Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 74: Justin Huxley Invites Summer Lowell to Dinner, Runs Into Maxim Sinclair
After hanging up the phone, Justin Huxley fiddled with the bent tie clip for a while, then called his assistant from outside.
"I need a list, one that includes restaurants favored by women working in the design and arts industry, as soon as possible. Preferably today."
"Got it, President Huxley, I’ll get on it right away."
The assistant was efficient. Within an hour of Justin’s request, the assistant delivered the list he wanted.
With the list in hand, Justin reviewed his schedule and picked up his phone to message Summer Lowell again.
His goal was simple: he wanted to invite Summer for dinner.
Initially, when he called Summer today, he intended to see how devastated she was, possibly offering some comfort in the process.
However, on the phone, Summer was not dispirited or dejected at all; rather, she sounded full of energy.
Her demeanor reminded him of the first time they met a long time ago.
Summer had never known that Justin had decided to help her back then because he was moved by her stubborn gaze.
Such a strong-willed girl; he had only known one like her.
Unexpectedly, after all these years and the wear and tear of society, some of that resolve still remained within her.
This unyielding spirit...no wonder Maxim Sinclair can’t forget about her.
The most interesting part is that if he were to win over the woman Maxim Sinclair can’t forget, it would be quite a thrill.
After a "ding" sound, Justin looked down at the screen and smiled contentedly.
The night was falling.
Summer had just finished working overtime and was about to hail a cab at the intersection when she suddenly heard someone calling her from not far away.
She turned around and saw Justin Huxley, who had just rolled down his car window, smiling warmly at her.
Summer jogged over to him, took a moment to catch her breath, and asked, "Justin, when did you arrive? If I’d known, I would have come down earlier."
Justin reached through the open car window, pulled out a bottle of water, and handed it to the breathless Summer: "It’s only proper for a man to wait for a lady."
After speaking, he got out of the car and walked to the passenger door, opening it for Summer who was approaching: "Get in the car first, we can talk slowly once you’re in. The wind is pretty strong tonight, and you’re dressed lightly. Be careful not to catch a cold."
Summer twisted the bottle cap shut and got in. Once the car was on the road, she spoke again: "Have you been waiting long?"
"Not too long, just smoked a few cigarettes, and then you came down. Actually, the traffic was heavy on the way over here, most of the time was wasted on the road."
Justin smiled gently and, taking advantage of a red light, pulled a box of candies from the car’s storage compartment and handed it to Summer: "I brought these back from abroad. I remember you used to love these."
Smiling, Summer took the candy box nostalgically: "I haven’t had these since I became an adult. I wonder if they taste the same as I remember."
"They should taste the same. The manufacturer hasn’t changed."
Memory can be deceptive. Summer hesitated nostalgically while holding the candy, finally putting it in her mouth after a long pause.
Watching her put the candy into her mouth, Justin glanced over during a driving pause: "How is it? Does it taste as good as you remember?"
Actually, it’s not as delicious as she remembered.
But Summer didn’t want to waste Justin’s goodwill, so she nodded earnestly: "Tastes just like I remember, sweet and sour. Thank you, Justin. Is this whole box for me?"
"I bought it for you, of course." Justin nodded straightforwardly, "I’ve always kept your tastes in mind."
"Is...that so?"
Summer thought Justin was acting oddly today, but she didn’t dwell on it, just smiled out of habit and didn’t say more.
The restaurant Justin chose wasn’t far from Summer’s office building, only two blocks away.
But because the restaurant was in a bustling commercial area, when they arrived, they couldn’t find a suitable parking spot and had to park the car further away.
Justin looked around and suggested to Summer: "Why don’t you get off first and wait for me at that café over there? I’ll park the car and then come find you."
"Alright."
So Summer got out and walked to a nearby outdoor café, sitting and waiting for Justin to return.
Maybe because it was too crowded in the evening, Summer waited nearly twenty minutes before she saw Justin, having parked the car, walking toward her.
She stood up and walked toward him, but halfway there, she was startled by a familiar figure and stopped in her tracks.
It was Maxim Sinclair.
Summer’s smile disappeared entirely.
Seeing Maxim and Justin chatting amicably ahead, Summer felt a bit uncertain whether to walk over as if nothing happened or turn and hide.
She didn’t know if Maxim had noticed her.
But before she could decide, Maxim, talking to Justin, suddenly turned around and waved at her: "Summer! What a coincidence, you’re here too?"
In front of Justin, Summer didn’t dare to give him a cold look.
Doing so would reveal to Justin their unusual relationship.
Left with no choice, Summer put on a polite smile and walked over to Maxim: "Good evening, President Sinclair. Are you here for a social event? If you are, we’ll let you be. Enjoy your meal."
Maxim looked at her with a mockery: "Would you be disappointed if I said I’m not here for a social event?"
Realizing how hasty her earlier remarks had been, Summer laughed awkwardly, saying insincerely: "Not at all, President Sinclair, you’re quite the joker!"
"Summer, I’m glad I know you, otherwise with that tone, I’d really think you’re angry for not having my itinerary reported to you," Maxim joked, then turned to speak to Justin: "Are you here for a social gathering? With her?"
Seeing that Maxim had no good intentions, Justin maintained his smile: "Just a small collaboration to discuss with Summer, you could call it socializing."
"If it’s that informal, then count me in," Maxim decided without a care in the world about the other two’s reactions, "Since we’re all close, let’s take this opportunity to have a meal together. My treat." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Not wanting to dine with Maxim, Justin forced a laugh: "Your suggestion might put Summer in a tough spot. Don’t forget that your company and hers are competitors."
