Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 131: Ugh, if only time could move backwards
With that outburst, Stephanie ran out of there, thinking Mariam would go after her but Mariam stayed seated and let out a sigh of relief.
"I’m sure I won’t regret it." She muttered.
"Well, that ended quickly." Valerie said, returning from her table. She sat down and Max did the same. "I was sure she would make it back to the house with us but I guess she blew her chance without us helping."
Mariam looked at her with squinted eyes. So they did know something.
"Mariam is very perceptive." Max added. "She’s too smart to be fooled for that long."
"You already know your sister well." Tiana added and Max nodded.
"Yeah, I know my sister very well."
"So, you all knew something that I didn’t know?" Mariam asked and the place went silent. "I knew something was up with the way you were acting and that’s how I was able to notice Stephanie’s behavior."
"Well, it’s not like we could tell you when she was in right front of us." Max said. "And as far as your feelings were concerned, you needed to see it for yourself to believe it and not just get told by mouth."
Mariam clenched her fists. She felt terrible for some reason.
"I know it’s harsh, dear." Tiana said, placing her hand on her shoulder. "But we needed to keep quiet for your sake."
"I’m not mad about that." Mariam said. "I’m glad, actually. But the fact that Stephanie has been playing me to heighten my feelings and get me wrapped around her fingers is what maddens me. It sickens me even. How could she?"
"She probably wanted to feel superior." Max said but Valerie elbowed him and shook her head.
"Not now." She whispered.
Mariam was in a state where her feelings could suddenly spike up with anger and frustration. The best therapy was not to add fuel.
"Then, would you like to have ice cream?" Valerie suddenly suggested with a friendly smile.
"Seafood with ice cream? Where did that come from?" Mariam asked and they all laughed.
"Wait, no. I’m not asking to eat them together. Let’s get out of here. Our appetite is pretty much ruined so let’s go out and get ice cream. What do you say?"
It was up to Mariam to agree or disagree.
She sighed and stood up.
"Alright. Let’s get ice cream."
"Great." Tiana exclaimed. "I know the perfect place to..." Her eyes widened as she felt a cough coming in. She managed to hold it and turned around. "Gosh, the wind up here is stronger than I remembered." She said and coughed, a little lightly so as not to spike their suspicion.
"Are you okay?" Valerie asked and she nodded.
"Never felt better. Excuse me for a moment, let me just use the restroom." She said and made her way out of there.
"The wind is indeed strong." Valerie said. "Thank God I have your coat around me."
"Ahem."Mariam cleared her throat as if she knew something but darted her eyes away. She wouldn’t say a word about what she knew.
Tiana entered the restroom while coughing. She got to the sink and removed her hand from her mouth, revealing the blood in her hand. She coughed out more blood into the sink that it grew alarming.
It was a relief that there was no one there to see her as she did this. She didn’t know how she would handle their gaze.
After feeling so much better, she washed her mouth and then her hand and took the pill she carried with her.
"Ugh, if only time could move backward." She wished.
She returned from the restroom and started acting like nothing was wrong.
"Okay, let’s go get that ice cream." She said.
"Mom, you don’t have to be so loud about it." Mariam said, and Tiana gasped.
"Oh my. When have I ever not been loud about something?" She asked and they all laughed.
Yeah, she was always loud and lively. She had a tongue that spewed out anything that came to mind. She was free.
Stephanie, on the other hand, got home and put a call across to her uncle.
"Uncle. I’m hurt." She sobbed and her overprotective uncle gave her all ears.
"What?! How come? Who would dare hurt my princess?" He asked.
"It’s Mariam and her family." She reported.
"Uh? Mariam? I thought you had her wrapped around you like a dog. How was she able to hurt you?" He asked and Stephanie sniffed.
"Well," there was no way she would say exactly what happened. "...Her brother got married recently and his wife... That woman is so full of herself. Just because she has beautiful red eyes, she thinks she knows everything. She..."
"Wait, did you say red eyes?" Her uncle asked, seeming to be interested in this topic and Stephanie blew up.
"Ugh, even you are interested in her because of her eyes."
"Uh, no, my princess but the mention of that made me think of something. Do continue. Let me hear what this vile red-eyed witch did to you?"
"I was just concerned for Mariam since it seemed that the witch wanted to throw her and her mother out so she could have the villa to herself, but she began twisting my words against me, making Mariam hate me." She sobbed. "Mariam told me to get out, Uncle. She said she didn’t ever want to see me again. How could she do that? And her family was in support of it too."
Her uncle took a moment to respond and said,
"So, that red-eyed witch as well as Mariam and her family... They’re all in the country as we speak, right?" He asked and Stephanie nodded.
"Yes, uncle."
"Okay. This uncle will get revenge on you." He said.
"Really, uncle?" She sounded excited.
"As long as it makes you happy. I will do anything." He said.
"Thank you so much, uncle." Stephanie squealed in excitement.
"I will take care of the rest of her family, do you want me to present Mariam to you?" Her uncle asked
"I..." She gave it some thought and then nodded. "Yes. I will have her to myself. She will regret not coming to my side when I showed her so much generosity."
She giggled and cut the call.
"Mariam, I told you, you’ll definitely regret pushing me away."
"Was that Stephanie?" a lady standing next to Stephanie’s uncle asked and he nodded. "Did she bring another nuisance to you?"
"If she doesn’t bring it to her sweet loving uncle, who would she take it to?" He asked and then tapped his phone on his head. "Haha." He grinned. "And it so happens to be the same nuisance we have been trying to bring down for so many years." He looked up.
Stephanie’s uncle had blue eyes and blonde hair, just like her.
He, who was a little into his fifties, happened to be the current Chairman of Romaine, Chris Romaine. The man in the highest position of such a fearsome company.
And he...
"It seems my niece is in town." He said. "Why don’t we pay my brother’s child a visit while bearing gifts?"
The lady next to him, April, was his secretary. She understood this as him going to visit Stephanie, and nodded her head. However, she found it a bit odd that he did not refer to her as his princess this time around.
"Very well, sir. Would you like me to arrange your schedule right now, so you can fly over to where your niece is." He asked but signaled her to come closer. She did so and he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"That can wait." He said and reached for the button holding her big breast in. He yanked it and the rest of the buttons around came undone. "Let’s indulge in each other’s body heat first. And then, we can go visit my niece."
He buried his head in her breast and April, who took this as part of her job, nodded and said,
"Very well, sir. But please, do not leave any marks on my neck this time. We need to attend the board meeting soon and your wife will be present."
"Don’t tell me what to do, April." He said. "She can assume whatever she wants."
April went silent, looking down at her boss, and nodded.
"Very well, sir."
He looked up at her, took over her spectacles, and took off the rubber ring holding her hair up in a neat bun.
"Let’s not be stiff tonight, April. It’s just you and me."
Once again, she responded like it was her job,
"Very well, sir."
In this job where she has to do everything perfectly and without complaint, and she also uses her body to please her boss. She had gone through a series of humiliations as his wife found out countless times that he was having an affair with her.
She couldn’t go directly to him to complain so she took it out on April. April did not complain, nor did she push the blame on the chairman. She kept her lips sealed and took the humiliation and hits.
When she went to the office with a bruised face, Chris knew it was his wife and simply offered an ice pack to her. She took it and went about her daily activities.
You see, Chris likes his secretary more than his wife whom he married due to an arranged marriage.
April did not have any family so his wife could not find a way to harm her. And he already warned her that he didn’t want her to go near April if not the consequences would be dire.
Words didn’t need to be spoken before she knew what he meant and so, she could only silently grit her teeth while seeing the love bites her husband planted on another woman.
That was the messed up life she got herself involved in when her family sought power from the Romaines.
