Chapter 811: Chapter 419: Extra Story: Sorry, I No Longer Love You 2-2

Skyler Jones watched the silent exchange between Christine Quinn and Jonathon Gibson, feeling uneasy deep inside.

Even though he agreed to let Skyler Jones talk to Christine Quinn alone, Jonathon Gibson couldn’t resist warning him, "If you dare hurt Christine, I swear you’ll never leave this island."

Skyler Jones completely ignored Jonathon Gibson’s intention, his gaze following Christine Quinn, silently matching her pace, his heart still tangled in her earlier rejection.

Finally, she and he arrived at a quiet place on the beach.

She turned around to face him, her eyes unexpectedly calm.

"Christine." The raspy call was laden with deep emotion.

Christine Quinn remained indifferent.

His current form of address was the one he used to call her, memories so distant she almost couldn’t remember him calling her that.

Skyler Jones walked towards her, stopping a few centimeters away, his eyes which had never sincerely looked at her now shrouded in a certain mist.

"Christine." He called again, hoarsely.

His face, so very close to her, with eyes still as clear as before, and a nose just as straight.

She looked at him as if they hadn’t met in ages, a discomfort rose in her heart, knowing it was pain, but there was no other feeling.

She would no longer feel guilty towards him like before, nor would she wish for him to look at her sincerely, hoping for him to talk to her earnestly as he once did.

All expectations towards him were gone...

"Did Becca tell you?" she asked softly.

"You’re willing to let the whole world know that you’re still alive, yet you refuse to tell me?" he asked, feeling uneasy.

Her reply was light, "I just wanted to live a life that belongs to me, but unfortunately, even such a chance wasn’t given to me by destiny."

Her bleak tone was heart-wrenching, yet also tore at his heart.

He looked at her quietly, as if his throat was blocked, eventually speaking, "You don’t want to see me that badly?"

"I just don’t want to live the way I did before."

He couldn’t hold back, reaching out to grip Christine Quinn’s shoulders, "Christine, will you... forgive me?" he asked with a trembling voice, "I know I was wrong, I apologize for the harm I’ve caused you over the past ten years."

Christine Quinn showed no reaction, simply gazing at him calmly with her eyes under faintly dark eyelids.

He looked at her hopefully, as if even breathing had become cautious in her presence.

Suddenly, she pushed away the hands resting on her slender shoulders, offering a faint smile, "President Jones, speaking humbly like this isn’t your manner, where has your usual pride and arrogance gone?"

Her smile was so serene it bordered on harshness, further tearing at his heart. Was she mocking him now?

"There’s no need for you to purposely lower your stance, speak to me as you used to, I’m used to it anyway."

As if her blow wasn’t enough, she quietly added.

Skyler Jones pain-stricken, closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, struggling to calm the anguish in his heart. He looked deeply at her from above, "I’m sorry, the past... I know can’t be undone."

"You don’t need to make amends for me, you don’t owe me anything, and I owe you nothing, we’re just two unrelated people."

A hint of pain flashed in Skyler Jones’s eyes, "Please don’t say that, okay?"

Her indifference towards the pain in his eyes remained unchanged, "I just remember what you used to say to me... and I’ve always been self-aware."

"I know I was wrong before... you can blame me, resent me, hate me, but please don’t speak to me in such a cold tone, can you?"

She remained astonishingly calm, "President Jones, I won’t blame you, resent you, or hate you, because the path I took in the past was my own choice, no one forced me, including you."

He looked at her fragile figure, as if a gust of wind could topple her, speaking hoarsely, "Let me stay and take care of you, okay?"

She shook her head, "I’m fine here, I don’t need anyone to take care of me... and even if someone did, I believe no one would take care of me better than Jonathon."

"Christine..." his heartbeat quickened, a frightening feeling gradually gripping him.

Christine Quinn, the woman who once loved him deeply, running towards him without hesitation, seemed to have drifted far away.

She broke free, determined to fly away, and he could no longer hold on to her...

Panic spread through his limbs.

"Christine, don’t..." he whispered urgently, "Give me a chance to take care of you."

"No need, President Jones, I don’t need sympathy."

His heart choked, helplessly looking at her.

"Even though I’ve fallen severely ill, I won’t give up my life... I’ll do my utmost to live here in this world, so if you pity me, I’ve always been very resilient."

"I’m not pitying, Christine, I truly want to be by your side, I want to start over with you... even if just for one day."

"Is that so?" Christine Quinn tilted her head, looking at Skyler Jones, "Isn’t it true that you love Becca, and also love Jennifer Douglas?"

"My feelings for Becca stem from her resemblance to you..."

"Then what about Jennifer Douglas?"

"I used her to get back at you."

"So are you saying there’s no real relationship between you and Jennifer Douglas?"

"I..." How should he explain to her, "I didn’t... at least not when I was clear-headed, I didn’t touch her."

Christine Quinn smiled faintly, faintly... 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Unable to bear it, he reached out to embrace her, "I love you, Christine Quinn, will you let us start over?" he pleaded.

His embrace, once her most cherished warm refuge, now the hug had lost its former warmth...

The tighter he held her, the colder she felt.

He held his breath, waiting for her response.

As if an eternity passed, she slowly pushed him away, her soft voice gently rising, "Skyler, it’s impossible for us to start over again..."

"If it’s because of your health, I said I don’t care, I just want to be with you..." he tightened his voice, gazing deeply at her.

She didn’t answer immediately, but softly, faintly, lifted a weary, somewhat sad, self-mocking and pained smile, "But in these final moments, I don’t want to be with you..."

His body shook heavily.

She looked at him, calmly speaking word by word, "I’ve already promised Jonathon... If my health improves, I’ll marry him because I’m easily moved by people, I’ve been naïve in the first half of my life, I want to be wise in the latter half, and I know I’ll never meet a man who treats me better than Jonathon... If I ultimately perish, I still hope Jonathon will be by my side because he’s the one I’m most grateful for now, being with him brings me peace and happiness."
