Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off-Chapter 329: The Coming Beast Tide
Su Qinglan sat frozen on the floor, the weight of the sleeping Xiao Yi in her lap feeling heavier than ever.
Her mind was racing. How could a beast tide be happening now? The tribe had only just survived a disastrous rainy season that nearly washed them away.
They were finally beginning to enjoy peace, and now a wave of death was heading toward them.
She realized then that in this world, beauty and danger always walked hand in hand. You could never let your guard down.
"Xuyu!" she called out to the system in her mind, her voice sharp with panic. "What is the reason for this? Why a beast tide now?"
The system’s mechanical voice responded calmly, which only made her more anxious.
"Host, the exact cause is currently unknown to me. I have only detected the massive movement of energy and the scent of bloodlust from the deep forest. My primary function is to monitor and protect the population of the beast world. New cubs, like yours, are the future of this world. If they are in danger, I must act."
Su Qinglan’s heart sank. "So you only got to know about this because of the cubs?"
"Saving the population of beastmen is my utmost priority," the system replied.
"In my current prediction, the Fox Tribe village is in a direct path of destruction. The sheer number of ferocious beasts will be unlike anything this tribe has seen in generations."
Su Qinglan felt a cold chill run down her spine.
"Then give me tips! Tell me how to build the defenses! We have the Lion Tribe merging with us, surely we can fight!"
There was a brief silence before the system spoke again, and this time the tone felt almost grim.
"Host, my ultimate advice is this. Gather your family and the most important resources, and leave this place. Abandon the village."
Su Qinglan’s face turned deathly pale. "No..." she whispered under her breath, her eyes widening.
"How can you say that?" she yelled internally at the system.
"How can the tribe be destroyed just like this? My father has worked his whole life for this place! We have built new houses, stored food, and created a home with so much dedication and love. We can’t just run away!"
"Based on the current strength of the Fox Tribe and the incoming tide, the probability of survival is less than ten percent," the system stated bluntly.
"The village is located in a mountain that will become a death trap because it will be surrounded from all sides, leaving no escape routes. If you stay, the fox tribe is bound to be destroyed."
Su Qinglan looked around the room, at the warm fire, the smell of Han Jue’s noodles, and the innocent faces of her sleeping cubs.
The thought of all this being turned into ash and blood made her feel sick.
"I won’t let it happen," she muttered, her jaw tightening. "I don’t care about the percentages. If I have eight days, I have eight days to change the future."
She looked up at Han Jue, who was watching her with deep concern. She knew she couldn’t run.
If she ran, they all would become homeless.
Su Qinglan’s face went so pale that she looked like she might faint. Seeing this, Han Jue immediately stepped forward.
He gently took the sleeping cubs from her arms and placed them on a soft fur rug before pulling Su Qinglan into a firm embrace.
"Qinglan, what is it? Why are you so stunned?" he asked, his voice low and full of worry.
Xuan Long moved closer as well, kneeling in front of her and taking her cold hands in his. His emerald eyes searched hers, sensing the waves of terror coming from her heart.
At that moment, the door hide was pushed open. Hu Yan and Rong Ye sneaked back inside, looking nervous.
They were still worried that she was going to scold them for swatting Xiao Yi’s bottom, but the lecture they expected never came. Instead, they were frozen by the sight of her trembling form and the heavy silence in the room.
Su Qinglan looked at all four of her husbands.
She took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice. "If I told you that the Fox Tribe is going to be destroyed very soon, would you believe me?"
The room went deathly still. The shock on their faces was immediate.
Hu Yan and Han Jue were the most affected. They had been born and raised in this tribe. Every tree and every stone was a part of their soul. To hear that their home was marked for death felt like a knife to the chest.
Rong Ye’s jaw dropped in disbelief, while Xuan Long remained eerily silent, his gaze never leaving her face.
"Why would you say such a thing, Lan Lan?" Hu Yan asked, his voice shaking. "The rainy season is over. We are stronger than ever. What could destroy us?"
"A beast tide," she whispered, the words feeling like lead. "A ferocious, evil tide is coming. I just know it. You have to believe me."
She didn’t mention the system or the blue screens. She couldn’t. But she looked at them with such desperate sincerity that they couldn’t doubt her.
In their eyes, Su Qinglan was a female blessed by the Beast God. She had brought them seeds, knowledge, and prosperity. If she saw a vision of the future, it had to be true.
She would never joke about the home where she had grown up.
"Eight days," she continued, her voice gaining a bit of firmness. "My intuition tells me we have only eight days before it hits."
Everyone began talking at once. "How many beasts?" Rong Ye asked.
"Which direction are they coming from?" Han Jue pressed.
Xuan Long finally spoke, his voice cutting through the noise. "If she says it is coming, it is coming. Instead of asking how she knows, we should be asking how we are going to survive."
Su Qinglan looked at Xuan Long, grateful for his support. She knew the Fox Tribe wasn’t built for a war of this scale.
The system had told her to run with the tribe members, but looking at the faces of her cubs, she knew she had to fight.
