Chapter 159: Chapter 159: The Villain Files the First Complaint

"If it’s something about Summer, even if it’s inconvenient for me, I have to make it convenient." Vivian Sullivan took the phone directly and dialed Summer Lowell’s number. As soon as the call connected, she asked seriously, "Your senior came to see me today, and he told me some things. Summer, where are you now?"

Next to the artificial lake in Varden Villa District, Summer was sitting on a bamboo chair, enjoying the breeze and the view. Hearing Vivian’s questioning tone over the phone, she sighed softly, "I’m by the lake, just enjoying the scenery at the Varden Villa—the same one you once said we’d never be able to afford even if we worked all our lives. I’m doing great, so don’t worry about me."

"Varden Villa? You’ve moved to Maxim Sinclair’s place?" Vivian’s expression turned even worse upon hearing this. "Besides that contract, did Maxim force you to do something else?"

Contract?

Justin Huxley sharply raised his eyes. He had never heard of this before. So what kind of contract did Summer and Maxim have between them?

Summer on the other end also guessed that Justin must be nearby Vivian. She paused and interrupted Vivian’s questioning, lowering her voice, "There are some things I don’t want him to know about. Can you step away from him?"

Vivian glanced at Justin, who was intently watching her, and shook her head apologetically before walking ten meters away. Only then did she say into the phone, "I’m about ten meters away from your senior now. You can speak; he won’t hear."

"I don’t know what tactics Maxim Sinclair used exactly. Anyway, I’ve already resigned from Stellart. As for the future, I’ll see what happens. After all, the contract still has a year to go."

"How can he treat you like this?"

"Forget it, what’s the use of talking about this now?"

After about half an hour, Vivian returned to the pavilion looking dejected.

Justin, who had been waiting patiently, stood up and looked at her, saying earnestly, "Can you arrange to meet Summer? I’m really worried and want to see how she’s doing now. But whenever I try to meet her, she politely declines, and I’m a bit uneasy."

Seeing Justin’s worried expression, Vivian regretfully shook her head.

What a perfect match they would have been!

Unfortunately, there’s Maxim Sinclair in the middle, causing all this trouble.

Vivian lowered her head, conflicted for a while, but finally nodded in agreement. No other reason could convince her; she just couldn’t resist Justin’s earnest and pleading eyes.

The next morning, Summer, following the address Vivian had given her, arrived at a café very close to Mercy Hospital.

The server led Summer to a window-side, secluded corner on the second floor, where she immediately spotted Justin, who had been waiting for a long time.

"Is Vivian not coming today?" Summer asked as she sat across from Justin.

"She will come. She’s also very worried about you. She just has a class now and will need about forty more minutes to get here," Justin replied.

Summer chuckled, "So, senior, what brings you to meet me?"

"I’m a bit worried about you," Justin said, his brows furrowed with melancholy. "Maxim Sinclair... Summer, it’s my fault for letting you down."

Summer was taken aback, "Why would you think that, senior? What happened between him and me, how does it relate to you?"

Justin raised a hand to wipe his face, sighing deeply as he explained to Summer, "The Huxley family relations are complicated, and it’s a long story, not easy to explain. Old Master Huxley was quite the philanderer in his younger days, resulting in many illegitimate children. My father is one of them. Now, among my generation of grandsons, there’s one who has a good relationship with Maxim Sinclair, wanting to leverage his help to inherit the Huxley family business."

Summer blinked, somewhat perplexed, "So how does this relate to me?"

This matter was actually unrelated to Summer, but Justin knew the importance of her to Maxim Sinclair. Even without a direct connection, he had to tie it in.

"You know Tina Huxley, right? She calls my father Uncle, and is very close to him. And the one Maxim supports always wanted to deal with me. Maxim has been opposing me to help that person he’s supporting, and since you and I have been friends for years, Maxim thought of using you against me."

After saying that, Justin looked at Summer with an apologetic gaze, "I’m really sorry, Summer, I never thought that this matter would drag you in. It’s all my fault!"

Summer stared at him blankly, recalling the pile of documents Maxim Sinclair showed her in the office a few days ago.

No wonder Maxim emphasized to her that the person who put her in this position was Justin Huxley; he had such calculations behind his actions!

"Summer, this is all my fault. I should have hidden our relationship earlier. Now you’ve lost your job, struggling to move ahead in Stellarion. I don’t know how to make it up to you!"

"You don’t need to apologize to me, senior. The one who brought me to this situation is Maxim Sinclair, not you. If you truly want to vent for me, then pull yourself together. Maybe when you’re capable enough in the future, I might need your influence to return to the jewelry design industry."

Justin nodded solemnly, "Yes, I remember how you got embroiled in this because of me, and someday, I will help you vent this anger."

Summer wasn’t particularly concerned about venting; she was already in a confused state, uncertain of the way forward.

Unsure of how to face her feelings toward Maxim Sinclair.

"So what’s your plan now? Stay by his side? Do you want me to think of a way to get you out?"

Summer thought for a moment but firmly shook her head, "Senior, you should focus on handling your own matters first. Honestly, I’m not entirely in this situation because of you. I originally had unresolved debts with him, so don’t feel too guilty. As I see it, you’re the one being dragged down by me."

"Why do you say that?" Justin asked in confusion, raising an eyebrow at Summer, "You’re just trying to comfort me, aren’t you?"

Summer shook her head, unwilling to explain what exactly the grievances were between her and Maxim Sinclair.

Right at that moment, Vivian arrived.

Vivian rushed up to Summer and pulled her up, examining her closely from head to toe, then hugged her with misty eyes, "You’ve lost so much weight since last time I saw you. You must have endured a lot these days." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"It’s not that exaggerated, just not in a good mood," Summer pulled Vivian to sit down beside her, "Earlier, you said you had an important class and needed more than forty minutes to get here. How come you’re here now?"

"You’re more important than my class," Vivian looked at Summer, then at Justin, "You two really have bad luck together. One lost their job because of Maxim Sinclair, and the other had their project snatched. Maxim Sinclair is truly detestable."

"Snatched project?" Summer looked up in surprise at Justin, "Senior, Maxim took your project?"
