Chapter 212: Chapter 212: A Familiar Scene

Maxim Sinclair glanced back at Assistant Collins, who tactfully pulled a bottle of water from his pocket and handed it to Maxim. "You’ve had too much to drink during today’s socializing. If you drink more, you’ll exceed the limit set by your personal doctor."

"Sorry, my stomach’s been acting up recently, can’t drink too much," Maxim unscrewed the bottle and took a sip, "You were right earlier, Summer Lowell and I did have quite a good relationship in the past. Since today’s event is especially for her, it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t have a word with her. Go find Summer for me."

Tina Huxley could hardly maintain her composure.

How could she stand up to Maxim Sinclair!

Those provocative words she had just said relied entirely on the dim bar lighting; she and Maxim couldn’t really see each other’s expressions.

On a regular day, one look from Maxim would be enough to make her guilty; she couldn’t handle it.

Seeing her hesitating, Maxim’s patience was running thin, and he was worried about Summer’s current situation, so he prompted Tina, "Why are you still standing here? Didn’t you say you wanted to call Summer over to greet me and have a chat?"

"Ah... ah right... I’ll go find her now."

Maxim was really getting serious with her, and people nearby occasionally glanced their way.

Tina didn’t want to lose face, so she steeled herself to invite Maxim further in.

Who knew if the people she arranged had succeeded? If she and Maxim got there and Summer hadn’t fallen into the trap, today’s setup might be wasted.

Maxim looked at Tina, who was clearly flustered, and deliberately tried to scare her, "What’s wrong with you? Have you drunk too much, or done something you shouldn’t have, why do you seem so unsteady?"

Tina quickly placed a hand on her forehead, pretending to be a bit drunk, "I was just too happy earlier and without noticing, got forced into drinking a couple more glasses, now I feel a bit dizzy."

"It’s fine to be forced to drink, as long as it’s not spiked, it’s all good," Maxim said, his words having a hint of warning. Seeing Tina’s clear panic in her steps after hearing him, he inwardly smirked, and urged Tina again, "Why so slow, the place isn’t big! Where exactly is Summer?"

"I don’t know, maybe when she saw you coming, she hid," Tina pretended to be delirious from the alcohol, deliberately provoking Maxim, "Last time you ran into each other at the bridal shop, Summer pestered my brother for days to explain, and today she hasn’t shown up since you arrived, likely fearing my brother’s misunderstanding."

Hearing this, Assistant Collins was so scared, he slowed his steps to avoid being caught up in Maxim’s wrath later.

Tina’s life might not be in danger, but his still was!

Maxim looked at Tina deliberately pretending to be drunk in front of him, quickened his steps, and approached a nearby private room in the corridor, lifting his foot and kicking the door open.

Tina was startled by this scene.

How did he know Summer was in that room?

Before she could respond, Maxim already pulled out a man who was unconscious from the room.

Just then, Matthew arrived with bodyguards, "President Sinclair, let me handle this."

Maxim looked up and gave Tina a deep stare, took off his coat, and walked in, draping it over Summer, who was scantily clad.

Summer hugged a large vase in her arms, dazed.

Seeing her like this made Maxim’s heart ache, and he couldn’t help pulling her into an embrace, "Don’t be afraid, the person has been dealt with, with me here, no one will bully you."

Seeing this sudden turn of events, Tina’s rare moment of clarity made her rush over in panic, circling Summer anxiously, "What on earth happened? Weren’t you just talking to me? How are you suddenly here, and who is that guy? I clearly didn’t invite him. Sister-in-law, are you okay? He didn’t harm you, right?"

Summer pushed Maxim away, standing to the side, looking at Tina with a cold expression, "He didn’t do anything to me, I knocked him out with a vase. Call the police, have them investigate what this is all about!"

"You can’t call the police, sister-in-law," Tina shook her head, refusing, "Everyone here at the event today is well-known, calling the police would cause a huge commotion, and who knows what rumors this will stir? Where would their reputations go?"

"Don’t talk to me about this, for the first event to have such a situation, where does that leave my reputation? What about the onlookers at the door, what will they think of me?" Summer was unyielding, arguing logically, "Call the police, have them investigate and clear my name; otherwise, who knows what those people will say about me!"

Tina, naturally, didn’t dare let her call the police, so she approached and earnestly tried to persuade her, "You don’t need to worry, I’ll personally explain to those people, with me here, they won’t dare spread rumors. But really, we can’t call the police for this today. I can arrange for someone to start an investigation right now and give you a satisfactory answer."

The crowd of onlookers was growing at the entrance; Summer didn’t want to openly fall out with Tina at this moment, having no other solution but to temporarily yield, "Alright, investigate then, I’m tired and leaving now."

Summer took off the coat and tossed it into Maxim’s arms, leaving the bar without looking back.

Maxim lifted his gaze and signaled to Matthew behind the crowd, who understood and arranged for two bodyguards to follow Summer, maintaining a safe distance to ensure her safety.

As for Maxim himself, he stayed in the bar, not minding the spectacle, personally overseeing Tina’s investigation into the situation with that man.

Tina watched Maxim lounging on the sofa with closed eyes, refusing to leave despite persuasion, her heart burning with jealousy, losing all reason.

Why, why is he so concerned about Summer!

The bar manager, wary of offending both the Huxley and Sinclair families, quickly brought over the surveillance footage for Maxim and Tina to view.

The footage wouldn’t show anything unusual, as Tina had already prepared three days prior, damaging all the corridor surveillance cameras.

The manager could only provide clips from obscure locations, which were useless.

After watching them, Tina thoughtfully brought some food and warm water, personally placing them before Maxim, "Have something to eat. I remember you don’t eat much during social gatherings. It’s quite late now, you must be starving."

Maxim looked at the exquisitely arranged food before him, and, for once, gave Tina a smile.

Tina was dazzled by his smile, "Why are you smiling at me like this?"
