just trust me." He drawled.
I felt a headache coming. I didn’t even like a second of this. I drew in a very deep breath trying to get my nerves together. This wasn’t the time to lash out; maybe it was something important and not just him acting recklessly.
"When will you be back? We have an appointment today." Something flickered through his gaze. I could read it as bright as day. It was guilt. I smirked at my discovery. This was just awesome before he opened his mouth I already had an idea of what he was about to say
"I don’t know when exactly. I will try to be fast about it, but I think you will be..." I raised my hand to stop him.
"You aren’t thinking of dumping this on me. Even if I have experience I can’t handle it alone." I hissed at him, finding the situation pretty irritable. He released a helpless sigh.
"Just this once. I know you can handle things." It was funny how moments ago he was adamant about even leaving me in this manor.
"You know what." I waved him off. "Just leave before I lose my temper." A small smile graced his lips.
"I owe you one this time." He said before rushing out like he was racing against time. Later, he sent me the address of the meeting, and there wasn’t any further word from him.
The car continued to roll down the road. We had gotten into the main city by now, and honestly, the streets were beautiful, but I could not enjoy them. My mind was mentally preparing me for this meeting.
The nervousness wasn’t because of the importance of the deal, but rather the fact that I was going to meet Killian one way or the other today.
A few minutes later, the car arrived at the towering building of Genesis Corporation, one of the biggest conglomerates in this city. The glass surface reflected the bright afternoon light and it left me dazzled for a moment.
I clutched my bag and ventured inside this room. It was very out of nature for a single representative to be at such a meeting. From what I have heard about the Genesis chairman, he was quite temperamental and definitely someone we could not afford to offend.
Although Genesis was pretty new compared to the Volkov Apex they still held key importance. I strode into the large lobby and headed for the receptionist immediately.
"Good afternoon. I am Mrs Volkova from Volkov Apex. I have an appointment in a few minutes with the Chairman Mikhail Romanov." I quickly explained, and the receptionist’s eyes flickered. She looked a bit confused.
"Are you alone?" She asked finding it rather odd.
"Yes, I am the only representative available."
Her lips rounded,’ she nodded in understanding. Her gaze immediately shifted to her desktop. "Give me a moment to confirm." She chimed.
The receptionist immediately got to work while I tried to distract myself. My fingers started to tap the table slowly waiting for the second to go by.
"Excuse me." She politely called my attention. I glanced over to her. "I have Mr Lucien Volkov here. "
"Yes, I will be representing him," I explained then pulled out my company ID card
"Alright then." She said after confirming my identity. She pulled up the digital phone to make a call. Shortly after the beckoned me
"Please take a seat, someone will be here shortly."
I gave her a polite smile then proceeded to wait. A minute later a tall figure approached the receptionist after sharing a few words. The receptionist pointed out to me.
The man approached with a soft smile that seemed a bit dazzling. He was definitely more charming than your average Joe.
"Pardon us for the reception. " He apologized
.
"You must be Braelyn Volkova ." He chimed, giving me a handshake. I stood up and accepted it anyway.
"I am Casper Mondlicht, Mr Romanov’s assistant. I will escort you up," he explained, then led the way.
"Thank you."
We immediately headed for the elevator heading towards the last floor. We stepped inside then the lift doors slid shut. I must admit he was pretty good-looking. I sighed trying to count in my head as the elevator hummed and moved up
"Are you nervous?" He asked.
I shook my head. "Not exactly..." I sighed before adding. "Is everyone already waiting?" I inquired
He shook his head. "Technically you are the first to arrive. " The lift doors slid open and he led me down the corridor until we arrived at what I assumed was the conference room
Casper opened the door and urged me to come in. It was completely empty. I was indeed the first to arrive.
"The chairman is currently having a meeting in another conference room." He explained before leaving me in there. I took a few moments to get my nerves together.
There were around 10 minutes before the official start time. It was better to be early than late
..
A few minutes passed by, and the door was finally pushed open. A small crowd walked in. Leading in front was a man I would describe as imposing at first glance. I knew who it was based on the descriptions I had heard.
I rose immediately as his gaze flickered towards me. "Mrs Volkova." He approached giving me a handshake
"Mr Romanov. It is an honour. " I chimed well enough.
He smiled. "Same here." He said before his gaze flickered to the door. "There was a slight change and another party will be joining us from New Horizon." He pointed towards the door...
Lucien was right Killian was indeed going to show up.
