Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Punishment from Beast God

He was careful not to mention to his father that he had actually been caught and interrogated. In his own mind, he was still very clever. He convinced himself that letting her go was part of a bigger plan.

His father nodded, a cold smile on his face.

"Alright. If she is as beautiful as you say, I will take her for you. Fox females are famous for being beautiful and very fertile. I have heard rumors that their tribe has many new cubs recently. That means they are good at breeding."

Hearing the word "cubs" made the young man freeze for a moment. He remembered the strange, round basket Su Qinglan was holding. He remembered the faint, milky scent of small animals coming from it.

Oh, Beast God, he thought with a frown. Does she already have cubs? If he became her mate, the laws of the beast world meant he might have to take care of her existing cubs if she insisted.

The thought made him feel very annoyed. "It is such a hassle to take care of someone else’s cubs," he muttered to himself.

He especially did not want to raise the children of that terrifying snake man. It would be much better if the cubs died in the tide along with their fathers.

That way, the female would be clean and ready to start a new family with him.

Just as the father and son were discussing their cruel plans for the Fox Tribe, a dry coughing sound came from the entrance of the cave.

Both of them stopped talking immediately and turned their heads toward the entrance of the cave.

The Witch Doctor emerged slowly, leaning heavily on an old wooden stick. His skin was like wrinkled bark, and his eyes were thin slits that seemed to see through walls.

"I hope I am not disturbing the Tribe Leader and the Young Master with my presence," he said, his voice sounding like dry leaves rubbing together.

The moment they heard him, the Bird Tribe Leader and his son immediately changed their expressions.

They stood up and rushed toward him with fawning smiles, acting as if he were a god.

"No, no, Witch Doctor! You are our savior!" the Tribe Leader exclaimed, his voice full of fake warmth.

"How could you ever disturb us? Please, come and sit here." He quickly vacated his own high stone seat, gesturing for the old man to take the most honorable spot in the cave.

The son also moved quickly, bringing a soft fur to place behind the old man’s back.

After many constant pleasantries and respectful bows, the Witch Doctor finally sat down with a small, weary sigh. He looked at the two bird men with a mysterious gaze.

"The Fox Tribe has really grown too arrogant," the Witch Doctor said, his voice cold.

"They have gained too much in too short a time. They have angered the Beast God with their greed. It is only right that they are punished. We are simply helping the Beast God carry out his will."

He paused, tapping his stick on the stone floor. "How could they actually shelter people from the Black Temple? Anyone who touches that unclean power must be wiped out to keep our world pure."

The young beastman chimed in immediately, his voice full of spite.

"Yes! How could they be so greedy? No wonder their tribe suddenly has so many new things, like those strange houses and new foods."

"Even during the rainy season, when every other tribe was suffering, they were protected. It must be black magic! There is no other way they could have survived so easily while we struggled."

The Tribe Leader nodded firmly, his face twisting with jealousy. "We cannot allow someone from the Black Temple to live among us. They are a danger to everyone. There is no place for people like the foxes in our world. They are the cruelest, most selfish people I have ever known."

The young man’s anger grew as he remembered the beautiful Su Qinglan and the powerful snake.

"And because of them, no other smaller tribes came to us seeking shelter during the rainy season! Everyone went to the Fox Tribe instead. They deliberately took all the attention of the other tribes, leaving us with nothing. Now, we are short on food because we didn’t have enough workers or tribes to trade with."

He gnashed his teeth in fury. "We almost starved to death while they were eating meat and living in comfort. They stole the resources that should have been ours. They took the people who should have served the Bird Tribe!"

The Witch Doctor let out a low, dark chuckle.

"Do not worry. The beast tide does not care about their warm houses or their black magic. Thousands of ferocious beasts are already gathering."

"They are already following the scent of their dead cubs. Within a week, the Fox Tribe’s mountain will be covered in blood, and all those beautiful things they built will be trampled into the mud."

The Bird Tribe Leader smiled cruelly. "Then we will just wait at the top of our mountain and watch the show. When the foxes are mostly dead, we will fly down to ’save’ the few we want. We will take their food stocks, their tools, and their fertile females."

The young son’s eyes flashed with hunger. "And I will take that female. I will make her watch as her mountain burns so she knows that only the Bird Tribe can truly protect her."

They all sat in the cave, their hearts full of hate and greed. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

They truly believed they were the "good" ones in this story.

In their minds, the Fox Tribe deserved to die simply because they had prospered through what they called black magic.

They couldn’t accept that hard work and knowledge were the real reasons for the tribe’s success.

"It is obvious," the Tribe Leader said, leaning back.

"Why else would the esteemed Witch Doctor of the Fox Tribe leave his own people? He is a man of honor. He clearly left because he couldn’t bear to support people with such bad characters and unclean magic."

The old man didn’t say anything at first.

The Witch Doctor leaned down on his old stick, his long hair completely hiding his face from the others.

In the shadows, a strange smile appeared on his lips, and a mysterious glint flashed in his eyes. He didn’t bother to correct them.

He liked that they thought he was a hero, even though his heart was full of his own dark plans.

The young bird man nodded eagerly. "Exactly! We are the righteous ones here. We are just cleaning up the forest."

But unknown to the Witch Doctor and the two bird men, they were not alone.

Near the cold stone wall of the cave, a very small, dark green snake slithered across the floor. It moved with perfect silence, its belly scales barely making a sound against the rock. It passed right behind the Tribe Leader’s stone seat.

No one noticed it, or more they didn’t care. In the forest, these types of small, non-poisonous animals were everywhere.

To a powerful beastman, a tiny snake posed no threat at all. They saw it as nothing more than a mindless pest, not worth a second glance.

The small snake did not stop or linger. It flicked its tongue once, catching the scent of the Witch Doctor and the Bird Tribe Leader, and then it silently slithered away toward the cave entrance.

It moved through the cracks in the rocks and disappeared into the tall grass of the mountain slope without ever looking back.
