Chapter 601: Chapter 314: The Thing I Want Most in This Life

When Becca returned to the villa, Howard Geoffrey had not yet come back.

Becca acted as if nothing was unusual, so Christine Quinn and Isabella Joanna did not notice any change in her mood. She then found an excuse to return to her room to rest, but as she passed through the second-floor corridor, she happened to run into Nelson Lewis.

Nelson, being Howard’s close brother, was naturally adept at reading people, so she couldn’t hide anything from him.

"Did something happen? You don’t look well. Are you feeling unwell somewhere?" Nelson asked with concern.

"I went to the city, just came back, feeling a bit carsick." She knew this excuse wouldn’t fool Nelson, but she couldn’t think of a better reason to stop him from asking more.

Nelson realized that she was avoiding something, so he didn’t press further. He just nodded, "Get some rest. If you’re still not feeling well, call the doctor."

"Okay."

Returning to her room, Becca put away the documents and lay down on the bed, exhausted.

She stared blankly at the ceiling, her mind in a state of chaos.

There were so many questions she wanted to ask Howard immediately, but she was somewhat afraid to uncover the answers.

Since she and he were already married, what should she do if she received answers she didn’t want?

Fate truly loved playing tricks on her. Every time she was about to touch happiness, cruel tests were thrown her way...

And she was already worn out from these repetitive trials.

Howard...

Did she really know him?

On the first floor of the villa.

Howard had just returned from outside.

Christine and Isabella were changing Ivy Scott’s diaper, Roger Leonard was on the sofa teaching Andrew how to build blocks, Mrs. Geoffrey was in the kitchen preparing dinner, while Nelson was just coming down from the second floor.

In his field of vision, he didn’t see Becca at all.

Howard called over a servant and asked, "Where’s Becca?"

The servant replied, "Miss Quentin went upstairs to sleep as soon as she returned."

"Returned? She went out?" Howard asked sensitively.

The servant said, "Yes, Miss Quentin went to the city this afternoon to buy something. Uncle Paul took her there."

Howard nodded, then headed towards the second floor.

As he was going upstairs, he happened to run into Nelson.

Nelson blocked Howard’s path, "Looking for Becca?"

"Yeah, the servant said she’s asleep in the room, I’m going to check on her."

Nelson nodded, "She didn’t look too well after she came back from the city."

Howard’s sharp black eyes narrowed thinly, "Feeling unwell?"

"No, she was holding a folder when she went to the room... I think it has something to do with that."

"Got it."

Softly twisting the doorknob, Howard walked into the room.

He quietly approached the bed where the person was already asleep.

Her hands were resting on the bed, breathing steadily, indicating she was sleeping soundly.

He sat on the bed’s edge, scrutinizing her slightly pale face, slowly reaching out his hand to tenderly stroke her beautiful face.

"Becca?" He gently brushed aside the hair from her cheek, and called softly.

"Mm..." Becca murmured, not waking up.

Howard wrapped her in his arms, letting her lean on him as she slept, and kissed her smooth forehead.

Maybe his movements disturbed her, for she slowly opened her eyes and woke up.

"Did I wake you?"

Becca blinked sleepily but stared intently at his handsome face.

Howard lightly pecked her lips, hoarsely murmured, "Baby... Big bro told me you weren’t feeling well."

Becca nodded. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Howard asked tenderly, "Where does it hurt? I’ll call the doctor to check on you, okay?"

Becca shook her head again.

Howard pulled her completely into his embrace, but she slowly curled up in his arms.

Resting his forehead against hers, Howard patiently asked, "Tell me, where does it hurt?"

Becca weakly raised her hand, placing it over her heart.

"Did something happen?"

Becca didn’t answer, just stared at Howard without blinking.

Howard held her tighter, his deep voice filled with affection, "Baby, tell me, what happened?"

Becca caressed Howard’s chiseled face, raspily asked, "Howard, do you really love me?"

Howard kissed her hair, deeply and sincerely replying, "I love you."
