Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 82: Not until... I’m strong enough
Valerie waited with Owen outside the emergency ward. Max was immediately taken in for treatment under the name of Stewart and that was when she realized who Max really was. Maximus Stewart.
But that wasn’t the thought that was occupying her mind.
She was confused and still shaken by the incident. Who was it? Who was it that used her name to hurt him so badly?
"Miss Ross," Owen called and Valerie looked up.
"Yes?" Her response helped Owen confirm that she was indeed ’the’ Valerie Ross.
"You can go home now." He said, but Valerie shook her head.
"No, I won’t feel at ease if I leave, so I’ll just stay." She was firm with her words and that made it impossible to come up with an excuse to send her home.
It was already four hours since Max entered the emergency ward.
’Why is it one tragedy after another?’ Owen thought, turning his attention to the red light above the door. ’And I was yet to tell him about his mother. Why did this happen?’
The lights finally turned green as the doors opened and the doctor walked out.
"There’s a lot of broken bones in his body." The doctor reported. "Though they’re not dangerous to his life, he won’t be able to walk or use his hands for a long time, so he needs extra care till he is fully recovered."
"Thank you for your hard work, doctor." Owen said.
Valerie looked at the door. She was glad and relieved that he did not die.
"Please, go in and see him now." The doctor said, confusing them.
"What do you mean? Shouldn’t he be under the influence of anesthesia?" Owen asked but the doctor shook his head.
"That’s the strange part." He said. "Even with the anesthesia, the young master did not fall unconscious. He was half-conscious during the whole process, feeling the pain and watching the process as we took out the shattered pieces of bones from his body. It was like something was keeping him from closing his eyes so I believe it would be best to see him right away so he can finally get some rest. We’ll move him to a normal ward to recuperate."
After hearing that, Valerie immediately rushed into the emergency ward and saw the nurses washing the tools used and getting ready to move his bed to another ward.
She saw Max with so many bandages, with his arms and legs suspended.
"Va... Le... Rie." She heard her name from his slightly parted lips and approached him.
"Max, I’m sorry." She immediately apologized. "I’m sorry it had to end like this."
Max rolled his eyes toward her and slowly parted his lips to speak,
"It’s over, are you ... happy now?" He asked and she flinched. "I didn’t know... You despised me... This much."
His words hurt her but she could only purse her lips, clutching on to the hem of her skirt and holding the pain in her heart.
"I really... loved you. I still... Love you... But... I want to hate you. I want... To despise you and... Make you suffer... more than... I did." He blinked slowly. "I stayed awake... For this moment." He said. "Valerie, you have beautiful eyes." That last part came out of nowhere.
She looked at him, staring at the sad and tired look in his eyes.
"I... Will never appear in front... Of you anymore. Not until... I’m strong enough, bigger, and powerful. I will... Pay you back...then."
Valerie watched him as he finally closed his eyes, surrendering to the anesthesia.
Valerie’s eyes slowly teared up. She couldn’t believe it. She had finally broken him. This boy who had done nothing but loved her. What did he do to deserve this? Was loving a crime?
Now, he would despise her. He would hate her and never appear in front of her again. She had herself to blame. She had her fate to blame.
She got closer to him and slowly planted her lips on his.
Even if she knew she was the cause of all this, she was still greedy and wished to feel the warmth of his lips one last time before they disappeared from each other’s lives.
The nurses watched this action of hers and were deeply moved by what they heard.
They didn’t understand but it seems there was a misunderstanding somewhere. Well, it wasn’t their business.
"Miss, we have to move him now." One of the nurses said, and Valerie looked up at her with tears slowly rolling down her cheeks. Then, she smiled,
"Alright. Take care of him." She said. The nurses nodded and rolled his bed away.
Once he was gone, she broke down in tears. Crying so hard at the pain she felt and the tragedy of her life. She cried so hard that she ended up fainting.
Moments later, she woke up to find herself in a hospital bed. She found Frankie sitting next to her.
"Miss, you’re finally awake." Frankie said but Valerie remained silent. She cried. It wasn’t just tears forming in her eyes or rolling down because of the force used when throwing up, they were real tears. She cried for the first time and it was thanks to a boy.
How ironic?!
"Miss, he was transferred to another hospital." Frankie said, but Valerie stayed silent and turned to the other side.
Tears slowly rolled down from her eyes again.
This was it. They would never see each other again.
’Maximus, I see it now.’ she thought and closed her eyes. ’I love you too.’
The realization of her feelings made it even more painful to bear.
She couldn’t have a normal life, talk less of having a normal love. Now, the only boy who loved her despite her dark and indifferent attitude was pushed to the brink of death.
She clutched the sheets. She was sure Lucy and Lucas had a hand in it. They were the only ones who were capable of pulling such a stunt. They were the only ones who would feel happy from hurting her.
Her eyes glowed with hatred. She would make sure to get back at them. She wanted nothing more but to destroy the smiles on their lips.
They killed her parents, made her an orphan, pushed an innocent boy nearly to his death, and isolated her. They would pay, one day... She would do anything to make sure that happened, even if it meant destroying her own reputation.
She would be the villainess that was similar to a thorn in their flesh.
