Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 16: Summer Lowell Pretends to Compromise
Maxim Sinclair ignored her words, turned around, and went outside to bring breakfast, placing it in front of Summer Lowell: "Eat up, and rest well after you’re done."
Seeing that his tone had normalized a bit, Summer cautiously spoke, "Maxim Sinclair, can you take off this chain? I still have to go to work. Let’s talk this out, okay? Don’t do this kind of thing, please?"
"Ah, I almost forgot," Maxim feigned a look of sudden remembrance.
Already trembling like a frightened bird, Summer asked in a shaky voice, "What?"
Maxim walked over, picked up Summer’s phone, and casually entered the password. As he did, he glanced back at the bewildered Summer in bed and said, "I helped you take a leave."
At this moment, Summer had no energy to ask him how he knew her phone password. "Maxim Sinclair, please be reasonable. I apologize for what I just said, and for everything in the past, it really was my fault."
"Shh!" Maxim put a finger to his lips, looking at Summer tenderly, "The email has been sent. You’re exhausted; just rest well here. This is my Varden Villa—you’ve been here before."
Varden Villa was the most secluded of the villas owned by Maxim Sinclair.
When Summer was still his secretary, she had been here many times.
Before today, Summer had always had a good impression of this place—a great spot for leisure and vacation.
But now, Summer looked at the phone in Maxim’s hand with trembling eyes, fervently hoping that Noah would reject the leave email Maxim had sent.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as she wished.
Maxim laughed heartily, turned the phone around to face Summer: "Your boss is pretty nice, not only approved your leave but also told you to rest well and not to stress. Not bad. My Secretary Lowell is impressive, can win bosses over anywhere."
But in the next second, Maxim’s smile vanished completely. He looked at the despairing Summer, eyes dark and grim: "Summer, rest well. See you tonight."
"Wait," Summer called out as Maxim reached the door, negotiating amicably, "It’s boring being alone. Can I have my phone, or something to access the internet?"
In front of Summer, Maxim slipped her phone into his pocket and shook his head slowly, "Sweetheart, be good. Rest well, take a nap; I’ll be back when you wake up."
With that, Maxim locked the room door.
Inside, Summer looked at the slender chain on her hand, rolled off the bed, and began searching everywhere for something to break it.
But after searching, there was only a metal ornament by the window that could barely be used as a hammer.
As Summer raised the ornament, a voice from the surveillance camera on the ceiling spoke, it was Maxim: "Summer, be good. Don’t do pointless things, or I can’t guarantee what will happen tonight."
He was warning Summer not to mess around.
Summer looked expressionlessly at the blinking red camera, then resignedly returned to bed, lay down, and silently prayed for issues to arise in the project she was responsible for.
That way, Noah would definitely seek her out.
At the moment, it’s the only way she could leave Varden Villa.
All day long, Summer was trapped in the room at Varden Villa.
The room had all the necessary facilities, even a fridge stocked with food.
Looking at the array of food, then at the chain on her hand that wouldn’t come off, Summer couldn’t help but question when Maxim started planning to keep her captive.
The more she thought, the more chilling it felt for Summer.
She couldn’t help but regret, if she had known the dangers that awaited her upon returning home, she wouldn’t have come back for anything.
At this point, how could she possibly escape from Maxim Sinclair’s grip?
Pretend to compromise?
Another day passed.
As evening approached, Summer sat on the bed with bated breath, waiting for the devil, Maxim Sinclair, to arrive.
The clock on the wall pointed to 7:30, and Summer faintly heard the sound of a car engine outside the window. She threw off the covers and got out of bed, nervously watching the door.
Outside, Maxim placed the food he brought on a table, looked at the room with no light shining through, loosened his tie, and used his fingerprint to unlock the door.
Just as the door opened, he was caught in a fragrant embrace from inside.
Maxim froze for a second, then looked down at Summer, who was tightly holding onto his waist, and said in a discontented tone, "Secretary Lowell, what are you up to this time?"
Summer buried her face in his chest, her voice muffled, "Why are you back only now? I’ve waited for you all day."
"Got caught in traffic, so I was a bit late," Maxim instinctively replied, then continued to ask, "What’s wrong with you? Secretary Lowell, let me think, when were you last so enthusiastic, oh yes, the day you tried to steal my documents."
The figure in his arms stayed motionless, and Maxim raised an amused eyebrow: "Even if you keep holding on, it won’t help. I didn’t bring any documents today. I came back after finishing work at the office."
Upon hearing this, the person in his arms held him even tighter, "This house is so big, so big and empty. I feel so anxious being here alone."
Maxim turned his head, swallowed hard, and restrained his inner turmoil, speaking coldly, "If you’re anxious, then sleep. You won’t feel anxious if you fall asleep."
"I slept, but when I woke up the room was pitch black, I was all alone, even scarier." Summer clung to his waist, and after her complaint, she looked up at Maxim, "I’m hungry, the stuff in the fridge is not good."
Looking into her straightforward eyes, Maxim silently cursed.
Damn it!
This woman, why is she so good at bewitching people?
Maxim placed his hand on Summer’s around his back, lingered for a few seconds, then pulled away ruthlessly: "I know you haven’t eaten much, so I packed some of your favorite homemade dishes. Go wash your hands and come eat."
Summer was stunned, and when Maxim urged her again, she replied with a confused "hmm."
When she came out after washing her hands, Maxim had already set the food on the bedroom table.
"Eating in the bedroom?" Summer frowned and asked Maxim.
"What else? Unchain you and let you eat in the living room and then escape when I’m not looking?" Maxim replied without turning around, exposing Summer’s little scheme.
Taking advantage of his unseen gaze, Summer rolled her eyes and walked over to sit closely beside Maxim.
Maxim glanced at the overly forward Summer and sneered, "Aren’t you hungry? Eat, getting handsy isn’t your style."
"This house... is terrifyingly empty. Aren’t you scared living here alone?" Summer acted as if she was still shaken.
Maxim pushed a bowl of hot soup in front of Summer, "I haven’t done anything wrong, so what’s there to be scared of?"
Summer silently grumbled in her heart, but outwardly acted cowed: "Maxim, you’re a magnanimous person, let’s not make a fuss over what I said, okay?"
Maxim?
This woman actually called him Maxim?
What trick is she pulling now?
"Huh, Summer, you should know, I’m not a magnanimous person."
"No, you are!" Summer nodded emphatically, then placed her hand on Maxim’s shoulder, her eyes alluring, "You’re the most generous person I’ve ever met."
