Conquering the underworld with my beautiful dragon wives-Chapter 39: When the Light Moved In—The Light That Found Us
Light...
Not warm, not cold.
Not comforting, not scary.
Not life, not death.
It just was.
And then... it wasn’t anymore.
The sound of breathing, footsteps, the world—it all faded. Even the sense of time... just stopped.
Then suddenly, something cracked. Like the sound of a giant bubble popping.
Ethan’s eyes opened.
Not in the hall of truth.
Not on the golden bridge.
But on the wooden floor of the cabin.
Sunlight peeked through half-burned curtains. The air still smelled like dirt, burnt wood, and half-finished tea.
Ethan took a deep breath and sat up.
But before he could say anything, he saw his hand.
On the skin of his right hand, something was carved in.
Not ink.
Not a wound.
It looked like his skin had chosen to write it.
The shape... was weird.
Three circles, stuck together, and inside each one, a symbol:
The first looked like an upside-down drop.
The second, a straight line with two curves on each side.
The third... just an open eye.
Like a seal.
Not magical. Not tech.
Something beyond.
Right then, two books had fallen by his pillow.
One small and thin, simple cover, with a title in gold letters on black:
"Write, and It Shall Be."
Next to it, a huge, heavy book, covered in something that wasn’t really leather or stone.
It shimmered, but not with light.
And on it:
"Secrets of Existence – Endless Edition."
Ethan just stared at them. Like his brain was loading something his mouth couldn’t even begin to explain.
At that moment, fayra’s voice came from the kitchen:
"Did anyone else dream we ate the universe? Or was that just me?"
Luna, still sleepy but cute, said:
"Swear to god I saw us walking on a golden bridge and some multi-mask creature giving us life advice..."
Selena pushed her hair back with a sigh.
"No... I saw myself fighting... me. But it didn’t feel fake. Just a moment. Then poof—gone."
alice walked into the room, colder than usual. Her eyes went straight to the books.
"We’re back. But... something’s still not over."
Ethan raised his hand in silence and showed them the seal.
Everyone went quiet.
Luna whispered:
"What... is that?"
Ethan spoke for the first time that morning.
His voice was soft, but firm.
"I don’t know. But I feel like... this time, we didn’t find something. Something found us."
alice sat down and picked up the big book—Secrets of Existence.
She opened the first page.
No words.
But what she saw... took her breath away.
There was only one sentence on the page:
"Understanding this book is the end of reason. Only hearts free of fear can move forward."
And right then, the page started shifting.
The words began to dance.
Not with logic.
Not with grammar.
But with feeling.
Like the book... was alive.
Ethan picked up the smaller book.
On the cover, he wrote:
"Wish I had a real cup of coffee."
Nothing happened.
But five seconds later...
Knock knock.
The cabin door creaked open.
And... an old man walked in, holding a tray.
On the tray—a steaming cup of coffee.
The old man said nothing. Just set it on the table, turned, and walked out without even looking back.
Luna:
"Wait whaaaaat?! Did that really just happen?!"
Ethan smiled.
"We’re still in that light... The only difference is, the light’s not out there anymore. It’s inside us."
The silence in the cabin wasn’t peaceful.
It was the kind of silence that shows up right after you see something impossible.
Fayra cleared her throat like something was stuck in it.
"So... is anyone gonna explain? ’Cause if you don’t, I swear I’m making up a theory with time travel, supernatural beings, and ghost-brewed coffee!"
Selena chuckled.
"I’ve got a rule now. When an old man shows up from nowhere with coffee, I stop asking philosophical questions."
But Alice didn’t laugh.
She just kept staring at the second book.
Her lips were whispering something silently, but her eyes were moving across the lines like crazy.
Ethan said,
"That book... it’s thinking. Like it’s alive. But not like a creature. More like—it’s watching us. From inside and outside. At the same time."
Fayra looked shaken.
"I feel like... a third eye opened in my mind or something. Since that light... it’s like I’m understanding things I’m not supposed to."
Everyone turned to Ethan.
Luna asked curiously,
"What did you write in that little book?"
Ethan took a sip of his coffee.
Then smiled a strange little smile.
"It was just a test. But now the real question is—if we can write anything and it happens... should we?"
Silence.
Alice finally looked up from the big book.
"This thing knows everything... past, present, future. Even stuff we haven’t decided yet. It says, ’This world isn’t built from nothing. It’s built from perspectives.’
And the weirdest part? There was a line at the bottom of the page—
’Only the one who masters himself can shape reality.’"
Fayra stepped closer and tapped the small book.
"Okay then. Lemme try something."
With a grin, she wrote:
"Right now, we’re all eating giant orange popsicles."
And everyone laughed...
Until six giant orange popsicles literally dropped from the ceiling. Perfectly lined up.
Silence.
Then screams.
Then Luna’s laugh:
"OH MY GOD THIS IS REAL! I mean I knew I speak the language of the world, but this? This is like playing with a diary of wishes!"
Selena turned back to the big book.
A new page opened—on its own.
It had only three lines:
"Law One: Whatever you write, affects the universe.
Law Two: Whatever you understand, becomes a part of you.
Law Three: A law is not a law until you know it."
Ethan stared.
"So what are we? Gods now? Or just... tools?"
Alice replied softly,
"Neither. We’re writers. But the kind that’s inside the story."
Suddenly, the mark on Ethan’s hand started to warm up.
Not hot. Not painful. Just a deep heat. Like... the heartbeat of the universe.
The eye in the center of the mark opened—just a little more.
Ethan felt something.
Not from outside.
From inside.
Not voices.
But memories he never had.
And then... a voice.
"You were chosen. Because you’re the only one who never asked: Why me?"
Ethan exhaled slowly.
Then said, serious as hell:
"I think it’s time we asked where these books came from... and why the hell we’re back in this cabin, not in the Hall of Truth." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Right then, a faint sound echoed from deep inside the cabin.
The big book flipped a page on its own.
No hands.
And it wrote:
"The next part begins when you choose which one to read.
Oh—and whoever finishes the first book...
can’t stay human anymore."
Everyone turned to look at Ethan.
Almost by instinct.
But Ethan...
He just smiled.
And said:
"Maybe it’s time we redefine what it means to be human."
