Contract Marriage: Let's Make It Real, Mrs. Sterling!-Chapter 218: Morning After Waking Up
In the dark, Jensen Sterling didn’t know how long he had been standing there. Eventually, he rose and went back to the bedroom, leaving a densely packed pile of cigarette butts in the ashtray on the small table.
In the bedroom, the young lady on the bed was still asleep, her face peaceful. Jensen stood quietly beside the bed for a long time, his lips curving into a small smile. He bent down slightly to tidy the girl’s disheveled hair and then headed into the bathroom.
Standing there for so long, his whole body was imbued with the smell of smoke; he definitely needed a wash.
...
The next day.
A phone’s ringtone echoed in the quiet room—it was the alarm Mia Sutton had specifically set to wake up early today. Sunbeams trickled through, casting light on the blanket and the beautiful face of the girl, as if enveloping her whole being in sunshine.
On the bed, the person crinkled her pretty brow in dissatisfaction because of the alarm. Still half-asleep, she extended a hand from the blanket, intending to grab the phone and silence the alarm.
Jensen Sterling watched as she groped around randomly, eventually placing her hand on his chest, causing a smile to quietly spread from his eyes.
The person beside him seemed to feel something was amiss, abruptly stopping her hand’s movements. Jensen pretended to close his eyes.
...
Still groggy, Mia Sutton felt something was off with the sensation under her hand. Her stuffed animal was large too, but it was fluffy, whereas this was hard.
Mia’s hazy mind suddenly sparked a realization: ...Could it be?!
She quickly opened her eyes and was greeted by the sight of clothes very close to her. Her head rested on the nearby person’s shoulder, one hand wrapped around an arm, and her leg draped over someone else’s leg.
Mia: "...!!!" The bit of drowsiness was instantly scared away; her brain had never felt so alert before.
It was as if she’d been struck by lightning—a total shock that almost sent her spirit out of her body!
It was simply too horrifying, a true test of one’s heartbeat.
Mia sneakily glanced at the current situation, cautiously extending an arm to quickly turn off the phone’s alarm. If she woke him up, wouldn’t that be mortifying!
With difficulty, she managed to grab the phone, hit the side button to silence it, and then released it back onto the bed, ready to handle her current predicament.
She slowly extracted the arm trapped beneath her, secretly observing the person’s reaction next to her, fearing that a larger movement might wake him up.
Thankfully, every time she checked, he appeared to be peacefully asleep. Mia inwardly breathed a long sigh of relief, grateful that Jensen hadn’t witnessed such a socially fatal moment.
Once she managed to pull out that arm, she felt much lighter inside because it was the one encircling him. Having done the hardest part, she just needed to gently place her leg back now.
Mia felt like a thief, afraid of waking up the homeowner, tiptoeing around.
Finally, as she was about to slip away from his side, she smiled. But then, a deep voice came from above, slightly raspy from lack of use, with an inescapable magnetism.
"What are you doing?"
Mia’s every move froze, her whole body going stiff. This was truly being struck by lightning beneath a clear sky, alongside thunderous booms!
The death of all social deaths, buried on the spot.
Mia felt like her neck was rusting as she slowly turned to face the now awake person, giving a not-so-beautiful smile.
Somebody, please dig a hole and bury her; she had lost all face!
Mia quickly withdrew her leg, looking at Jensen with her earlobes tinged red.
Jensen shifted slightly, the blanket lifting a bit to conceal certain reactions. He then sat up, leaning against the headboard, partially hiding the dark shadows in his eyes.
While lying down moments ago, with the blanket covering him, Mia hadn’t noticed anything. Now, sitting up, his clothes hung loosely, with the collar unbuttoned, revealing a prominent collarbone.
Coupled with just waking up, his tousled hair added a touch of laziness missing from his usual neat appearance.
Mia silently looked and told herself now was not the time to admire his looks.
Then she heard Jensen chuckle, glancing behind her with amusement in his voice, "Nice sleeping posture?"
Mia: "..." It really wasn’t the time to appreciate his looks.
Following his gaze, she saw the expanse of the bed behind her, the blanketed space she had abandoned, and the large stuffed animal she’d used as a dividing line.
Everything screamed at her about what had happened last night.
After a moment, Mia finally spoke, "Uh... Jensen, I don’t usually sleep like this; I’m generally... more restrained." By the end, even she could barely hear her own voice.
Jensen didn’t contradict her but merely responded with a smile, softly saying, "Mm, today was an accident." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Mia: "..."
She glanced back again at the large empty space behind her on the bed, deeply reflecting on herself. Was her regular sleeping behavior always like this: "...?!"
It shouldn’t be. Despite her love for hugging things while sleeping, she couldn’t have rolled from one bed edge to the other, right?
Then meeting Jensen’s steady gaze, Mia felt it was her fault, dismissing the chance it could be Jensen’s doing. She quickly negated that thought; impossible.
Mia scooted a tad further to her side of the bed, recalling what she’d seen upon waking, then hesitantly asked, "Um... Jensen, did I wake you up last night?"
Jensen paused, then replied, "Not too bad, you just mistook me for your pillow."
Mia: "..." She felt numb, truly... even a bit resigned.
"Jensen, I’m sorry. Should I sleep on the couch tonight?" She apologized earnestly, though who knows how much sincerity lay in that last bit about the couch.
Jensen: "No need, if mom sees, it’d be bad." Preventing more words from the girl in front of him.
Jensen glanced at the time, then asked, "Aren’t you going to work?"
Mia: "..." Instantly, she leaped out of bed and dashed to the bathroom.
