Chronicles of Forgotten Extra-Chapter 310: Poor Seles and her worries about losing her pet.
Meanwhile, somewhere within the audience seats, Seles frowned.
"Tsk... he has grown stronger."
But she immediately shook her head.
It doesn’t matter.
Once I am done with my job here, no matter how strong he becomes, I will make sure he experiences hell.
The thought was cold and absolute.
Her gaze then shifted, landing on a particular boy walking toward one of the platforms as his battle was just about to begin and through the glass window of the VIP seats, her crimson eyes met his violet ones.
It was Lucien.
If only I could’ve achieved my goal without killing you... it would’ve been better.
How am I supposed to find such an easy pet again?
A quiet sigh escaped her thoughts.
Sigh...
She looked at Lucien’s hopeful eyes, filled with innocence and expectation, and for just a fleeting moment... something almost like regret flickered within her.
Just then, a soft voice echoed inside her mind.
"Is your plan ready yet, Ms. Seles?"
Seles turned on instinct.
Sitting a short distance behind her was a man wearing a plain white mask, casually waving at her with a childish kind of cheerfulness.
Her eyes narrowed as the man stood up and walked through the small VIP section before casually taking the empty seat beside her. There weren’t many VIPs present and those who were there sat far apart, completely unconcerned with each other’s presence.
Seles felt irritation rise within her.
She didn’t look at him anymore and whispered with a straight face, her voice cold and sharp.
"What are you doing here?"
She had no intention of being seen talking to this clown in public.
"Ahh, to be ignored by a beauty such as you truly breaks my heart, Ms. Seles." He muttered mischievously and then, without warning, his tone sharpened. "Should I maybe kill everyone near us... so you could talk to me more freely?"
Seles looked at him immediately.
Her eyes narrowed, trying to read him, unable to tell whether that was meant as a joke... or a genuine suggestion and for a brief second, the air between them felt suffocating then the man suddenly laughed, his eyes softening.
"Hahaha, just kidding, just kidding. I would definitely not try to do that... you see, I don’t like blood."
He added but somehow... that only made him feel even more unsettling.
"Why are you here?" She asked coldly, her gaze returning to the arena where Lucien’s battle had just begun.
"Didn’t you ask for proof, Ms. Seles?" He replied in a low voice. "You were the one who doubted whether those things were even possible..."
He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice even more. "You even demanded to meet the Master before agreeing to our plan."
A faint chuckle escaped him.
"And congratulations... the Master has agreed to meet you today."
Seles’ eyes widened for a brief moment before she masked her reaction.
So it was real.
She had demanded this. No matter how tempting their offer had been, she couldn’t afford blind trust. She needed certainty, absolute certainty, that the reward they promised was feasible... and that they wouldn’t discard her the moment she became inconvenient.
She wasn’t about to kill the Prince of the Celestrian Empire only to be abandoned afterward and hunted down by every powerhouse in existence.
That wasn’t a gamble, that was suicide and Seles never played games she couldn’t win.
"When and where?" She asked immediately as the man’s smile widened.
"Right now. Follow me."
Seles frowned. She hadn’t made any preparations and he wanted her to walk into some unknown place with him just like that?
What if they were planning to kill her?
What if this was all a setup to silently erase her?
Countless dark possibilities rushed through her mind and as if reading her thoughts, he spoke again, his tone almost amused.
"Don’t worry, Ms. Seles. If my master or I wanted to kill you or do something unpleasant, we wouldn’t need this much drama."
His smile grew even wider.
"You’d already be dead before you noticed anything."
A chill crawled down the spine of Seles but the man just shrugged casually without a care.
"I also won’t mind if you back out of this opportunity even now. I am sure there are countless others who would love a chance at a better start in life."
Seles fell silent for a moment then her eyes hardened with resolve.
"No." She said firmly. "I am coming."
She knew better than anyone.
There is no backing out now.
Just like the man had said, if he truly wanted to kill her, he could have done it the very first day they met and even though he claimed she could walk away... she knew that was a lie because as someone who already knew about their plan to kill Lucien she doubted they would allow her to live freely.
So she only had two choices.
Either...
Refuse to meet this so-called master and die sooner or later.
Or...
Meet him, and gain a chance at a far greater life.
The answer was obvious as she stood up slowly from her seat. Her hand moved to the teleportation pendant she always kept in her pocket, gripping it tightly like a lifeline.
While her other hand pressed a small red button she just took out from her space ring before putting it in her other pocket.
Click.
It was a tracker that sent an emergency signal of her exact location to her mother and her maternal grandfather who was an Overlord-ranked awakened if she didn’t press it again every five minutes.
And once the message reached him... he could appear at her location within seconds through teleportation.
Seles exhaled quietly.
Even if she had no real choice... She wasn’t about to walk into danger without insurance.
The masked man seemingly noticed her actions but he ignored that with a smile because they truly had no intention to put her in harm’s way.
She was an important diversion for his master’s plans afterwards.
