Cosmic Paragon-Chapter 94 - 95: Pointers
Chapter 94: Chapter 95: Pointers
After introducing himself and learning the other young mans name. Adam.
Drake could tell from Adam’s mannerisms that he was not so simple and so he did not dare to take him lightly.
Drake handed the captured sword back to Adam and activated his magic power to form his Cosmic energy armor.
"Let’s go again." Drake said.
But Adam only shook his head and declined. "As much as I would like to, I can’t; I have an appointment in a few minutes and I don’t want to be late or I’ll never hear the end of it.
Drake had no choice but to reluctantly lower his sword and draw back his magic power.
Adam smiled and asked, "You are reluctant?"
Drake shook his head in response. "Ignore me. It’s just my old ailment that’s acting up again."
Adam laughed. He recognized that old ailment Drake was talking about, as another one of his close friends had the same ailment.
"You’re a battle junkie, huh?" Adam asked. And Drake gave a rueful smile that made Adam laugh more.
Adam stopped laughing and nodded, "Alright I understand your plight. And since I’m a bit responsible for it, I will give you some pointers that can be useful for you."
Drake raised an eyebrow. He thought it should be a bit weird for someone who clearly just lost to himself to be talking about giving pointers. But Drake didn’t say anything.
Adam asked, "I noticed the way you activate your Energy armor was a bit, how do I put this? Basic?"
"Yes, I’m still getting the hang of it."
"You’ve never had anybody that thought you the proper way to use your magic power as a 2 Star mage have you?"
Drake was surprised that Adam could point that out. He shook his head slowly.
"No. I’m self thought."
This was true. He had directly started using this method after advancing to 2 star mage level.
"That’s why then." Adam nodded and pointed out "I don’t mean to sound insulting, but your control is too flimsy. It’s too wasteful."
"Wasteful?" Drake frowned a bit at the word.
Adam explained, "When a mage activates their Energy armor there are two things that we all have to do, and that is that we have to activate the armor and then second is to maintain it by constantly supplying it with magic power."
He continued, "Why I called what you are doing wasteful, is because you are pumping excess amounts of magic power constantly to both form and maintain the Energy armor. At the end of the day it looks powerful, but it’s actually not that powerful. I’ll try to explain it this way. When a 2 star mage properly activates the Energy armor, they only need maybe about a cups worth of energy, but you on the other hand are using a whole large bucket of energy to achieve the same."
Adam added, "This kind of use is extremely wasteful and won’t allow you to use your magic power to its full potential. It will also exhaust your magic power faster. The only way you will be able to last long with this is if you have massive reserves of magic energy."
In his mind, Drake shrugged thinking, "I can’t help it if have the Uzumaki clan’s bloodline.’
But that was all in Drake’s mind. In reality he asked, "What do you suggest?"
"Get a teacher!" Adam said directly. "Alpha academy has many who can teach you. If you have a problem with that, you can simply get a skill book or as you may call it a spell for it and learn from the spells method of operation of magic power."
"The skill books contain the most refined ways you can use magic power that have been recorded by other mages after research. There are lots of skill books in Alpha Academy’s Library. You can simply buy them with your Mage points. Remember, you don’t have to stick to what’s in the book. If you don’t like it or you think that method has limited potential you can simply drop it. But learn from their methods." said Adam.
He left Drake and went his way after a few more pointers.
Drake pondered quietly on what Adam had said, then decided it wouldn’t hurt to try it. He had been thinking about taking a look at a skill book for some time now.
"Looks like I’m going to have to visit the library." Drake said before rushing off back to his room.
...
Not too long after Drake left Adam’s figure appeared at that spot and he smiled looking the way Drake had run to.
"Are you happy now?" a rough voice sounded and a large man walked over from the opposite direction Drake took. It was Beast Monarch Logan.
Adam turned to his friend and smiled, "I wanted to talk to him about his magic power control, but I never planned that we would meet this way. You can’t really blame me for taking this chance to give him some pointers."
Logan grunted but he didn’t say anything more. He didn’t like meddling in other peoples business but he had no qualms with giving some advice every here and there.
"How’s the hand?" Adam suddenly asked.
Logan stiffened a bit and scowled, "It’s nothing!"
Adam shook his head and warned. "You should really get it looked at. I wouldn’t want you being weaker in our next fight just because you have a broken hand."
"Why don’t we go a few hundred rounds right now so you can see if I’m weaker now?" Logan growled and his magic power started to stir.
"Nah, I think I’ll pass for now. I wouldn’t want anyone to say I bullied you." Adam declined before Logan could say anything in defense he then added. "We should go, or we’ll both get an ear full if Helen gets to the training grounds before we do." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
...
After leaving the bridge, Drake went back to his room and cleaned himself up proper. Then he got his breakfast and went straight to the Library.
Alpha Academy’s library was a very large seven story high building.
Drake went in and arrived at the counter. There were quite a few students walking in and out of the Library, so it wasn’t quiet.
"Drake Black, 2 Star mage. Please go up to the second floor, but you do not have clearance for any higher until your Cultivation level advances." The clerk said in a mechanical tone after looking up Drake’s ID.
Drake soon arrived at the second floor, and the scene changed. It was a brightly lit floor, and there were still people moving around, but now the whole place was silent.
Like every Library, it was filled with rows of shelves; all completely stacked with books. Except they weren’t really books.
Drake walked up to one of the shelves and pushed down on one of the books and it popped out.
It was a cartridge that contained several drives. There was a display showing that it contained medical information.
Drake put it back and found the Magic Skill and Spells section.
He was soon met with a plethora of options related to all kinds of affinity’s.
Wind Element Skills!
Earth Element Skills
Fire Element Skills!
Darkness Element Skills!
Poison Element Skills!
Drake was surprised by how much there was on every element. He pulled out a Cartridge from the Wind Element section.
Wind Walking! After learning this skill a wind Element mage can stride on the winds when suspended at heights.
Drake was surprised, "This looks like it could come in handy especially when I’m out in the wilderness or if I’m in the fallen city."
There are times when you could find yourself falling from high places. And this Wind Walking skill could come in real handy at times like this. It was quite practical.
Drake tried to get it, but he was unable to take the drive containing the skill.
After searching for how to get the skill drive he found what he needed to do. He had to pay for it to take the skill.
The Price for the skill was on the back. 1000 Mage Points!
’Eh?’
Drake thought he was seeing things
Heavy Earth Armor! - 1000 Mage Points.
Unlike regular Energy armor, Heavy Earth armor allows an Earth element affinity mage to have five times defensive power.
Explosive Fist! - 1000 Mage Points.
Each Punch of a Fire element affinity mage will have an explosive property.
Drake immediately exploded. "What the Fuck? Are you guys teaching students or running a bloody fucking business. Goddamnit, why are your fucking prices so fucking high!"
He had nothing against the academy putting prices on the Skill books. What annoyed him was that they were just too outrageously expensive. Who could afford this?
"Motherfucker!" Drake cursed.
"Drake Black, please do not disturb others while you are in the library." a voice sounded and a student wearing a library attendant tag walked over.
It was a young man that looked like he was maybe eighteen or nineteen years old. Drake remembered he had seen him somewhere before. It was the same man that had been standing with the guy that had interrupted Drake’s meal just yesterday.
He had come here to do a job in the library as an attendant to earn more Mage points. Who would have expected that he would run into Drake on his first day on the job.
