Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 80: What are you doing here?
After finding out the reason she was an orphan, the reason she had no family of her own, and the reason she had to live like a doll, Valerie finally made her resolution.
She always had a habit of recording conversations to avoid any misunderstanding from happening in the school or if anyone wanted to act against her, she would have evidence to back her up.
And thus, she instinctively recorded her uncle’s conversation with Lucy and Victoria, thus getting the most crucial evidence to convict them of being murderers who killed her parents.
"Miss, are you alright?" Frankie asked after a moment when she was sure Valerie had calmed down and Valerie looked up.
Her bright ruby eyes looked dim.
"Yeah." She said and finally stood up. "I should get to school." She walked past Frankie.
She didn’t tell Frankie why she was like that and Frankie did not ask either. She just watched her young miss have this lifeless look on her face.
"It’s probably late." Valerie said, slowly picking up her back and her phone. She stared at the screen.
This crucial recording. She couldn’t afford to lose it.
She went to her laptop and transferred the recording to it, uploaded it to her cloud as well, backed it up in her email, and did a lot of other things. She just needed to be sure she didn’t lose it.
"Miss, we’ll miss the second bus to school." Frankie said. "And once we do, we’ll either have to wait for the lunch bus or walk all the way."
Valerie silently got up, walked towards the door, and said,
"Then let’s not take the bus today. I’m hungry."
Frankie was surprised and she looked back at the laptop.
What in the world happened that made Valerie act like that all of a sudden?
They got down and Valerie saw Lucy and Lucas having breakfast, giggling as they talked about random things only they could understand.
As much as she didn’t like them, she knew the things with them were the safest so she snatched the plate of pancakes from both of them, handing Frankie one plate and leaving them in disbelief.
"What do you think you’re doing?" Lucy flared, getting up from her seat but Valerie ignored her.
This got Lucas upset and he approached her.
"Hey, what’s your problem?" He asked and dropped his hand on Valerie’s shoulder, causing her to turn her head and glare at him, chasing him to flinch.
He immediately took his hand off, and she said,
"Never do that again. If you want to keep your hand, that is." She said and turned to Frankie. "Let’s go."
"Yes, miss."
Frankie looked at them briefly and walked along.
Lucas and Lucy watched as they left and wondered what had gotten into Valerie all of a sudden.
Then, they heard the engine of the car that was supposed to take them to school.
They immediately rushed out to see Valerie had gotten in the car.
"This bitch." But before they could get down the stairs and apprehend them, the car was already leaving the driveway.
"Ugh. What is that bitch thinking?" Lucy squealed in anger.
But then, she calmed herself and said,
"No matter, I have a fun surprise waiting for you at that shitty school of yours. You won’t be haughty for long and you’ll regret ever crossing me. Mhaha." She flipped her hair back and turned to get back inside.
The driver stopped a few blocks from the school’s entrance on Valerie’s instructions. Frankie went ahead while Valerie took her time getting to her class.
She had so much on her mind. She thought breaking up was the only thing she’d be thinking about at such a time but to think such a heavy secret would be revealed just a day after breaking someone’s heart.
Was this karma? Was the world trying to give her the same heartache she caused someone who deeply loved her?
"What nonsense am I thinking of now? I’d better get to class."
As soon as Valerie entered the class, her gaze went straight to Max’s seat but unfortunately, he wasn’t there. She assumed he didn’t come to school and shook her head.
She was here to study and not date.
All eyes were on her as she made her way to her seat at the back.
Usually, she was the first one seated, waiting for the day’s classes to commence but this time, she was walking in late.
It made people think that she was indeed human after all. There were times she could come to school late.
As soon as she sat on her chair, Brian and Lance approached her and asked,
"What are you doing here?"
Valerie slightly adjusted her glasses and looked up at them.
"Is there somewhere I’m supposed to be?" She asked and Lance said.
"With Max." She looked at him strangely and he asked further, "You sent someone to call him out, didn’t you? He just left."
Valerie was confused.
"What do you mean? I just came to school so how did I have time to call him out?" She asked and the two guys looked at each other, puzzled.
"I’m sure I heard that guy say Valerie wanted to see him." Brian muttered.
"Or maybe it was another Valerie." Lance added and looked back at a confused Valerie. "Hm, some other girl might’ve used your name to try and confess."
"Used my... Name?" Valerie was having a bad feeling about this.
She wanted to tell them that they had broken up and that she didn’t care if some other girl wanted to confess to him, but it bothered her.
Not because of the thought that some girl might be confessing to him at the moment, but that the timeframe was suspicious. And given that Lucy and Lucas probably had their eyes on him.
"Do you know where he went?" She suddenly asked, surprising them.
This was practically the most words she has said in a conversation with them.
"We can take you there." Lance said. "I’d also like to see who it was that played such a trick."
Valerie dropped her bag and followed the guys.
They got to the back of the school and to their horror, they found a group of thugs, who did not belong to their school, beating Max to a pulp.
"Hey, what do you think you’re doing?" Brian yelled and charged towards them.
"Tut, seems like it’s time to leave." One of them said and spat on the floor. "You’re the one who messed with our young lady first. From now on, don’t you dare get close to her with those flimsy feelings of yours." They said and ran out of there.
Valerie stared in horror at the image of Max’s badly beaten body. Flashes of her dead parents coming to haunt her and asking why she was the only one alive tormented her vision.
And then there was the image of a dead Madam Nazar, lying on the floor, in the pool of her own blood.
They were all dead.
He... He wasn’t dead, right? Her hands trembled and her lips quivered 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Max was half unconscious and as he saw the hazy image of his friends calling out to him, he muttered out,
"... Hate... Me."
"Hey, man, what happened here? Who were those guys?" Brian asked but Max could only mutter the words again and a terrified Valerie heard her name from his lips.
"Why does... Valerie... Hate... Me?"
The boys turned to look at Valerie whose face was filled with horror. What did that mean?
