Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 164: Where Did It Go Wrong?
Maxim Sinclair, troubled by the fact that he only signed a one-year contract and dared not face the future, clutched the pen in his hand tightly. After a long time, he threw it away in frustration, propping his forehead with his hand, sighing helplessly: "But I have no way with her at all. She’s immune to both coercion and kindness. Other than using force, no other methods work."
"Young Master, you can’t force matters of the heart. You have to use sincerity to gain sincerity. Using forceful methods will only push Young Madam further away, especially since Young Madam seems to be a very strong-minded person." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
The butler, who had been taking care of him since he was very young, understood his temperament through years of interaction. Seeing his reaction now, he understood that Summer Lowell was indeed special to Maxim Sinclair.
Unwilling to see Maxim tormented by love like this, he offered his advice, albeit not from extensive experience: "I’ve seen those young masters trying to win their girlfriends’ hearts, sending gifts and traveling around the world. Perhaps you could try these tactics too, Young Master?"
"I already plan to do that, and I’ve even had someone draft a travel plan. I’m thinking of finding about a week to take Summer on a trip abroad. I remember her telling me she loves traveling; maybe taking a trip will make her a little happier."
"That’s good. I also heard that when others pursue girls, they often give gifts. Young Master, would you want to prepare some thoughtful gifts as well?"
Recalling the studio he had meticulously prepared only to be rejected, Maxim shook his head: "I prepared something, but she didn’t want it. What else can I do?"
The butler was amused by his troubled expression of unrequited love and couldn’t help but offer comfort: "There’s no need to rush, Young Master. As long as your sincerity is enough, Young Madam will see your true heart sooner or later. I remember a year ago, the first time I saw you with Young Madam, the way she looked at you was the same as all those girls who admired you, if not more passionately."
Maxim was hearing this for the first time and looked at the butler, somewhat incredulously: "Are you sure you didn’t remember wrong?"
"Of course not. Even though I’m up in years, my memory is quite good," the butler waved his hand with a smile. "You had once taken her to that hot spring town in the South for a holiday. At that time, there was an important document needed at home, and I personally delivered it to you. When I arrived, you were teaching Young Madam how to play ball, right?"
His words reminded Maxim of those brief, passionate times with Summer years ago.
Maxim nostalgically smiled: "Yes, at the time, I was teaching her squash. It was her first time, and she was clueless, blaming me for being a bad teacher when she couldn’t get it right, being completely unreasonable."
"She was only being playful with you. I distinctly remember the way she looked at you then was full of admiration. I just don’t understand how things ended up like this now."
The butler couldn’t help but sigh deeply.
Hearing this, Maxim’s face gradually became somber too.
Not only the butler but sometimes Maxim would wake up in the middle of the night, staring at Summer, who was clearly in his arms yet felt far away. He asked himself repeatedly where things had gone wrong, how did they end up at this point.
Clearly, she was the one at fault back then, yet instead of exacting any wild revenge on Summer for it, he tried everything possible to get close to her, to mend their broken relationship.
Unfortunately, Summer remained steadfast, either verbally attacking him or showing her aversion through actions.
Each incident was unbearable for Maxim.
Until, later on, provoked to the brink of irrationality, Maxim chose to watch coldly and took advantage of the situation to pull Summer closer to him.
At this point, Maxim suddenly remembered Justin Huxley, who had benefited greatly amidst the chaos.
That person had once saved Summer, thus feeling entitled, he resorted to all sorts of vile tactics, throwing mud at Maxim, making Summer blame everything on him now.
If it weren’t for Justin, he and Summer wouldn’t have reached this point.
But it didn’t matter—with Justin’s level and influence, he couldn’t stir up much trouble.
Right now, what mattered most was mending his relationship with Summer.
As for Justin Huxley, as long as he was prevented from taking over the Huxley Family, his flaws would eventually show.
By then, Summer would naturally understand who it was that truly caused her current plight.
...
The next day.
Melanie Sinclair parked her car in front of the villa, informed the security at the gate, and called the butler.
Having previously informed the butler, Melanie encountered little resistance and was able to enter Maxim Sinclair’s villa.
As soon as she entered, she came across the butler approaching her with gloves on, indicating he had been assisting the gardener with the garden.
Seeing Melanie arrive, the butler removed his gloves and ushered her politely into the living room, asking a maid to serve tea: "Miss Sinclair, please wait a moment. I’ll go upstairs and get the items Mr. Sinclair instructed for you."
"There’s no rush. I’m a bit thirsty, and it’d be nice to have a cup of tea here, right?"
"Miss Sinclair, you’re too polite. You can stay here as long as you wish, it’s no trouble at all."
After all, she had come at the behest of Old Master Sinclair.
Melanie looked up at the upstairs, implying: "I’m worried if I stay too long, I might intrude on my brother’s hidden beauty, and if I anger him, he might complain to Grandpa about me."
The butler chuckled but didn’t engage with her words, choosing instead to head upstairs to fetch the items.
Melanie looked around and found her curiosity piqued by a painting hanging not far away. She walked over to admire it closely.
The painting was cunningly placed at a corner.
Just as Melanie stopped, she overheard two maids watering plants in the small garden around the corner gossiping.
"Young Madam stays upstairs all day. That’s not good for her health. I see the butler is quite concerned. Do you think Young Madam and Young Master had a fight? Lately, whenever Young Master comes home, he’s in such a gloomy mood; it’s quite frightening."
"They did have a fight. Last night, the butler was discussing this with Young Master, saying it was something he did that displeased Young Madam, and he’s trying to find ways to make it up to her, saying he wants to take Young Madam on a trip."
"Wow, Young Madam is really lucky, to have Young Master go to such lengths to win her back. But we’ve also been put through quite a bit because of it. The butler has the chef cooking every day just to make something Young Madam likes. I wonder when Young Madam will stop being so downcast."
Melanie decided to sneak closer to the wall to listen more, but just then, the butler came back downstairs with the items, and she had to turn back around.
