Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off-Chapter 366: The Burning Totem
The tension finally snapped. The silence of the evil beasts exploded into a wall of noise as they attacked from all sides. It was a chaotic mess of growls from both sides.
Hu Yan was a whirlwind of orange and black, his tiger claws shredding any beast that came near the circle.
Beside him, the young lions and foxes fought with everything they had.
Even Tu Yelang, the Rabbit Tribe leader, was kicking out with powerful legs, his face pale but determined. But there were just too many evil ferocious beasts. For every beast they knocked down, three more jumped over the pile to snap at the females.
"There are too many!" Elder Bao shouted, his breath coming in ragged gasps. "We can’t hold them all!"
The circle was buckling. A group of mutated wolves broke through the line, their eyes fixed on the basket of cubs in Su Qinglan’s arms. Su Qinglan pulled her bone knife, her heart hammering against her ribs.
Suddenly, a shadow darker than the night swept across the grass.
Xuan Long, who had been standing perfectly still behind Su Qinglan like a silent statue, finally moved. He simply uncoiled his massive, heavy tail and gave it one powerful, horizontal whip across the battlefield.
BOOM! 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
The sound was like a mountain collapsing.
The sheer force of the strike created a gust of wind that nearly knocked the females off their feet.
A huge wave of evil ferocious beasts—at least fifty of them—were sent flying into the air like they were made of straw. They crashed into the distant trees with sickening thuds and cleared out of the area in a single second.
The battlefield went deathly silent. The remaining evil beasts skidded to a halt, looking at the massive green-scaled snake in pure terror.
The Fox Tribe members were speechless, their jaws hanging open. They had known Xuan Long was a high-level beastman, but they hadn’t realized he was this powerful.
Hu Yan, who was covered in blood and panting heavily, stared at the empty space where the evil ferocious beasts used to be.
He looked at Xuan Long, then back at the empty forest, then back at Xuan Long.
"You! "Hu Yan screamed, his voice cracking with indignation.
"You... why didn’t you help before?! We were dying out here!"
Xuan Long turned his huge head slowly. His vertical pupils were calm and cold. He looked at Hu Yan for a long time before his low, vibrating voice echoed through the valley.
"You didn’t ask."
Hu Yan felt like he was going to vomit blood. His ears twitched violently, and his tail lashed the ground.
He wanted to scream, but he remembered that he was the one who told Xuan Long to "stay back and only focus on the females." He had treated the strongest warrior in the group like a babysitter!
"I... you... fine!" Hu Yan huffed, his chest heaving. "I’m asking now! Clean the path!"
The surrounding tribe members shivered as they watched Hu Yan openly yell at the giant snake.
They looked at Xuan Long’s massive size...how his body was thicker than the trunk of an ancient tree and they wondered if Hu Yan had a death wish.
Was he not afraid the big snake would swallow him whole?
If Xuan Long just took a stroll, he could probably crush the entire beast tide under his weight.
Xuan Long didn’t get angry at Hu Yan. He simply flicked his tongue and looked at Su Qinglan. Seeing her nod, he began to glide forward.
Every time his tail twitched, a beast was sent flying. The "invincible" ambush was being cleared away like dust under a broom.
"Ohh... my," a rabbit female whispered in awe, clutching her cub. "He is so powerful..."
Soon, the battlefield slowly grew quiet.
Where there had once been a wall of red eyes and snapping jaws, now there were only scattered bodies and a few trembling beasts left alive.
Xuan Long moved like a cold storm through the remaining enemies.
Every flick of his tail sent a beast flying. His scales glowed faintly, stained with dark blood, but his movements were still smooth and effortless.
It was as if he wasn’t fighting a tide of monsters at all. He was simply cleaning them away.
The younger foxes stared in awe. Their earlier despair slowly turned into hope as the number of beasts thinned.
Hu Yan, panting heavily, stood beside him. His side was still bleeding, but his eyes were bright.
"Ha... looks like we might actually survive this," he muttered.
Within moments, only a few injured beasts remained. They whimpered and backed away, too afraid to charge again.
Su Qinglan watched the scene with relief flooding her heart.
But then...
Her heart suddenly thumped hard in her chest.
A sharp, burning pain spread through her arm. She gasped and looked down. Her eyes widened in horror.
The wolf totem on her arm was glowing faintly red. The skin around it had turned hot and flushed, as if it were being burned from the inside.
The pain grew stronger.
"Aah...!"
A scream escaped her lips before she could stop it.
Hu Yan and Xuan Long both froze. They turned their heads at the same time.
"Lan Lan!" Hu Yan roared.
Xuan Long’s eyes turned sharp. Without hesitation, both of them abandoned the remaining beasts and rushed toward her.
In the basket, Xiao Yi suddenly poked his small head out. His little nose twitched as he smelled the strange heat coming from her arm.
He tilted his head, confused, and gently licked her arm with his tiny tongue.
But the moment his tongue touched the skin...
"Yip!"
He hissed in pain and pulled back, his small tongue reddening from the burning sensation.
Su Qinglan’s heart clenched.
"Xiao Yi!" she whispered. She quickly pushed his head back into the basket, shielding him with her other arm.
"Stay inside," she said softly, even though her voice trembled.
By then, Hu Yan and Xuan Long had already reached her. Hu Yan’s eyes widened when he saw her arm.
"What’s happening to you?" he asked, panic creeping into his voice.
