Claimed by My Ex's Half-Brother-Chapter 238 The Return
Lilith’s POV
In this city of twenty million people, trying to find an Alpha who had completely blocked me was like searching for a single drop of water in the ocean. I stood on the street, gazing at the city’s glittering night scene.
The only person I could still contact was Brett’s Beta, Cassian, who had grown up with us.He was married to Sabrina,my best friend...no, my former best friend. I hoped he would help me for old times’ sake.
I had begged him for days through calls and messages, pleading desperately. But Cassian remained hesitant, refusing to take me to meet Brett. I knew that as Beta, he had to be loyal to his Alpha.
That night, around eight, I held Clara and waited at a spot along Cassian’s patrol route. I could smell his scent getting closer. When his headlights appeared, I rushed out, blocking the exit.
He got out of the car, wearing that familiar look of helpless reluctance. As Beta, his aura was intimidating, but it no longer affected me. My wolf nature had been too weakened by the disease.
"Lilith, you know I would help if I could," he rubbed his hands together. "But Alpha Brett... he really doesn’t want to see you. You know how much he hates you."
Hate me? Of course I knew. Five years ago, I was first sentenced in human court for corporate espionage and attempted murder. Then within the pack, I was brought before the Alpha Council. My own father, Silas, announced my banishment from Shadowpine Pack for "betraying the pack" and "endangering Alpha’s life."
The moment he pronounced my banishment, I felt it,that excruciating pain as pack bond shattered within me.
It was a cold winter night, with snow falling heavily, but colder still was Brett’s gaze as he stood at the prison gates. He refused to hear my explanations, delivering his rejection. I’ll never forget those blue eyes of his.
"I, Alpha Brett, reject you, Lilith, as my mate."
The agony of rejection combined with the severing of pack bonds, the double pain nearly destroyed me. It felt like my heart had been ripped out and torn apart. Thea thrashed and howled within me, weakened by the devastating pain.
That night, I lost everything.
In that silver-walled cage, I barely survived giving birth to Clara. After release,I became a Rogue with my daughter. Without a pack,I didn’t dare shift, desperately suppressing my wolf nature. With a prison record, most companies wouldn’t hire me. I had to bounce between part-time jobs just to support Clara and myself.
I thought if I was strong enough, I could protect Clara and give her a peaceful life... Who would have guessed that a werewolf genetic disease would find me?
I don’t care how much Brett hates me. I only know one thing. what will happen to Clara when I’m gone? Without a pack’s protection, a motherless wolf cub won’t just face bullying and contempt, she might not even survive! For her, I’m willing to throw away all my pride and dignity.
I blocked Cassian’s path desperately, then grabbed his arm. Finally, holding Clara, I sat on the ground and clung to his legs. I could feel my wolf Thea aching at my humiliation, but I didn’t care anymore. I looked up, tears welling in my eyes, my voice unfamiliar even to myself as I begged.
"Cassian! Please! For the sake of our friendship, just let us see Brett once! Just once! I’m begging you!"
Cassian bent down, trying to pry my arms loose. He looked even more troubled."Lilith, if you... if you bring this pup to Alpha Brett, you’ll only enrage him. You know he thinks she’s yours and Finn’s..." He didn’t finish, but I understood his meaning. "Think this through!"
"Cassian," my voice was hoarse, "I won’t let go unless you take me to him." In my arms, Clara seemed to sense my desperation and trembling, her small hands clutching tightly at my clothes.
Finally, Cassian let out a long sigh and gave in.
Half an hour later, his car stopped in front of the pack house. This place, with its luxurious grandeur, felt worlds away from my life as a Rogue.
Cassian probably thought the pack house was empty when he led us into the reception room. But under the bright lights, the scene before us pierced both me and Thea to our core.
Vanessa sat on the sofa, her freshly washed hair flowing loose, giving off a faint vanilla scent. And Brett, that cold-hearted Alpha, was tenderly drying and combing through her hair, his eyes full of affection. His fingers played with her hair strands as he whispered something, his expression so focused as if Vanessa was his entire world.
Only when Vanessa exclaimed "Sis!" did Brett follow her gaze to us. His Alpha aura instantly filled the room, nearly suffocating me.
Cassian cleared his throat awkwardly."Alpha Brett, Lilith has been trying to reach you. She seems to have something urgent to discuss. Perhaps... you two should talk?"
Brett’s POV
I froze, my eyes locked on Lilith and her daughter. That small, fragile figure.
Her pup with Finn was this big already?
The realization drove into my chest like a spike of shame. A sharp pain hit me, the smile vanishing from my face, replaced by cold fury. I kept my expression rigid, fighting to control the emotions churning inside.
Jacob, my wolf, growled in my mind. "How dare she show up here? She betrayed us five years ago, now she brings that bastard back?"
I silently agreed. Lilith had vanished after prison, and now she dared appear before me. Did she think I’d forget how she betrayed me with Finn five years ago?
Back then, I lay in a hospital bed, severely wounded from an ambush by unknown wolves. While I fought for my life, I felt an excruciating pain in my abdomen.
Later, Vanessa told me that Lilith had helped Finn steal Aurora Bioscience’s research secrets. The ambush that nearly killed me was likely planned by Finn’s pack.
Vanessa showed me photos of Lilith with Finn.So that explained my physical agony. In werewolf world, after marking your mate, you feel intense pain when your mate has sex with someone other than you. It’s the Moon Goddess’s way of punishment.
When I was nearly dead, she was in Finn’s arms, letting him fuck her. Jacob howled in agony as our mate’ betrayal.
Time seemed to freeze, and the room fell into dead silence.
Cassian stood there awkwardly. My Beta should have known better than to bring uninvited guests into my pack house. Especially her.
Lilith looked uneasy, her gaze moving between me and her daughter. She was thinner than I remembered, her once vibrant face now hollow and worn. Good. Let her suffer as I had.
"Alpha Brett," she finally spoke, "may I have a few minutes of your time?"
Alpha Brett? The formality was almost laughable. This woman who once wrapped her legs around my waist, who used to whisper my name softly, "Brett, Brett," now stood before me like a stranger.
I forced those thoughts down.
I turned to Vanessa, who looked somewhat startled, and stroked her hair again. "Let me finish drying your hair."
I deliberately ignored Lilith’s request. After a minute or two, Vanessa caught my hand, gently reminding me, "Brett, that’s enough. Lilith is waiting."
I noticed how Vanessa looked radiant in her expensive clothes, like a flower in full bloom. In contrast, Lilith’s dark cotton jacket had faded from washing, her whole appearance disheveled and haggard, like a withering leaf.
Without looking at Lilith, I said softly to Vanessa, "You just came back from the hospital and you’re still recovering. You’ll catch cold if your hair stays wet."
Jacob growled in my mind, "Ignore her, Brett. She doesn’t deserve our attention."
I knew Jacob was right. Yet somehow, my heart still ached.
